Don't know any truth to this but .. Tyrone fortunately CeraVe IS formulated with several different ceramides in higher concentrations and in combination with cholesterol plus several fatty acids and other helpful ingredients like hyaluronic acid. I’m an RN who has been using this for years now. I have eczema and seriously damaged barrier function. CeraVe is a wonderful product.
Tyrone in spite of your inference I’m not associated with CeraVe at all. I AM however a retired Registered Nurse who has struggled with eczema and allergic reactive skin all my life. I pay attention to ingredients for obvious reasons. I also have some knowledge of basic chemistry. Reading the ingredient list on my CeraVe lotion, cream and PM lotion is all that was necessary to refute the misinformation you repeated above. While formulation is very important, implying that a particular brand is not using those standards when they obviously are (reading the ingredient list which is easily available online) is neither honest or helpful. Not everything on Reddit or a “PSA” that’s found on the web is accurate. Some of that is put out by competing brands who are poised to take advantage of an ignorant consumer demand in response to that type of carefully crafted publicity. Ignorance is not bliss. Nor is spreading deliberate misinformation.

Dr Sam, the are so many comments that speculate a trend where many skincare products with ceramides are actually too low to be effective. *Is this a fact?* Another question that I've read repeated herein is a concern of possibly having the wrong type of ceramides in skin care products being used. *Should the consumer question the type of ceramides when considering a product?* _Lastly, are you at liberty to share:_ *What % of ceramides are in your moisturizer, what % is the bioavailability of those ceramides & how does that impact its efficacy?*
My question exactly. Are we putting on ceramides that we are not lacking and therefore overloading on certain ceramides and what does that mean for our skin
...So ceramides are good for a compromised skin barrier (which comes with age as well as some skin conditions) AND we're also told that exfoliation is good for older skin as it encourages skin turnover.. SO....does this mean that exfoliation with, say, an AHA does NOT compromise the skin barrier? Or does it? Just trying to get a handle on how these two kinds of products work together. Thanks, by the way from bringing out a moisturiser with ceramides.. I discovered several years ago that my skin LOVES them. I can almost feel my skin smiling when I smooth ceramides, cholesterols etc over it.
From what I know exfoliation is good because it removes dead skin cells n encourages cell turnover, but it does compromise the skin barrier when you do it daily. That's why you shouldn't exfoliate too often (you also don't have dead skin cells to remove every day, they build up over time). Sometimes (say once or twice a week) should be fine, but you also should follow it up with smth nourishing for your skin like a moisturizer (with ceramides possibly) and then you have an ideal combination for healthy skin.
C. O I have been prescribed a 10% glycolic acid ointment for my acne scars to use daily. Should I not do this? The moisturiser my dermatologist gave me does not contain ceramides.
@@dokidoki719 well I would definitely follow a dermatologists advice in most cases, so I would use it. Also from what I know glycolic acid at 10% can be fine for daily use, really depends on the product. I'm fairly confident one that was prescribed to you is fine. If it does end up being too harsh/drying etc, you can always try to space it out more (maybe twice a week or smth?) in a few months when your acne scars hopefully look better as well. As for a moisturizer, it doesn't have to have ceramides (most products with them contain them at such low percentages that they're unlikely to be effective anyway), but it does have to work for your skin. If your skin feels dry despite using a moisturizer try switching to a dif one, if not just keep using it imo
Hi, Dr Sam does it mean that both of your moisturizers contains niacinamide and ceramides? Also could you make a video on peptides? I would love to have your take on it? Thanks!
Nice Video..I have tried Momsco Ceramide products and they are really amazing. These products keeps the skin hydrated and locks the moisture therefore enhancing the skin elasticity.

@ 01:46 "I think it is counterintuitive that lack of hydration is actually an important part of what causes acne." This doesn't sound counterintuitive to me at all. It makes perfect sense (in my mind at least) that lack of hydration & dehydration would deprive the body of proper enzymatic activity due to lack of mineral usability and, or presence (inherent in loss of hydration) as well as the absence of water "inside" the cells that are a part of balancing the two oceans that support homeostasis (among other things). Did I misunderstand? Or was that a observation of the general populations understanding (counterintuitive)?
There's been lots of news about oestrogenic effects of chemical sunscreens and how people using these creams had higher blood serum levels. Is this true and a reason to be concerned? Are there any ingredients to avoid please?
Dr Sam I have heard from Other derms that using oil on skin signals cells to stop making hydration and causes dullness and large pores. Is there any validity in this?
Given my love of CeraVe products I'm excited to learn more!
