      @@AquaMalik hi Malik! It's amazing so many breeders, all doing it differently! How do u get tds to 180? Is ur water soft? Ur the 1st to say a ph of 7-7.5! All other info is a ph of 6.2-7.2! I've mine in a quiet room, but I sat and watched! Only 5mins they came out for food! Great to watch them! Your setup has a great look!

    Very good video with lots of good info. I bought 10 1"-1.25" L46 Zebras for $1000 three years ago, put them in a low profile 60g frag tank.At 84° half RO/half TAP. Luckily i didn't lose any. Thought they would never spawn, but then BOOM I've had about 10-12 spawnings in the last 3 months. About 1 a week. Each females can lay eggs about every 2 week with a different male.Currently have about 60 fry that I've moved to a 33 long growout and about 20 more that are to small to move yet. They breed super easy all on their own and I just move the fry when I'm sure I won't crush them. I do bare bottom so the fry don't get buried by sand. If you have the money and the patience to wait 3 years its well worth the wait. Just recommend getting the largest group you can. If you have to wait 3 years you don't want to get to the end of the rainbow and not have enough to guarantee you will have a viable group of males and females. If you're successful please make sure to sell large growout groups for a discount or give them to qualified experienced fishkeepers. I currently have about 8 fish club members wanting groups and most dont have the money for them, but its whats best for the species. Its not all about the money.

    Thanks Malik! I’m thinking of adding sand to my L046 tank, now I’m definitely doing it! I also got a group of 5 x 2.5 inch discus that I had to put in with them. The zebras are really fattening up since doing this! Of course I feed small amounts 5X a day as a result. Also 90% wc every 2 days... the zebras seem to love it

    Whats a good place to buy 40 gallon breeders from online? Most of the ones I see are $180 barebones over here in Alberta. I am just thinking that is way over priced for a fish tank of that size. Thanks.

  • @channel-lf2um
    @channel-lf2um 4 года назад +3

    I'm Korean so english not well
    It is a good video But there are more reasons why zebra pleco doesn't breed, besides what's in your video.
    1 It is better to grow in pairs or trios.
    2 It is good to grow in a single tank (without other fish species)
    3 Do not go to the tank frequently
    I grow in pairs in a single tank(without other fish)and spawn every 30-35 days (almost every month)

      How do you pair them? This is the problem; they are very difficult to sex that it's difficult to split them into pairs like Cichlids which are easy to sex.

    Hello if you could have should I use air pump or circulation water pump ? Or both ? Thank you so much

    • @AquaMalik
      @AquaMalik  3 года назад +2

      a strong air pump is sufficient for the fish, but water current from a water pump like a power head is good to simulate a natural river current ! cheers!

    Hey Malik, May I know what Corydoras you keep with your zebras? And how warm is your water?

    • @AquaMalik
      @AquaMalik  4 года назад +2

      Hey Yi, I keep cw049 currently with my zebras and its 82.5F to 83F .. its not ideal for most corydoras so I suggest picking a species that can handle the temp long term! you can also try panda corydoras and sterbi Ive seen both in zebra tanks! whatever you choose just quarantine really well in a separate tank and only add when you are satisfied that the corydoras are completely disease free! cheers!

    I noticed my tank without L46 has millions of trumpet snails! But after a few mths of owning L46 the tank there in I was left with only large trumpet snails! I didn't feed them one ngt, and I noticed one that was going at something! It was a snail!!!!! So I sived alot of snails from my bristlenose tank and put them in L46 tank! I now have tiny babies in there and the zebra definitely eat them! So now I feed the snails!!!!! Local shop has 2 tiny zebra in quarantine, but I only want female! How can I tell which is which?

    • @AquaMalik
      @AquaMalik  3 года назад +1

      its literally impossible except by behavior .. also sometimes you can tell the males at about 1.5' or larger will have classic male characteristics but its still an educated guess! I ll try to cover these in the upcoming videos!

    • @AquaMalik
      @AquaMalik  3 года назад +1

      I think a bigger footprint is always better - 20 long should work but as the fish mature into breeding age u might have to upgrade to something a bit larger 🙏

      @@AquaMalik I'm really disabled and been house bound for over 10 years. During my life I've been a qualified Stone Mason that was scuppered by my health. 20 years ago I got my 1st class degree but no one will hire as I would be a fire hazard because I would depend on someone to get me out! Now knocking on 60. So I very much doubt it, don't get me wrong I would a proven pair they would give me a reason to get up everyday. But I love to watch other breeder's succeed and see how it's done professionally. I can always dream eh LOL. I've been looking at the many Black & White varieties but they float my boat as Zebras do.
