Keep in mind that this one is a spin-off in an entirely different genre (turn based 4X) and shares very little with the Spellforce series (RTS/RPG hybrid).
I was initially sceptical because it is a departure from the "traditional" Spellforce game formula, which i liked a lot. But now that i have played 20+ hours, i am 100% sold. Great game and well worth the price.
42 hours in, it's fantastic. Big SpellForce fan and this is a wonderful take on the series. The map is absolutely enormous and the combat is really tight - you can also make some ridiculously powerful stacks as you continue to play. The only real issue is some QOL stuff which the devs are working on, like lodge raid spamming by the AI.
Hmm, I may have to try this. I usually suck at dedicated RTS games, as much as they interest me, but this blend of RPG and RTS might be more up my alley-and the price is right!
O damn. Did not expect you to check out this game. Would definitely recommend to check out the other Spellforce games as they are more a mix of RTS and RPG.
I agree with everything you said in the video. SpellForce: Conquest of Eo is a fun little game. And although I haven't finished it by now, I will win against every enemy on the entire map. But, I have to admit, the map is that big, you probably won't visit all places on it before finishing the game.
Spellforce is one of my favorite series. I always liked RPGs and strategy game, and Spellforce provides a nice blend of both. The games also have a decent storyline, notably the first game. The RTS element can be frustrating until you get the hang of it (Spellforce 3 in particular). In all the games you can mostly ignore the RTS if you want and use your heroes to take out the opposing forces, although I prefer to mix it up. Although many people say that Spellforce 1 was the best, and Spellforce 3 the worst, I don't really agree. They all have something good about them. I'm glad to see they are branching out more into RPG/TRPG elements, because the RPG side is more of a strength than the RTS side, but many people don't play this series because they do not like the hybrid approach. Personally, I think the epic battles make the RPG elements better.
I've flirted with the modern Spellforce games over time. I think because of the RTS segments I have commitment issues, but I really like what they're doing and I wish I could actually master these games. Oh, looks like this one is VERY different from the rest of the Spellforce games. I'll definitely need to check this out.
I really like your reviews! It was on sale a few days ago and I was interested in this game but couldn't be sure, since there wasn't any sightfull review or video about it. So, thanks for this video. I will buy it on the next sale i think.
Just bought this game and played it for a couple hours last night and so far I'm very impressed. I'm a huge fan of strategy games and I love being able to roleplay as a mage. There're tons of different spells to try out. Can't wait to see what all this title has to offer.
Back when they gave cd/dvd with gaming magazines (i.e. ages ago) I have played demo of Spellforce 2. It looked quite interesting, but never got the full game. Over the years the series was always on brink of my radar, but in the end I have never got into it. But from what I remember, they added indeed lot of different new systems
Didn’t expect you to check this one out. I remember recommending spellforce 3 on the vid of genres you avoid but thought this entry might turn you away
Been thinking about picking this up while I'm waiting for the release of Age of Wonders 4. It clearly takes a lot from the Age of Wonders series, at least in the RPG and combat gameplay.
Conquest of Eo is actually HoMM+Disciples in a Spellforce setting that is hiding behind a 4x entourage As a huge fan of all of the above and while absolutely hating the 4x genre, i binge played like 200 hours of this game without breaks So do not be tricked by the first impression, this game is a freaking ton of fun, is fast-paced, the gameplay loop is addictive, there are a lot of QOL features already which makes the game really enjoyable, and there's hundreds of cool and unexpected interactions on the map. OH, OH and the unit variety IS MASSIVE. As a necromancer you get 21+ different undead, and that's only ONE faction. Combine that with all the different perks each unit can get and you easily have hundreds of variations. Huge shoutout to the devs, i am still astounded by the quality and deepness. Hope there's more content coming
Cool concept, but I think I prefer the gameplay of Spellforce 3, which is the RTS / RPG method. It's too bad they never really market these games. I don't think I knew this game came out until someone randomly posted a video of it the other day.
