Is it possible to change the CPU from I7-4700MQ to a better processor? Is it possible to change and if possible what type of processor is it possible to switch from GTX780M to GTX980M? Please answer
Hi it sounds like the 970 MXM card you purchased might not actually have the bios for your alienware, which is something that needs to be looked at prior to purchase
@@rickstechrepairs How do I check this? I've found the gpu bios version but how do I know which versions are compatible? The card showing up in device manager isn't enough?
i've been thinking about buying an 880m to replace my 860m, i have an alienware 17 r1, its the 2014 version. will i need an unlocked BIOS for this item to work in my laptop?
In that case, I was also considering the 970m, would I need a modified / custom BIOS to get it to work? I have the standard 60hz screen, Also I am on a very tight budget so I cant really afford a heatsink, how were the temperatures with the 970m?
you can upgrade internally upto gtx 1060/1070 and nvidia quadro RTX 3000 max at the moment, RTX 3000 requires 330w psu. using a egpu you can upgrade graphics to whatever you want providing you get it working and stable.
@@bulla1100 I would sell the machine for parts and purchase a newer machine, as the 4710 and 770m are quite old these day and even a mid to low range GPU will out preform the 770
@@rickstechrepairs I have the same model R1 and want to upggrade from 860m to 980 what do you mean you did not have much luck in the end? did the gpu got an error or what happened? by the way my 860 does not work anymore so I dont know if I should buy a more recent Gtx model or just get the same Gtx 860 what do you think?
i have same laptop but my 860m not recognized .. i guess i need to replug it again .. thanks u made me know how to reach to GPU
No worries at all

not cost effective to do
£60 for 4940xm cpu and the highest you can put into it.
I have a 17 r3. Which graphics card upgrade would be good for mine?
No idea sorry
AW17R3 is all BGA - soldered, nothing can be upgraded except screen/memory/hdds.
Did you ever get this to work correctly?
nope
About to attempt this in my Alienware 17 2014. Should I expect any problems or is it pretty plug and play?
It would all depend if you get a compatible replacement GPU to install
for the 970, you will need to modify the nvidia driver, google howto: its a simple 2min job.
Hello, I've tried to upgrade my alienware 17 770 to 970 but it gives me 8 beeps after installing the 970. Is there something else I need to do?

Being that GPU is so old it's hard to recommend for you to you to spend money on a new GPU

I have a 17r2 what's the most up to date card I can get
BGA - you cannot but R2 models can be fitted with the alienware graphics adapter if you have it, you can install ANY graphics card in it.

Alienware 17 (2014)-i7-4700MQ/GTX 765M could be upgraded to 980m ?
no idea
max upgrade you can do is 4940mx cpu, 1060/1070 or RTX 3000 gpu and 32gig memory.
I have a Alienware 17 w/ 16gb ram. GTX 765M. intel core i7. what would you recommend if i wanted to upgrade the gpu? is it doable?
970m, but a laptop that old I couldn't recommend to spend money on it for a replacement GPU especially if it's new mxm card prices
@@rickstechrepairs yeah. its just that all my specs are still good for newer games coming out and its just the gpu holding me back
Please let me know if i can change the graphic card of my model that is alienware 17 with gtx860m i7 4710hq 16gb ram
Check ur motherboard model number then find what's compactible, like gpu and cpu.

Hi in my alienware 17 r1 is possible install de video card gtx 980m?
Not sure on that one, would depend on the BIOS on the 980m
Is it possible with an Alienware 17: GTX 770M, i7-4710MQ, 16GB Ram ?
That model would be the same upgrade procedure.
But I wouldn't go down this path, as even second hand mxm GPUs aren't cost effective
