This is THE BEST AW17 disassembly video online! I have an old AW17 R4 that I used throughout my university years until it started to constantly throttle itself due to heat issues. I really need to get it running again since I'm going home for a couple months and getting a brand new one is out of question at the moment. I was able to repaste components and unclog the dirty heatsink thanks to your instructions. I was baffled by the idea of taking off the entire motherboard to disconnect the fan unit, but thankfully there is no need to.

I followed each one of your steps, and I completed the maintenance on my R4 without much problem. Nice video. Nice teacher

What I have learned from this video, is that I need to pay someone to replace the keyboard for me. Great video though!

Just wanted to thank you for posting the video, my 17 R4 had been reaching close to 200 degrees when playing games and was well over 100 when idling. Now seeing mid 90's - dropped to 89 on CPU GPU and low 80's on the mainboard. Going to repaste in a day and see whether or not I can get lower temperatures. Threw in the towel with getting Wi-Fi - couldn't get the cables connected and left it for the time being - was getting cross eyed!

Is it still holding! , or you have to change the paste every now and then ? .
I used throttle stop to undervolt the cpu, went from 95 to 81 without renewing the thermal paste

Thanks for the awesome walkthrough - I think I would have lost my mind trying to figure that out without it. After a lot of cursing of Dell, several unscrewings of things I'd screwed up again, and one cut finger (I didn't know a blood sacrifice was required) my machine has sprung back into life. Never, ever changing the battery again though - I'll just dropkick it down the garden next time.

Thank you for uploading excellent video. Thanks to this explanation, i can probably disassemble my Alienware 17. However, I'm not confident of complete assembly again my myself.

    • @strumpeteer
      @strumpeteer Год назад

It's okay not to feel confident because there are over 30 screws to put back in their exact location and they are not all the same size. Then there are ribbon cables that must be reattached and seated correctly or you're gonna have problems. Keep in mind that the two connectors for the wifi card may not snap in so easily like in the video.

    SUBSCRIBED!
Dude I owe you so much! You're like a Sherpa that just guided me to the scary peak (re-paste) and back down to safety (all parts reassembled and computer running cold as ice).
Before and after FurMark benchmark scores (GPU stress test) after pasting Kryonaut Thermal Grizzly:
    1) I gained an average of 7 FPS
    2) WHILE RUNNING 10°c COOLER!!!!!
CPU temps were roughly 12°c cooler during Intel Burn Test
. Average idle temps dropped from 55°c to 41°c
    Which means
    a) I no longer throttle during sustained peak performance &
    b) my laptop runs a lot quieter

After I changed the battery a screen came up saying that my 330 watt adapter cannot be recognised. Is that because I messed something up during disassembly or because of a problem with the charger itself?

Blue light on my AW 15 R4's lid are not glowing as bright as they used to... Rest of the colors are fine but colors in which blue is needed are not good, for example purple looks red, cyan looks green, the dimmed blue light problem has only occurred in the Alienware logo at the front of the lid and the alien head on the back of the lid. Also I came across multiple people who are facing same issue, why is Alienware so unprofessional? Buying an Alienware is a total wastage of money.

Also if I do repaste do I need to replace thermal pads too?
