The merit of the added safety justifies the use of traction control. It's just another form of a modification that racers can use to go faster.

Q: Is traction control cheating? A: no, it's called "protecting one's investment". watch a ProMod (or any car for that matter) break loose mid track after a ton of momentum's built up and take a hard turn into the wall (or into the guy he's competing against) ending up on it's roof and you'll see more clearly. you don't have to watch racing very long to see a lot of beautiful cars turn to COMPLETE TRASH over a small loss of traction.

Don't race anything you wouldn't push off a cliff

but where do you draw the line? the technology is at the point where a vision system could see the tree and react and launch the car better than any person. a computer could use traction control to make sure the car goes dead straight down the track.

In my day we did r have any of that stuff the way we logged data was we recorded the run with a cam corder and watched it in slow mo to see how the car acted and the driver had to also know by feel round about what’s wrong, we never had tractions issues with a 100% analog car it’s all about a good burnout and good slicks M/T and Hoosiers your gonna slip Goodyear and Firestone those are the tires you want, In my day the top fuel cars had 8k Hp here in the US and they hooked up with no traction control my car had almost 2k HP I ran a 14” bias ply slick I can never remember smoking the tires like they do today or shaking the tires like cars do today, and the dumbest thing I’ve seen is a wheelie control sensor, I saw a guy have one go out at the 330’ *( he was going 150-160mph already when he wheelied )* he almost flipped his car that’s how much power that sensor is pulling a ton, just run wheelie cars and proper double adjustable coil over shocks in the US they think air shocks are for racing so much racing knowledge had been lost over the years like no one runs an engine they built themselves everyone in the US runs a crate motor now day, its a crate motor world now in US drag racing it makes me sad

The top level of motorsport is the top level of motorsport. Cars are faster than ever, and the tools used to be the quickest 'in your day' were the best tools on hand at the time, not something from 40 years earlier and your fathers or grandfathers 'day'. Those same people would be using the best tools for the task at hand these days too with that same mindset. Don't let nostalgia get in the way of truth 😉
Motorsport has and always will constantly evolve, but if you don't want to evolve with it or don't have the budget too that is actually completely OK, there are classic and grass roots levels that more people are a part of than those setting world records, but there is no need to tear anyone down just because they are doing something you wouldn't, can't or won't - Taz.

soon we won't need drivers all autonomous drag racing

i mean if tesla's can drive through highways and traffic and find a parking spot and parallel park, i dont see why we can't make fully autonomous 5 second drag cars

So if you both blow the tires off and you are able to pedal the car better and win with LESS POWER than the guy next to you. Would you think your fortunate and thank your lucky stars or be typical of many American car enthusiast and scream as if you really accomplished something? I see nothing wrong with taming 1000+ hp, there is no track condition or tire you can put under a "street car" that will hook with that much power without some form of control, your right foot isn't enough.

Exactly....... They are making so much power nowadays (circa 11,000 HP), that the driver cannot react quick enough if it suddenly decides to blow the tyres off at 200MPH, so this makes me wonder what the driver actually does now ???? Seriously,,,,,,,,,,,, does one just keep it smashed to the floor when the lights go green while making minor steering corrections to keep it 'in lane' down the track ????
Has it boiled down to purly a driver reaction time race, then let the car do the rest ??? Technology has allowed cars to be so fast, that humans can't control them anymore, so you have to decide what you want, humans controlling it, OR technology????? UNFORTUNATELY, technology makes a LOT of MONEY, so that wins I'm afraid.......
Formula One went the same way. It's no longer about the driver. It's about which team has the best technology and the most money.
