Never get too close to a bear, especially if it is a mother and babies. Give bears the right of way if they are on your trail or driveway. Move away from a bear slowly.
    Hike and travel in groups.
Identify yourself by talking calmly so the bear knows you are a human and not a prey animal. Remain still; stand your ground but slowly wave your arms.
Help the bear recognize you as a human. It may come closer or stand on its hind legs to get a better look or smell. A standing bear is usually curious, not threatening.
Stay calm and remember that most bears do not want to attack you; they usually just want to be left alone.
Pick up small children immediately. Do not make any loud noises or screams.
Put your arms up and appear big if they approach you.
DO NOT allow the bear access to your food.
Have fun in the out of doors, and stay safe.

Haven't seen a bear around our house yet this year, just what they've gotten into. Love seeing all your wildlife. Teddy's on alert. Good dog.

Its been a big bear year so far. I had a momma with two cubs sleeping right next to me in my wilderness camp. Woke up and they were only a few feet away. They had been hanging around all day. Not at all aggressive I think they were just going through their usual feeding ranges. I still feel safer around bears than people.

So beautiful to watch. Here in Africa, we also see impala and kudu from our lounge when they come to drink water. Absolutely wonderful, AG, thanks for sharing ❤❤

I had a black bear cub chase me for about a half mile once. When you see a bear cub alone most likely a momma bear is close by and will attack you if you are near one or more of their cubs.

Teddy sure is a tough guy! Earlier this year a bear came onto our porch and stole a bird feeder, and my aunt had one in her mud room checking out the dog food she stores there.

@@AlaskaGranny Aunt Kit wasn’t too thrilled either! We installed a new steel door and a sturdier lock for her, that should help keep the bears on the right side of the door!

I lived on the front range in Colorado in the 1980s my three chows which were afraid of nothing would allow a mountain lion to use their food bowl on a frequent basis, they would go to the front of the house and wait until the critter got his breakfast at the rear porch and then he would swish it’s tail and go back up the mountain behind the house. There was a mutual respect towards each other. But seriously AG bears treat dogs as a convenient snack if given the chance, never ever allow your small animals to be outside it’s a incident waiting to happen.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I always have my dog on a leash to protect, not only him, but me if he were to chase something down the trail that chased him back.

I think you need to leave your dog at home.
