Brilliant. Well done. Exactly what a DIY video should be. Nothing more. Nothing less. Effective demonstration, good dose of humor, a little humility, great pace. Perfect. Thank you.
Thanks man. I appreciate the kind words. I know folks watching a how-to video are usually busy and trying to get something done so I try not to their waste time. Good luck with your project!
After watching 4 related videos and being disappointed I found this one. Perfect, concise and very well made. Thank you very much it's exactly what I needed.
Thank you!!! Super helpful. Screen repair guy wants to charge $145 to replace one screen. Now we can do it ourselves. You have a talent for creating expert, detailed, and entertaining videos 👍👍👍
If this suggestion wasn't already mentioned, when possible, remove the old screen first and use it as a template, placing it over the new screen. Then cut around the old screen with a straight edge and adding 1 to 2" width. This saves time, especially when dealing with angled or odd cuts. Great video! I just Amazon ordered the clips which should come in very handy,
This is what I do, and I keep the one side attached to the roll to keep everything straight as I go. But I think I’m definitely going to check out those clips next time.
Thank you for not playing head banging, ear popping noise and not telling your life story like other peoples' videos. Yours is concise and to the point. Thank you!
The only video I could find showing these clamps. I bought them just because of this video. Hope they will help me re-screen on my own. Wish the part he showed on clamping had zoomed in closer and held it for a little longer but I think I got the "how to" and will give them a try. Thumbs up.
This video was a HUGE help, thank you! Finally a D.I.Y. home repair video that's to the point & acknowledges that most or us are doing these tasks solo.
Thanks for a very informative video. Out of all the videos on how to install/fix screens yours is by far the best. Now I don’t have to pay somebody hundreds of dollars to replace the screens around my pool.
Just what I was looking for! Great video, clear and understandable instructions and tips. Thank you. Love the shot of the dog wearing the drinking hat.
Thanks! I’ve replaced my screens for years and you have me some new tips especially the screen clips on Amazon. What a find! You kept this DIY easy and relaxed. Thanks
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The clips are sanity savers! They made the job so easy. No need for vile swearing or fits of rage. Wow! What a difference.
You can also just use the old spline in separate pieces in place of those clips, they pop off too easily anyway.Leave slack at your starting point of spline so you can pull it out if necessary, nothing wrong with pulling it out and re-splining it to pull that last section nice and tight. Another great tip is to place your screen with the bended ends outward from the frame (it will be curved from being rolled up-crescent in, not out) this will help ensure a tight fit.
I appreciate the info. Headed to Lowes tomorrow. I knew there was a tool to help install the spline. That made my day Last time I used a screw driver and it took forever. Thanks a lot!
My husband and I greatly appreciated the video!! We were able to work together to put up our replacement screen with few "bumps" along the way. Thank you for the humorous and informative video.
Thank you for the perfect explication of how to do this. You have removed all the speculation of how to install flat spline. Those clips are a cool idea too. Thanks so much!
I've watched several videos now on how to replace the screen in my storm door and yours was the most helpful. Love your sense of humor too. :-) Thank you!
You are a godsend! I've been looking through all screen porch installing looking for these clips. I was not able to find it til your video. I just didn't know what it was called. Thank you so much!!!
Nice! Yeah I get a little faster each time. The cats like to climb up the screen when they’re hunting something so I get plenty of practice doing this repair lol
Great video and great tips! My wife and I tackled our entire screened in patio this weekend. Without your tips and tricks I don’t know how we could have done it. The clips were a great suggestion and it is so much easier when you pre-roll the screen. I will recommend your video to anyone and everyone needing to replace some screens.
Great video and thanks for the tips and information on the materials and tools! Just to give you all an idea, my lanai is a typical 10' x 15' and has six panels totaling 225 sq ft of screened area. The local contractors here in Northeast Florida want $2.50 per sq ft, almost $600 to replace the screen mesh. Not bashing them, but I think I'll do it myself and save at least $400 in the process. Just returned from HD and bought the screen mesh, spline, and roller for $135 and I will order the clip from Amazon for another $12. I am pretty handy and pretty sure I can handle this job. Conquering my laziness is another story. Great instructional video and cute doggie you got there.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to produce this very useful video - Enjoyed your sense of humor and added graphics! I have done screens in the past and it's AWESOME to learn about those clips!!! I only have a couple small windows to do now - BUT next screen door I need to do I'll be using those clips and getting it done lots faster!!! :-) Thanks again!
Yeah the clips take a lot of the stress out of the experience. Coincidentally our cats tore another hole so I’ll be doing this repair AGAIN this weekend. It never freakin ends man. Anyhow, thanks for the kind words. Hope your repairs go smoothly. All the best.
@@thefiXfiles Done! I had to wait a couple days for the screen clips to come in from Amazon, can't BELIEVE neither my Home Depot or Lowes carries those in-store! Those, along with your pointers about using the tool to pre-set the screen in the groove made it an easy do-it-myself fix! Honestly, the ONLY difference I can tell from the panel next to the one I repaired myself, which my (now former) Screen Guy did, is his brand of spline does have a nicer sheen than the Home Depot spline I used. I posted before-and-after pics of the repair on my FB page, and I linked your video in my post. Again, much thanks!
Had to fix ANOTHER panel today, and I was having trouble getting the spline to set properly. I'm getting on in years (almost 60 yrs old), and don't have the hand or arm strength I used to have in my younger days. Came up with the idea to get a spray bottle filled with just water, and just "mist" sprayed the channel, spline, and screen before working the spline in, and I found it much easier, the water worked as a lubricant to get the spline to squeeze/roll into place properly. Worked for me. Hope this tip can help others
Thanks so much for sharing. I was in Home Depot this morning looking at 20 different types of screen. All kinds of spline ...and tools ...and walked out. Lol. Figured I would go to RUclips and do some research. When I bought my house, I was so excited about the lanai until now when I have to replace the bottom ...almost 40 ft around...ugh.
Awesome video! Thanks so much for the tips. I'm about to attempt this for the first time myself and am little nervous, however this is the best instructional video so for.
Cool, bro. Great, easy flow to the video and great tip on those clips! Gotta get one of those beer hats for my dog too. I also see you are a cerveza aficionado. Beer time is sacred and we don't need too many interruptions!
Used your video to replace patio screens. Works great! Suggest one more tip - I stretched the spline before pushing spline into channel. Much easier after it is stretched. Also, my patio had flat spline on top of opening, and round spline around the remaining screen on the same opening. Also, inserted the edge of flat spline into the bottom of the groove by hand, about a 5-inch section, and used the wheel to pressure the top of spline and it seems to pop right into the channel. Thanks for your video, I worked alone, and the screen clips saved the day! Thanks!!!

Great video, unfortunately I saw this after I replaced 2 large pool screen panels. I had to use the round spline because the flat spline was too hard to install but after watching your video, the trick was seating it in the groove side first. Thanks for the video.
Well done. I thought your video was the best that I've seen. I will now take your install and organization tips to my pool screen project. One concern: Some videos say start at one corner and work the entire perimeter in same direction. Others say to minimize wrinkles do the top first, then do the bottom, then left/right. Comments?
Great info that I will use. We just had a hurricane blow several of them out and rip them . I see that I need to use the flat rubber instead of the round ones that I used the last time. Our porch looks a lot like yours. Thanks
Great video! Thank you for uploading it. Although I ended up ripping an edge with the tool when I was almost done. I just stopped crying long enough to leave this comment.

Both my wife and I loved the professional nature of this video and ESPECIALLY not blaming the perps!
