What you have there is Smith v Cumming which states, "The First Amendment protects the right to gather information about what public officials do on public property." Presumably, if she is the town hall clerk, she's a keeper of public records and that makes her a public official.

Yeah this don't have anything to do with this 😢 Mesa Police Department pulled my friend over for not stopping all the way at a stop sign the cop got his information and gave him his ticket handed back all his information and then the cop said I want to search your vehicle and he said no the cop said I smell marijuana but my friend doesn't do marijuana so he told the cop the stop is over with start it up his car and started driving he was pulled out of his car at gunpoint by this cop and now the cop is in real big trouble he is suing for as much as he can get because the cop violated is right what's the traffic stop was over he had a right to drive away but not according to this police officer he's been fired and facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon false arrest just thought I'd let you know😂

It is a myth that law enforcement can look up a private citizens name, address, phone number anytime they want, especially if they have no reason to even enter the database and then use it to intimidate or harass citizens and that is exactly what that officer did on camera and in front of his supervision. I would be willing to bet that the Department policy and the officers own words and actions would be enough of get at least a letter of reprimand inserted into his permanent record that would cost him vacation days, promotions and possibly result in termination of employment if its a pattern of abuse of power. When coupled with other policy violations in his record it could even rise to criminality resulting in an officers conviction without any involvement in court by the citizen. This best illustrates the need to report problem officers. Remember, it’s not the fact that the department can and most likely will investigate and find no wrong doing, it’s the facts and pattern that eventually emerges that really matters.
