If the screen is glossy you can put liquid in it as long as it doesn't go inside trough the bezels... only the matte layers get ruined by liquid, but I actually used liquid to remove the crap matte layer of my laptop and the screen looks miles better in terms of visual quality.
no kidding -_- I had a newer lenovo y700 gaming laptop before and I was bummed about only upgradable ram and drives. I think all laptop creators should make all laptop upgradable again but all the exact same socket for gpu's. plug n play type of stuff.
@@harveybrooks1460 well i guess they make it like that so the company will have more profit, when you want to upgrade your CPU or GPU you need to buy a new laptop.
We live in a world where consumer electronics is tossed in favour of the new shiny one every year around Black Friday and Christmas, spurred on by RUclipsrs who always talk about the shiny new thing when one comes out. Content like yours where you not only reuse but actually repair devices considered lost causes and make them usable again is damn refreshing.
A little bit of a tip Andrew, when it comes to the fans and hinges, avoid brushing towards the moving parts as they are lubricated and if you get dust in there it could affect some of the movement. Something I learned when working on a few repairs. Also, IPA can also be used on the board if there's any liquid damage, it can help really easy some times, even just for cleaning dirt. Just wanna make sure to tell in case but if you do, don't get IPA in the fans or hinges as it ruins the lubrication. Anyways nice video as always, showing people that this is really fun and easy. :)
This was such a satisfying video to watch. This has quickly become one of my favorite tech channels. Thank you for putting these videos together! It's inspiring me to perhaps get an old laptop and mod it myself!
When is saw the notification i literally went : YESS YESS NEW VIDOE For some reason i really like these restore/upgrade/modification videos such as yours. Keep the amazing videos comin' bro!
This was the first gaming laptop I owned, got mine in 2011. Ever since getting this one, I have only been gaming on gaming laptops. I game in the bedroom, the home office, the kitchen, the living room, even in the backyard in the summer. I cannot imagine myself going to the same room, the same desk every time to game as I am not a streamer. Gaming laptops are awesome and this restoration was very well done. Thank you.
This was my first gaming laptop.. purchased shortly after released. Absolutely loved it! Gamed all through my college years and took this behemoth to classes 😅
It is so satisfying for me to watch restoration, repair and nodding this kind of laptops because these videos remind me of the time when laptops where upgradable, not like now when pretty much all the components are soldered to the mb and probably, with the arm Macs, the ram, cpu and gpu coming all in one chip.
I love the attention to detail with which you cleaned ALL the components. The expertise and precision is also awesome! The Asus G73 was my first and really fast gaming laptop back then! I was the king at LAN parties with that thing! It makes me feel nostalgic! Sub for sure!
Mais um excelente vídeo Andrew. Fico feliz demais quando vejo notificação nova do seu canal. Extremamente satisfatório ver um laptop ser restaurado. Saudações do Brasil.
AWESOME! I used this laptop as my video editing workstation and gaming from 2011 to 2016 so this is very nostalgic. I remember the nightmare of upgrading the ram, having to get at the inaccessible dimms... I also cracked the screen and had to go through that whole disassembly. Even had an adapter to swap the DVD rom for an extra SSD. For better of for worse, They don't make 'em like this anymore. Great Job!
Same. I had G750JZ and it cost me almost same price in repairs what I had payed for it (1500€). I broke keyboard ribbon, my power socket died and had to replace it, replaced the hdd/ssd ribbons, replaced optical drive for hdd bay, replaced the power plug again, replaced the motherboard, replaced the gpu, replaced whole cooling copper section, replaced the fans, still have 2 at home haha, replace whole keyboard chassy (since the ribbon cable ripped I had no choice but to buy whole chassy as it was a single unit), replaced the battery. It served me well and gave me many insights in how laptops are build and work. It was also one of the last laptops to actually have dedicated GPUs like 880m 980m that were made for laptops and not down binned desktop variants like we have today max q variants and so on.
@Gaming York yea, windows update, but most of latest programs still work on windows 7 like browser(you can still use latest chrome)unlike xp ur stuck with firefox 52
I love how much time & effort you spent to restore an old dying laptop... Even gave it a new life with mods & upgrades... Kudos & keep at it... Restoration means less E-waste... & most of the devices out there are still capable to serve, just need the special touch & care... Thanks you... PS - New laptop should bring back the removable CPU/GPU... Imagine laptop gamers can upgrade the portable rig like a desktop... That is the best possible direction the mobile side should lean towards... Cheers! 🍻💯
That was a great upgrade and restoration video :) Loved how you got it from pretty much useless to a high spec gaming machine :) Not many laptops out there with four RAM slots, upgradable CPU and upgradable GPU :) P.S. I knew why you were going for the i7-2670QM - so you could have 32GB RAM - and that's what I'd have done also :).
The backlight with different key colors got you a new subscriber! I’ve never seen that before, just only one color from someone else. This is a great restoration. I’m impressed
I seriously cannot believe I never thought of the keyboard mod! Bravo dude. Will be doing this on my original g75vx with unlocked bios and overclocked 670mx.
