Hi, Greetings From Mumbai, India. I am a Great Lover Of Port Wine as I am an Indian Catholic Christian Of Portuguese Descent from the Former Portuguese Colony of Goa On The West Coast Of India. In Goa, Port Wine is abundantly available. There are several brands of Port Wine available for sale in Goa. I have been drinking Port Wine From The Age of 10 specially for Family Lunch and Dinner over a week end. Port Wine is really awesome in more ways than one. Port is my favourite Wine along with Classic Italian Red Wine namely Chianti. I totally dig anything and everything connected with Portuguese Food an d Portuguese Culture. Douro is my Favourite Wine Producing Region in Portugal. This is an Awesome, Amazing, and Informative Video.
I have a bottle of Porto Kopke Fine Ruby that was opened 5 years ago. Only one glass poured and recorked. I opened it just before this program and it was still wonderful. I don't think ports normally last this long so I feel blessed. Now time to open an unopened bottle of Sandman that was purchased 3 years ago. Wonderful ports.
This is very interesting! At 7:55 what João Nicolau de Almeida wanted to say was that the Schist is in a vertical position, not horizontal, but this a very important factor many times overlooked. It's fascinating to see those thin roots just exploring the fissures in the schist trying to survive! At 14:17 there's a good graph to take away. Found it funny to see Port & Tonic was already being talked about 20 years ago at 15:03! Thank you for producing and sharing this :)
This is a fantastic video! It's great to get a perspective on how things were 20 years ago and understanding that while some things changed, a lot has remained the same and It's a good thing :) Thank you for this!
A point about Age Statement Tawnys 10, 20, 30, 40 - they are not a true average age of the wine inside. They are a blend of various aged wines deemed to taste like and have the characteristics of a 10 year old, or 20 year old for example.
Get two or three friends together - who you love. Share with them a bottle of fine, rare Vintage port (Like a Quinta Do Noval). Kill the bottle and mark the date, for you'll remember it all your life. You see - unlike any other wine - port has a mystical, emotional effect - not to be confused with inebriation, relaxation, digestion or slumber, although those thing might naturally occur. What you'll always remember is the bonhomie, cameraderie and bruderschaft resultant from that rare moment in time with help from that magical wine.
You say brandy is added but do not mention the quality, brand or process of adding it. Surely the adding of brandty has a marked influence on the palate. Right or wrong?
It isn't really brandy, it's called aguardiente but it's very dissimilar to drinkable brandies. As far as I am aware I think most producers of port produce their own aguardiente too.
It's more like... neutral grape spirit and it doesn't affect either the taste or smell. Most port houses get their grape spirit from Portugal and France.
I'm currently sipping on a glass of reserved port, and I'm not in favor of seeing feet, sweat and other bodily fluids mixed with my pre-wine juices. However, I do love port.
This video is so old that the presenter calls the city as Oporto... it’s been a while since the English language started calling the city by it’s real name, that’s Porto.
They can't find any workers for the harvest because all portugese people interested in harvesting are in France at this time doing harvest there. As a result both the French and the Portugese grape harvesting traditions are lost now, thanks mainly to the EU.
@@amoreazione3563 it’s not pathetic it’s right because it’s a jacked up practice... oh let’s go to someone else’s country extract their resources and exclude them from the benefits... about on par for the colonial mentality
@@michellem7290 your comment is full of ignorance. The Biritsh people didn't just "go to someone else's country" - they asked for a permission to start their commercial activities in Portugal and the Portuguese king gave it to them. They also paid expensive for that permission. And which resources are they "extracting"? we are talking about grapes that grow on vines! And the British merchants BOUGHT these goods, they certainly didn't confiscate or steal them with an army. And thanks to their commercial prowess, their businesses became successful which, in return, brought money and wealth to the region of Porto - it certainly contributed in providing poor peasants with a better income. It was and it still is a win-win situation for everyone, and the club meetings for Brits only are probably just a ritual, a simple tradition established over time. But here you are, ignorant social justice warrior, talking about colonialism and all of that nonsense. what a disgrace
So what? I didn’t see any Filipino’s at the table, but the Philippines isn’t whining about it. Why does everything have to be all about you? Why do you have to ruin everything with politics?

I work at a huge warehouse in CT we sell a lot port wines. I tried Dows or Six Grapes and I am a wine fan. It was disgusting! It's basically taste like a red wine mixed with a kick like Dubra or Majorska 100 proof.

The bloke at the end perfectly sums it up. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can touch the flavor offered by Port wine.
Maybe Madeira can, but that is just Port with extra steps!

I’ve been a port drinker for many years, it’s my preferred drink. This video has taught me so much about that excellent drink. Thank you.
Мир твоему дому уважаемый! А я только в этом году решил познакомиться с портвейном. Прикупил пару бутылок. Жду теперь холодную погоду.
This is the best Port video I've seen. Thank you.

Thank you so much for these videos with Michael Fagan! Hope to see new videos about wine with him!
Just trying my first ever bottle of Port now and I'm loving it! It's Dow's 🍷
Bravo. I love and sell port, this is a well done video, thank you.
When he was in IVP, I thought holy crap, the video should have been older than 2003! Studying fortified wines D5 and still very helpful!
Someone gifted me a Kopke 1965 and it was the best wine I’ve ever had!!!
С большим удовольствием посмотрел этот позитивный ролик! Спасибо тебе большое! Мир вашему дому уважаемые!
Thanks for sharing the series. Very informative. I do wonder, however, why the Rioja region was not explored.
I know Port by drinking and cooking with it. Good video, I know more about Port and the history
Amazing man...thanks fr making this wonderful docmentry on drinks

Very good, enjoyed that.
Great stuff! Thank you.
I would really like to help harvest/crush the grapes. What month do they do this?
september , and there is packages with hotels in the region where you can do it
The world,s best wine,!

sehr schön!!!
the wine must be afuckingmazing
Port is like an either you like it or hate it wine.
wine away😂
This goes more for fino sherry
Most people ive met who dont like oort have only drank cheap rubys and never good old stuff
@@christiaan81music Either you like it, or you're just wrong! ;)
Not really though... Port is easy because it's sweet. You may miss out on the complexity but you'd still drink it unlike say fino sherry.
Douro is very hot in summer and very cold in winter...maybe that also is important.

Brilliant
I like the music of initiate
PLEASE, HD!!!!
Can u make videos all brand of Port 🍷.
Pass the bottle port side 😉
I has a port
But can you has cheeseburger?
I developed a great love for white Ports - unfortunately they get little attention in the US and a good example can be hard to find

The EU loves killing culture and tradition so much so they've written it into their ideological teachings
That should be the Duoro (dwo-ro) not doo-ro.
Its Douro dumbass!
3rd oldest demarcated. First chianti 1713, hungary 1736 and Portugal 1756
ddouro is third oldest demarcated region after Chianti and Tokaj!! not the oldest!
...in a storm.😂
That is so dangerous the way they slice the bottle at the beginning, you're essentially drinking microscopic shards of glass.
that's so dangerous they are drinking wine, which might cause alcohol poisoning.
Chung Felix fuck off loser.
They’ve been doing it wrong for 300 years with a specialized tool, but if they just read YT comments they’d learn. /sarc
So what. I believe my wife had been putting powdered glass in my porridge for years!
a club for people with brittish decent only ?? come on guys

Dows tawny port or 30 year old ain't $8 buddy lol. I am more into red blends and Sauv blanc.
ah , you drank port not Porto , as you know port is made in new zeland , chile or even Ontario Canada
dows is porto... he said the brand. the stupid thing about porto is that it is called a wine but it is not a wine. its a liquor!!!
