    the fact that you managed to get that behemoth installed inverted without surround damage from that steel is amazing

    Takes a brave man to cut out the spare wheel well 👍 nice set up Steve how I would love to do that to my Orion but I just can’t bring myself to cut even a hole in my bloody dash 🤦‍♂️🤣 looks like the scalextric is staying well for now 🤔🤣 nice video again Peter top man 👍👍👍

    A 2nd sub and you'd get 3k out of the amp and yes I am joking. It was a huge undertaking getting one of those monsters in that car already. Fantastic video Thanks Peter and vehicle owner.

    Looks good. Was expecting a bit more longer video :) You needed to tap holes in the plate to screw down the subwoofer and use loctite to stop getting them undone. I bet it will look really nice once the steel plate will get coated 😊

    The first time I saw this done was @ HAT's headquarters in GA. I didn't understand why until I sat in the Chevy HHR and heard all of the sound coming from the center of the windshield. What shocked me about the car also was with a well tuned car, I could actually hear Willie Nelson's voice getting further away from the microphone. SQ can be amazing, but outrageously expensive for a setup like this!

    I have similar IB24 in my F150 ....below 25hz is just insane ... easily plays 10hz .. I do use a higher xover 70 @ 12db slope so the kickdrums will tear your head off ...yes I like metal and industrial techno LOUD LOUD

    Since it's been 2yrs already, was curious if he dropped out the HS-24 & went w/ SI's IB-24. The IB-24 has 9mm less 1way excursion, about 16.5in^2 more pistonic area, & is about 35lbs lighter. I'm guessing you'd probably sacrifice a few hz of low end extension due to higher Qts, but your suspension would be happier in a small vehicle like the VW Golf.

    Beautiful as all your work is. Question for you guys. If I wanted to do IB in my small Cargo van, could I build a 3/4” wooden baffle from oak or birch plywood, right behind the driver.passenger seat. To isolate the cab of van from cargo area? If I use a 12” sub which direction does cone need to face? Inside front carb or face back into cargo area?
    It would be the same as a trunk mounted enclosure really except more air space in my van...

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 года назад

      Bill Curry direction doesn’t matter sound wise, but I suspect you want something a bit more rigid than just a single 3/4”, otherwise the baffle will flex as hell on that surface area!

    I'm certain that you have considered this, but will the heat from the exhaust cause any problems? Or is it further away than what it looks like in the video?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 года назад +2

      MrSmotheredHope exhaust can radiate heat, but when the car is moving you have absolutely no issue with it. Now the sub is on the top of the spare wheel well, so a good 8” away from the bottom and his previous sub was installed at the bottom before, which worked fine too.

  • @bingoberra18
    @bingoberra18 3 года назад +1

    Nice but I would definately wrap the exhaust, and a shield ontop to keep exhaust heat from the driver. Cant imagine the glue, rubber etc would like the heat very much.

    • @pssound9749

      bingoberra18 it’s not the first install for the owner like this. The previous 18” was 8” closer to it and it was mint even after a year!

    A question for you Peter,
    Thinking about IB through the spare tyre well, but how do you come over the yearly vehicle inspection?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  2 года назад +1

      Hi,
      Here in UK we have no issue with it. My clients in Denmark are also fine, but i know that Germany is very strict.
      Where do u live?
      One thing you could do is to keep the piece that you cut out and when the MOT comes, just put it back with lots of deadening over it. Cover the whole spare wheel well on the outside, so it looks like that it was done on purpose to make the car quieter or whatnot. 😃
      Then once the test is done, just take it back out. 💪🤘🔊🔊

    • @JosesBWK
      @JosesBWK 2 года назад +1

      @@pssound9749 That's a fair justification, but i don't think it would work in Spain. Here the yearly vehicle inspection is a real PITA. I'm almost certain they wouldn't let me pass without paying an engineer project (€€€) and modding the car's data sheet. Cutting the metal sheet of a car is really uncommon here and people would think I'm insane. Maybe rightly so. But hey, no degree of freedom or creativity here, ffs. And yearly soldering the sheet back to its place, sanding it, body filler and painting it leaves me infinitely baffled (pun intended)..
      thanks Peter, you're number 1 in my list. Keep it up King

      @@pssound9749 Well this is actually a little concern I have with my IB sub, that I havent installed yet (too busy with work unfortunately)...
      I bought the Dayton Ultimax 15" which has a fs of 19 hz and a Qts of 0.47 if I remember correctly.
      Soo it could work with IB... however I find it has a pretty stiff suspension.
      So I think its SQ isnt that great, although it may go low, SQ definition and so is probably hifi in stead of high end. Right?

    I have zero experience with open and infinite baffle, I guessing infinite baffle is a car trunk thing open is just a baffle in a house...? But mainly Im baffled(pun intended) why you would want a sub mounted like that of firing of the front waves outside the car...? Seems you would just be sending alot of the sound/pressure just into the outside, yeah guess your front loading the cone off the ground I guesssss? I dunno I'm totally lost about this configuration.🤔 I'd really think it would get you a noise violation ticket even faster!

    Should just thread that steel plate, instead of having to weld on the nuts. Love this build!!! But then im a vw audi nut.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 года назад +1

      I think he had his own reasons for that. One is probably that these sub is around 50kg/110lbs and not that simple to line it up, but having bolts pushed through, nuts on and welded, this way it is 100% that the alignment of bolts is spot on for the next time it has to come out and go back. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      This 24” was awesome! I didn’t want to believe how such a high moving mass driver can have so quiet mechanical movement and stay so musical! I still prefer my AE drivers in same type of application, but this 24” is just a monster that ticks many many boxes.
      I would love to try & test many more lines from them, but shipping from US to UK is not cheap. You’re not lucky in that respect either!
