This was my first gaming laptop. I love this thing. Brought it with a 765m gpu and upgraded to a 980m down the line. It was a great system until I started getting random restarts and couldn't figure out how to fix.
@@Swoop. my 2014 alienware 14 inch ? only work if I press the F1 key when booting up its the battery!!? not a big deal I dont think? for my machine only use it for dawn of wars and Age of Empire games ?
I love this machine. I ran mine with a 4930mx and a 1070, both using aftermarket heatsinks to keep cool. This laptop is a great machine for those who want to start/learn how to modify laptops.
You have the best laptop restoration videos on RUclips period. The dedication, hardwork, patience and passion in your work shows without a doubt and I never ever regret subscribing. Keep up the fine work, you are an inspiration to me. I like that final reveal btw!
I have an alienware 18 from 2013. Still use it everyday. Playing Path of the righteous today! Play For Honor every day. I think it's been on every day since I got it; that's thousands and thousands of days!! Still works flawlessly.
Thanks for the online community of Alienware, back in 2015 there was almost no info on the machine, nowdays there are so much stuff that came out and fixes for the machine, it gives me hope to revive my alienware.
We are now in 2024, though I have other Laptop and a Desktop (gaming one), I'm working right now on a AW 17 R2 (2015) a little different. I love this laptop, it was my first and basically unique gaming laptop (expensive for me in those years), I upgraded it to almost 8.5 TB since it has 4 ssd extra slots, and with the AW Graphics Amplifier (modded in one side of the case so it can fit) can run a 3080. Anyway, what you have done is a SUPERB job, so clean, so smooth, I mean, you tuned it up as a brand new one. Lot of RESPECT for your job!!! And the video edit at the end is like you were promoting AW restoring program (haha), really impresive. Congratulations!!!

Great piece of work. Watching you restore old laptops is such a joy. Keep up the good work. By the way I still have my first laptop which is a Toshiba satellite M45 from 2005 with single core Pentium M still in all original condition. Still works great. Haven’t had a single problem except for the battery.
Hi Andrew I am also restoring my Alienware 17 from 2014. I had replaced the power cord, changed the operating system 4 times, and a few other things before I realized the hard drive was bad. A guy I was dating kindly replaced the hard drive, but snuck off with the SSD. LOL I finally got frustrated and bought a new SSD. I could not get the BIOS to recognize the switched boot order. I tried a few different ways. A friend told me to just remove the old hard drive and force the SSD to boot first which was a great idea because I had already mirrored my hard drive on the SSD so it was ready to go. Super stoked. As you know I'm running Windows 10 because there's some rather stupid reasons that she can't run 11. At some point I downloaded a bunch of drivers as well as the Alienware "Command Center." The customized lights on the machine look amazing. It was worth looking up the software. The machine stutters even on a brand new SSD. Do you know what I have overlooked? Thanks! *If anyone asks I'll tell the funny story of how I got it. :)
just beautiful 😍 I told you before my favorite model line ?. now you make me want the 2014 alienware 18 from Ebay now!!?....YOU ARE SO VERY SKILLED ? SO MOTIVATING?
An awesome video. I really want to restore my 2013 UK model with much lower specs (765m, fewer gigs of RAM). It gave me a lot of unexpected problems down the years but is my favourite laptop ever. It has a 'permanent battery failure' message now (that I expected as the battery/charging was playing up for years) and it also just turns off when connected to the mains after 2-3 hours. So I would guess there might also be a motherboard issue (?). I turned it on yesterday and before it shut down after a few hours (after Startup Repair had finished) the BIOS diagnostics said there was an excessive heat issue. I have no doubt the insides need a HUGE clean, and likely a repair to the thermal paste/heat sinks. I don't know whether to start trying to take it apart and fix it all up with a new battery and other parts (I am only a beginner!), or recover all the data from the very old HDD by removing it (there is a lot of priceless family photos etc on there). It's a Windows 7 machine (and I have the discs), which I love, but swapping out the HDD for an SDD means a new install of the OS along with everything else :/
The B rolls INSANE!!! Just 2 questions in my mind 1. What do you do after restoration do you sell it? 2. What all parameters to check before buying a used laptop according to you.
i have one of these and I love it, i put lots of money to it and upgraded everything, got a i7 4940mx, gtx 980m and 32gb ram and i love it, nice video btw.
7:50 it's not a problem because your not using that gpu the pc uses the intel hd graphics when on dextop just to save some battery, once you enter a game the laptop is more likely to crash
I had this exact model a few years back - Unfortunately got rid of it due to performance issues but I think nowadays I could've fixed them with a bit of care and restoration
I still have this laptop (it’s my first too) and I added some ram and storage. I still use this for gaming. I just plug it into a monitor and a keyboard & mouse and it works great.

Hi Andrew i love your videos…they are so satisfying and relaxing… you do as if no pressure at all and love your calm voice with some funny comments…. Just curious which country are you from?
Nice restoration! I'll watch the other video as well to see some more details. Also, the only other thing I would have done was added 2TB mechanical disk in the 3rd slot, to have Disk C (512GB MSATA), Disk D (1TB 2.5), Disk E (2TB 2.5 HDD - as there was an empty HDD slot), and Disk F (CD/DVD drive).
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew with having 3 storage drives available already, no need to remove CD ROM drive, especially if 3rd drive is 1TB or larger (preferably 2TB mechanical or 1TB+SSD). I don't go for super large SSDs because they cost too much.

I bought this Christmas 2013 for college. Loved it at first, but so many negatives. Fans were always on MAX speed if I was on Chrome, heavy as fuck, no good battery life, nor was it as good as my 2010 desktop. It was good while it lasted, but I ended up just bringing my desktop to my dorm. But it was cool you could have 2 hard drive bays + a blu ray drive

These models are weird about problems, but not too hard to repair
Same, however mine can’t work without being plugged in now. Think it’s a motherboard issue unfortunately
