Tank 500 has two versions, one with spare tire on the back door, more offroad oriented, the other is called business something, with a spare tire underneath, and bigger wheels.
It is not GWM's fault that the price is too high, it is the fault of each country's trade protection tax. The extra expensive price needs to be paid by ordinary people.
Thanks for this great look at this Tank, I'm a bit interested in this model. From what I've read they seem to be a reasonable proposition compared to the Toyota or Nissan option.
Yes, absolutely. I'd be keen to hear your opinion on Chery Jetour (overview and my thoughts on it in the next video) as it would be a very serious competition to Tank 300
Extremely indepth and informative. I'm sure there are chinese brands that have cheap build quality and reliability issues - however I'm convinced that GWM Tank 500 is not one of those - and they are truly a fair competitor to the tried and true Toyota Land Cruiser, or Nissan Prado.. Great video none the less!
Australia gets the wheel-on-door version, so that eliminates that criticism. Savage Tech Australia have already started modding their Tank 500 with a 2-inch suspension lift and bigger wheels and tyres. Plus a blacked out grill to get rid of that huge chunk of chrome.
Well done pointing out something on a very old video... I always knew that the version that eventually comes to our shores will be different. And Savage Tech are the best! 💪
That is very good documentaries about this tank 500R cuz nobody said anything like that out there 🤔 thank you so much for sharing the technical information 🙏👍👍👍
Landcruiser 300 has 2 purposes in Australia; as the rural family bus, and as a caravan tow truck. Randy is correct; it has no place in Australia until it is diesel powered. The rampant success of the diesel powered Chinese dual cabs is testimony to the right product at the right time. Are these units as good as a Hilux? Of course not! But they are good enough, cheap enough, and probably most important; readily available. 300s are not used for heavy duty offroad, except for in the mines if they can't get Troupies or Hilux, so the lightweight build of the Tank won't be an issue for most provided they don't fall apart and they get diesel power. This is a really good video for pointing out the issues of the Tank with regards to serious offroading. It just reinforces the idea that Tank has potential but not as a serious offroader. The Chinese have done well in regional Australia with their commercial vehicle fare, it will be interesting to see if they take the punt on taking on the 300, a largely rural seller. Buyers are not as rusted on to Toyota as they were so there is some opportunity but it will never sell in numbers in urban areas even with its high tech stressed petrol engine. It won't sell in rural areas because of its high tech stressed petrol engine. This is easy to fix.
Done the currency conversion and the Australian price for the car is within Elia's estimation 4 mill rubles = 66328 AUD which makes the top of the range 73k = 4.4 mill rubles . Awesome 😊.
Good video Dimitri. Maybe when appropriate point out Eliad (sorry for spelling) does sound deadening, that's what he does. Oh boy there's a lot of electronics in strange places. I'd hate to drill a mounting hole for something and drill into it. The line up of the door, even the bottom is out. Suspension he is pointing out the bump stop. Most of the travel is in the shock absorber. We cant see the inside if the middle exhaust chamber but coming in sideways may make turbulence. The rear shock mounts really low. That's getting knocked off. Depending on price. I want one. I don't do rock crawling. Dirt roads are fine to get away. GWM I'll try one out no problem :P
Hey mate, I don't (honestly) think Ilya is "deadening", but yeah in general he's quite brutal in his reviews (for other brands, e.g. European VW, etc ones too!), this is what I like about him! 🤣 I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Chery Jetour (high-level overview in my next video) and how it compares against GWM Tank...
@@ValueCarsAU I think we have our wires crossed. I meant he does sound insulation. I think thats correct from a previous video. It's why he pulls the vehicle interiors out.
thank you for the translation! in my opinion that the Tank is made to be used as city/family car with the addition to be used as off-road. Unfortunate that most of the "off-road" cars are not being designed to be one and it is not the maker fault it just the consumer want all in one and we know that most of the time does not work like that.
I guess the use-case of needing to use the SAME vehicle for both heavy off-road AND city/kids/family driving is probably not that high. So this car is more for a comfortable and borderline luxurious transportation and not serious off-road. When you seriously specialise in anything - as a professional, or as a product! - then obviously you'd have trade-offs on the other, less used side.
Thank you for your honest and surjective review ,,,, I believe your approach is professional and good to see an independent reviewer speak his mind freely in this no. Democratic era 😂
i wish he talked more about the hybrid system, how it works? is it like BYD DMO? also I wounder why manufacturers dont use Wavetrac or Quaife LSDs instead of this off road systems?! Wavetrac or Quaife LSDs are pure mechanics & it doesnt need electronics involvement! Wavetrac or Quaife LSDs can work as an auto torque balancer & an auto diff-lock at the same time at any speed
I don't think they know much about the hybrid system themselves, to be honest, as it's new to their shores and they specialise in more classic car mechanics and engineering. This still shows us a lot of the bones of how it's made, which I found most helpful.

Although I admire Tank 500, this video proves nothing. If it could continue to the top without traction, I said it's the perfect. As it has deflocks, it should come out from the sand hump.
This video shows the underbelly of a very popular vehicle that could come to Australia given the current motions from GWM. That's the only thing this video "proves".
And yet - as the latest videos show - it's more than perfectly capable for it, plus has differential locks. If a vehicle has differential locks, it is designed for off-road by definition.
