I recently have been into collecting memorabilia and autographs for almost a year and have some NFL jerseys and such. My question is how do I know the overall value of my item and if the item that I have is authentic ? Because I am aware a not authentic jersey can decrease the overall value. Great video keep it up man.
Suggested topic for a future video - why are some athletes so tough about autos? Is it all about the money? Can't be, since you said they're not getting much compared to their salaries. Personalities? Curious about your take.
I'm guessing because of contracts they are under because signing in person and through the mail for free undercuts the sales of the stuff they sign for memorabilia and card companies. Everyone puts a dollar sign on their signature now and they don't want to give it away for free as a result.
@@MrDodger3222 Could be, but there's a lack of consistency for that to be completely true. You see top players like Giannis, Luka or Jokic who sign pretty regularly in-person. If companies had their way, they would be obligated not to do it.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia I see. I would think that the bigger the star, the more items there will be per signing. Since Jose Canseco is a big baseball star and does a signing like every week, he must sign at least 30,000 autos a year!!
Great video Matt! I know some athletes have different signatures for in person signings vs paid signings. Do they sign like this because their agents tell them to do so?
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia I get it since autographs will be better quality when signing on a table and the athlete tends to take signing more seriously when being paid. But I heard LeBron for example that he never gives anyone his Upper Deck signature in person.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia Certain athletes (Pujols and Randy Johnson) immediately come to mind have a Free Signature vs. a Paid signature-and they are happy to admit it.
Depends scherzer don't add his number during signings but ip he puts the right number every time altuve sig looks really bad when mlb does a signing but ip he gives a very nice graph so it really depends u have to do research
What I do personally is if the guy does not know how to sign his name, I will not collect or pay for it. It is disrespectful by the athlete. Vote with your consumer dollar

The older guys back in the day had awesome unique signatures nowadays its a scribbles
A famous baseball player autographed my baseball cap with sharpy marker, it's not perfect because he's in he's 80's , would it's fine, right?
Great insights and information!!! I been telling my son that if he ever becomes famous to sign his name nicely for collectors haha.
Teach em young
Athletes goading other athletes about crappy autographs! Give each other a hard time! That’s it!!
Do you think company’s like topps could potentially coach up the athletes? Especially younger athletes.
Absolutely. But I’m not sure how much they care what the auto looks like.
I’ve always wondered about this! Thanks for posting!
Ha. Welcome

You can check what stuff sells for online. For authentication I use JSA but you can also use PSA or Beckett.

Appreciate the idea

@@sjkorea81 But it depends on the player. Not every player has the same type of deal.
That's why I love the old school guys .. they take pride in their signature
This is why people love Griffey Jr so much , you can just tell he gives a sht about his fans by his autograph alone.
Great insights
Cheers
Since you mentioned how athletes sign a lot of items per signing, how many items does an athlete typically sign in one signing?
Depends who it is. Could be a couple hundred to close to a thousand.

I just got back my elly redemption and part of the e is missing. If I try a d grade this will that hurt the grade..
Great video Matt! I know some athletes have different signatures for in person signings vs paid signings. Do they sign like this because their agents tell them to do so?
Not necessarily. They just have more time at signings and are generally sitting down. Can give a better quality at that time.

I 100 % agree ! There are PLENTY of Pro athletes who's signature...............SUCKS !!
Haha I used to practice mine too when I played little league, signing 1991 Topps cards

Give them a fan interaction/autograph rating on Madden.. They ALL care about their Madden ratings
Ooohhh. Now that’s a legit idea.
👍
This dude loves to hear himself talk 👎🏾 just repeats a lot of the same things.