Game looks very interesting... Wish listed and will probably pick up at some point. Would be great if you could come back and do full review. Iam especially interested about how deep are encounters.
Having fixed maps instead of randomly generated will probably hurt the replayability for this kind of game. But it's releasing just after Master of magic remake and before Age of wonders 4 that will probably hurt their sales unfortunately
I had my eyes on this game for a while and was not sure if I should get it or not. It reminds me of Master of Magic but its guess more focused on RPG than strategy from what I notice so far. Hey, Mortismal, I'd love to know your opinion on a game called "The Council". Its not a cRPG, its a narration and choice focused detective game that delves into the occult and conspiracies based on real history mixed with fiction. It plays a bit like telltale games. I'm not sure if its your forte but the game has interesting characters and an atmosphere that keeps you doubtful of the character cast all the time. I also recommed you check a 4x RPG survival called Thea 2
I've tried to get into Spellforce 3 (Soul Harvest & Reforced)... It just never clicks with me. The graphics look awesome and then it just never seems to work when I play... who knows, maybe I'll give this one a shot too 😁 Thanks brother!
Just got the game (in Bundle form, with the latest expansion) after seeing that the new content generated random maps for extra replayability. Enjoying it so far, but I was torn between getting this and the expansion for Diablo IV, which are close in price here! I'm a bigger fan of TRPG's than ARPG's, so I hope I made the right choice and it continues to be fun.
Have been playing this for the past couple days, a pretty strong game. Starting a run out seems really difficult, but after a while you get way stronger than the ai opponents.
This one looks interesting. And it's fairly priced for sure. But I am not certain whether I should get into this if the release of Age of Wonders 4 is just around the corner. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Judging by this video its pretty obvious the game is heavily inspired by HOMM (Heroes of might and magic) and some of Civilization. All I needed to know is how this game stacks up against them.
Basically this is Age of Wonders 3 set in a Spellforce world. and it does rival Age of Wonders in terms of quality, the only things I think AoW does 100% better is that your avatar in AoW is an actual unit that you can gear up and use directly in combat. Unit diversity is better in Spellforce : CoE than AoW in some ways.
I'm not much of a 4x strategy gamer, the Civilization series is not for me..but really enjoyed HoMM and AoW SM. So bought it yesterday after seeing this video, and played way too late last night. Thanks for the heads up on this Mortim! I hope you do do a full review on this, I think it's worth it.
I own all the main series installments. Confusing lore dump but fun relaxing games. I'm not quite into picking this one up because I'm a bit sick of HoMM type of games but I do recommend the main series though not perfect, they're good for anyone who loves old school RTS/RPG hybrids.
Damn, I don't want to buy another game right now!!! lol game looks great. Would like to see a few more choices of wizards but I will happy with a Necromancer.
I am 15 Hours in and i have fun with it, but i need some Pauses in between here and there. And i am not sure if i am playing it right haha. But yes, the Auto Battle needs an Overwork. I would also wish for Diplomacy :D
I loved, absolutely loved the previous titles (even though some controls were a bit clunky and the newer games redcone a lot of lore), but this one is such a HUGE leap away from the previous titles is just felt somehow wrong :/
Spellforce 1 and 2 is a cult classic spellforce 3 however is bad lore wise and not canon to orginal lore but this game is very lore accurate which makes this game canon to orginal games
Hey! Slightly unrelated but do you plan on grabbing AoW 4 next month? I'd love to see your thoughts on that title, following this one. Love your work, as always! The exponential growth you've experienced lately is well deserved. 💜
It looks kinda TOO similar to last AoW, tbh (with few grains of Endless Legend) . I really love first Spell Force game and would love to see some take on that RPG+RTS, but I don't get any Spell Force vibe from this one 🤔
Really enjoying this - it's a really good entry level game of it's kind, but more experienced gamers will undoubtedly enjoy it. @mortismal, have you played Last Epoch recently??
