Hi love your channel, I think being lucky is a very small % of breeding. It comes down to the love of the hobby, studying the species and sitting there watching there behaver in wild and tanks. Trying different tank setups and putting in alot of time learning from your success and your mistakes. I been breeding fish for 50 years I have made alot of mistakes and still learning something new all the time. I would never call myself a master breeder, I think people who call them self one it's for ego. It's the fish that do the breeding, you just help them along in keeping right conditions by studying up on them. So I would call myself a lover of them, Pluss I do it for relaxation and the challenge of getting them to breed.
No disrespect malik, but dont talk about discus if you dont have the experience in high ph. My tap water here in WA comes out at about 8.2ph and settles down to about 7.6ph with a gh of 3 and kh of 0-1. Ive had severals spawns now with 0 issues. What i have learned is that certain discus strains require different parameters
At the Moment i am keeping some L333 and L236 just to make sure i have some experience before i will get a group of Zebras. My L333 and L236 are just juvenile like 6-7cm and 4 cm...
Great video. Local to you with 20 adult L046 trying to get things set up correctly for breeding. Great video. I would love to know your conditions. After Covid settles would love to visit. In Burlington myself.
Hi Brent yes totally! once covid is over lets definitely connect mate! i think our water should be quite similar if not identical my temp is 28C right now usally goes up a bit to about 29/30 aside from that I use a lot of oak leaves (about 15 or soo in a 35 gallon tank) which drops my ph to about 6.4/6.5 over several weeks.. that's the only thing I do to trigger
@@leerowe122 yes Indian almond leaves have more acid/tannins .. oak a bit less .. for my own water almond leaves are too acidic. So depends on ur own water
Idk how I missed this one…. My goal is to get up to 100 zebras in my collection before I start selling them. I bought 8 and have spawned 16 so I’m up to 24. Patience is key here! :)
Making a cold water change simulates a fall rain storm which triggers the 046s to begin spawning. A lot of the studies ive read regarding when these fish spawn are during the fall and winter which makes sense when it comes to making a cold water change. I dont attribute this to being lucky it is more info obtained by trial and error to see what works and what doesnt. If it works and you can reproduce results on a consistent basis its not luck. Im no expert and im always learning. Thanks to a lot of youtube videos, articles and direct info from successful breeders among other sources many of us have had a fasttrack to becoming successful. I disagree that you need to have at least 5 years of keeping "beginner" fish, i think it all depends on how serious you are and how much youve learned and put into practice. Youre basically telling people dont even try to breed or even keep these fish until youve had beginner fish for 5-10 years. While i do think the casual fish keeper doesnt have the necessary knowledge to breed or even know how to keep their water with specific parameters that doesnt encompass the majority of folks who have taken the time to learn what it takes to become successful. Different breeders who breed 046 on a large scale all say different things which also tells me these fish are able to adapt to different conditions. Youre saying 6.7-6.9ph, while some fairly famous German breeders say 6.8-7.1ph. A friend of mine breeds these fish at 7.2-7.5ph and has clutches of eggs regularly using only tap water. So i dont take anything as gospel from any of you guys but instead i try and take something from all of you as data. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting the videos!
This is rather embarrassing but my super reds have never bred 🤣🤣🤣 2m 1f in my 55 community discus tank. Haha maybe is should look into that! All my fish tanks are more carnivorous and warm... 🧐
Your head and body should be seen fully. Sit slighty left or right. Goldencut. Your Body 1/3 of the view. 1 Aquarium 2/3 of the view. greets from germany ;)

Thank you for your complete honesty. I agree 100% about these self proclaimed master breeders.
My pleasure
The luck is getting a pair to pair off, the skill is in raising the fry, at least that's what I think! I think you have both! Continued good luck!
Good things need luck. Skill is creating the scenario for good things to happen.
Well spoken🙏
@@jeffpietkiewicz5908 thanks!
A lot of skill and knowledge needed. Just like you!
I don't think it is luck at all. Hard work and experience will make it happen.
@@barb1906 luck is getting males and females and good genetic background. Because no one knows about that and no amount of skill can make that happen.
You got the skills to pay the bills ✌🏼
Thanks for the information
My pleasure
Thanks Malik!!
Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!
thanks Gerry! Cheers!!!

i could live your life. good job bro
It comes down to water and food. No luck but skill and knowledge. You take the time to learn what the fish needs.
Absolutely
Do you find that snails will affect your waters hardness?
yes they do :)
Hi Malik how old is your zebras your breeders . Thanks for the awesome tips and videos
hi Keil, the biggesr ones are 3.5 years or soo some slightly younger
