Before I go to an event whether that's a signing where athletes/celebs will be then I'll buy something similar to what I want to get signed, so If I want a funko pop I'll buy a couple of $3 pops and test different pens, yeah you spend a bit more money but then I know what will look best and can use that and be happy with my autograph. Its best to trial and error these things rather than meeting your favourite athlete and the signature gets messed up because of the wrong pen.
I know everyone swears by deco paint pens, but I use uni paint pens all the time and they always work great for me. Their standard size I find is the perfect size and fits on most every item. Not too thick, not too thin. And if you’re needing a white paint pen, molotow white is the best white I think.

I've gotten a lot of cards signed with blue sharpie, follows the old rule for signing a letter; blue ink means it's not a xerox lol. Glossy cards, gold paint pen are pretty cool. I met Bill Clinton, told my mom to wear a blue dress and ask Bill to sign it in a White paint pen (we laughed, but we'd never actually do that.)
Thank you for your insights! I've been a professional athlete on a world level for over 40 years. I've spent hours reading and watching videos. I am astounded that no ones mentions any marker that flows over cloth surfaces. The only thing I that come close is a steel rollerball paint marker. IMO, Sharpies are the worse! What are your thoughts?
I've found that if you give someone a large tip paint pen, they sign a larger autograph compared to if you give them a Sharpie. Is there a large Sharpie out there for signing large items like a 18x24 poster or vinyl album cover? The largest non-black Sharpie I've seen are just 'Fine', which isn't that large. Thanks!

Fed up. I’ve sent items off to signings and asked for black paint pen, and if it’s done in black sharpie, I will just straight up try to sell the item most of the time. Should I use a broad Prisma white on this particular helmet?? Or white molotow? Your help and advice would really be appreciated as I really want these signatures to pop and last for a lifetime. I’m not sure silver would look good on this color..
Link below on helmet btw 🙏🏽PSA; it won’t let me add it to show you but you can look on fanatics to see it 😓 It’s that beautiful shiny teal Dolphins one.
We just don’t know about those funky colors like orange. Has more to do with sunlight and humidity if an autograph will last. I prefer broad paint pens on helmets.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia Right I agree. But I’m going to be outside in the heat and humidity, and I live in Florida. So, on the helmet would you suggest black sharpie, molotow white, or prisma black? I just don’t want them to run and smudge since I’ll be outside if that has any effect with/on paint pens?
@@YesIAMSPIDER-MAN I’m talking about long term humidity and sunlight. Not day of. White or black is fine. Any pen. Prisma works well on helmets.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia I know what you’re talking about, I’m just talking about day of. It will be far from humidity/sunlight long term; most definitely. I don’t know how the humidity and heat will affect the usage of paint pens vs the fast drying sharpie. I’ve talked to various people in this profession and received different opinions. One guy said paint pens are meant for inside usage, etc.
@@YesIAMSPIDER-MAN don’t overthink it
Hello going to a Bengals signing this week. Purchased the new white helmets the bengals will use as there alternative this year. Color advice? Silver or Orange? Having trouble finding prisma through a retailer. Any suggestions help. TIA!

I just dm’d Matt on insta the helmet. Hopefully this could clear up suggestions. Thanks!
Please HELP!!!!
Hello, What pen would you use on a silver Metal Lightsabers. The sabers are in the 400 dollar range. 1 has a shinny finish, the other has more of a flat silver. For the more glossy lightsaber I wanted to us blue because It is the Anakin Revenge of the Sith version (ROTS) lightsaber. The other I have No preference on autograph color. There is obviously limited space. Thank you very much for the info. I can also send you a link to these sabers as well.

Blue sharpie would be fine. Black I prefer paint pen on.

Matt - What kind of pen do you recommend for the NBA 12"replica championship trophies? On my order for the Rodman signing I asked for blue paint, but I want to make sure you think that is a good choice. Thanks.
Typically see black sharpie on those. Most choose to do sharpie on them. Quick to dry on the glossy trophy. But up to you. Blue paint pen or sharpie would work because you are going for a pistons theme.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia thanks Matt!
I was under the impression that any baseball would work as long as it is genuine leather and not synthetic. Is an MLB ball truly the only option in terms of material?
Anything signed that’s not an official
MLB baseball has significantly less value.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia But will the signature hold as long as the ball is real leather? Sometimes people just want an autograph for their PC.
@@brettlawlor8921 I wouldn’t get anything signed that’s not an mlb ball.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia Okay, that didn't really answer my question, but thank you.
@@brettlawlor8921 spend the extra $10. And get the real deal. Better autograph. Better value.
Color? UFC cards are worth more signed in "red." Is that the case for other sports?
Since ufc fighters don’t have team colors gold or red usually look sharp.

Just got a autograph from Malcom Brogdon. It was a chrome green mosaic card and I used a gold paint pen and it totally botched the auto. 😢 not a big fan of deco paint pens
Card needed to be prepped with baby powder since it’s a glossy surface. Molotow work well on those type of surfaces.
@@PowersSportsMemorabilia I did prep the card. The pen just completely didn’t work
@@BriansMotivation happens sometimes with paint pens. Very sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. Try molotow next time.