@@MortismalGaming I really think it's worth a look. It's a in a very good state right now. It's a good entry level option for that genre. Maybe a video of entry level games & explanation of PC game types that are not really what console gaming is about is a good shout given the amount of players switching over. I switched from 35 years of console gaming 3 years ago and what got me the most excited was all these relatively new genres/genres which are more suited to PC & it was difficult to find no nonsense info on such things. I'd recommend Last Epoch, Spellforce EO & Gears Tactics as good entry points in their respective genres. Wastelands 3 has been my favourite game since I got my PC but I'm glad I played Gears Tactics first to get a grip on turn based combat.
I like that type of game. I´m playing AoW Planetfall right now. I was playing Conquest of EO but the game runs terrible. Settings on low and 720p and the game didn´t want to run smoothly. Maybe with some patch in a year i can jump in again.
When a new game comes out obviously people look at you to see when you 100% it and watch the video. Does “racing” other RUclipsrs to not only beat but 100% it give you any less enjoyment of it?
I'm not in a race to do anything, I do this at my own pace. Nice thing about the 100% is that no one is expecting me to have it done right away. I play games the way I enjoy them, which plays into my own content strategy as that is what I built it around.
Congrats on the free copy. Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
Love this game. It's the perfect mix of Master of Magic, Age of Wonders, and Fallen Enchantress/Sorcerer King.
Someone gets it!
Same for me, can't stop playing it. :D
Age of Wonders 3 tactical combat has 3 actions and retaliations like this.
It seems pretty similar to the old spellforce games, but the older ones were more story driven.
I love the Spellforce series. Not an AAA series, but really charming and relaxing.High replay-ability and tons of characters to try.
Keep in mind that this one is a spin-off in an entirely different genre (turn based 4X) and shares very little with the Spellforce series (RTS/RPG hybrid).
This game looks a lot like Age of Wonders clone with Spellforce lore added in . Still I will probably check it out .
I jus saw the trailer I was watching it on PS5 and said the same thing idk if I should buy it or just turn on Age of Wonders lol
it plays a LOT different than AoW. And tbh these are all just like HOMM-likes
I hope there are longer videos in the future. I like going to sleep to your one hour videos. It’s super chill.
I've been playing this since launch and enjoying it a lot.
Really enjoy the Spellforce series. I was hoping you would cover this in some capacity, thanks Mort!
Really been enjoying this. It's deeper than I expected and having the right tools for defeating specific enemies is really important.
I was initially sceptical because it is a departure from the "traditional" Spellforce game formula, which i liked a lot.
But now that i have played 20+ hours, i am 100% sold.
Great game and well worth the price.
Thanks for covering this

I would give this game a dedicated prize for the UI - it is GREAT
Spellforce 3 (the expansions are also great of course) might be worth a look for this channel for it's unique blend of RPG and RTS.
i agree and after the spellforce 3 reforced update it's a lot better
I agree! Good story and fun to play, I’d say underrated
Great stuff! We love to see more 4X-like games showcased!
This looks like an interesting title. Thank you for the preview, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if you hadn't released this.
I just bought this but having started yet. Another great video Mort
Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks Mort!
Didn't expect to see you playing this one!
This is actually the third time i've watched one of your reviews. I think I owe you a sub. Now i'll know what games to play.
Hmm, I may have to try this. I usually suck at dedicated RTS games, as much as they interest me, but this blend of RPG and RTS might be more up my alley-and the price is right!
This looks like exactly the type of game I would enjoy. Thanks for putting it on my radar. I'll probably buy it this week.

Loved the spellforce series, doing the whole 3 campaign now in coop. This is 100% a worthy title to add to its linage.
Really cool. I'm going to check it out after some updates. I always wanted to try spellforce games.

Pretty much yes, the economy and spell crafting is slightly different but it is mostly a AoW clone.
It's not. There's no expansion. You only ever have one mage's tower. And you don't choose a race or use mage spells in combat, just unit spells.
I hope youll take a look at first games of the series. I honestly prefer the way first two games worked but might chech this one out some time
