I’m encouraged to see a woman doing this project because I will most likely be doing most of the work. You did a great job making the video and creating a lovely screened in porch!❤❤❤
I watched this video several times before embarking on the project myself. It was super easy to follow and the screened in porch turned out beautiful! My wife and I truly enjoy sitting in our patio now without having to deal with mosquitoes. Thank you Sonya. You did a wonderful job!
@@lizmeehanneighbors1203 I'm not sure how the area you want to screen in ties into your house, but see if trusses are an option. Makes the framing process much easier for a novice
I have tips, now that I am 3/4 done screening in my porch. #1. When you cut your screen, give yourself an extra 2” more than the dimensions of the opening, on every side. #2. If you have a Kreg tool, it really helps with the wood framing. #3. I read the reviews of the Screen Tight spline roller tool, so I bought a wooden roller tool with a metal wheel, and I am glad I did. #4. Do horizontal top, then horizontal bottom, then the sides. Always start at the middle and work your way out to one side, then do the other side. Same goes with the vertical sides. When you’re done the top, pull it kind of tight, straight down as you work your way out. Pull the screen fabric diagonally down from the middle toward the sides as you roll the spline in. Go slowly, and pull the spline straight, stretching as you roll. That helps keep the wheel from slipping and cutting the screen. #5. There are two tracks for screen and spline, use the one distal to the actual place you are putting in the screen and spline to kind of tack it up in place for you, so you don’t have it flopping around. It makes it so you don’t need a helper. It’s really helpful if you’re on a ladder, maybe standing at a weird angle. Before I figured out the spline trick, I used a heavy duty staple gun to temporarily tack the screen in place, but you have to keep stopping and pulling the staples out with the staple-pulling tool. The spline trick is a million times easier. Starting at the top horizontal track ABOVE the track you’re really going to use, jam a little scrap piece of spline in the middle, then with more scraps here in there, work your way out toward the edges. If you already used that track for the screen above it, no problem, just use the vertical tracks to hold it in place with some scraps of spline.
I was just thinking I’m going to have to screen my porch in myself if I want it to get done. So I searched and found you creating this lovely screened in patio, very similar to what’ve envisioned. God bless you for creating this video!
Great video. I searched forever to find a good video on screening in a porch. Most are useless. Yours is well done and to the point. Very useful!! Thanks!
Thank you. I have an older screened in porch that just used wood strips to nail down the screen. With this system I can replace individual sections and I hope it is as easy as you make it look, and thanks again for the tips.
@@chainsawmack the screen may work for you I need something that opens and closes like a door not the magnetic. I am looking at Lowes they have a 5 panel for 85 plus 10 for the mounting hardware.
Thank you so much for this video..especially seeing a lady taking care of business!!! We've been given ridiculous quotes to screen in our existing covered patio. This is the video I've been looking for, and the finished porch screens look really sturdy. My fear was that we'd try to do something like this and it wouldn't last because it was flimsy. Would you do a video to show how you framed for the screen door. Oh yeah, I instantly subscribed. Thanks again. 🤸♂️🎆🖐
I'm sharing this vid. The only part I wish was elaborated on was installing the screen door to the outside and allowing for the door from the house to the patio.
Should not bang boards with a hammer to put them in place. Place a wood block over board or use a rubber mallet. Otherwise you’ll end up with hammer marks on your nice painted board
So good to hear correct terminology used. “aka drill in concrete vice “cement”. toenail, awesome. (have had vey little luck with tap on so far, like my “22 cal ram setter “fire in the hole “. thankfully, i’m just dealing with old PTL Great vid. i’m really debating on using this system. think in long run will save me money vice prep and paint.
I have a covered patio that needs a new roof and I would love to be able to do this myself - after watching this video, I think I can! I had a contractor give me a quote of over $6,000 to screen it in and put a new clear panel roof on. Made me sick.
Very nice video One Thing Once I had those boards painted and everything I would have used a another board to tap them into place sure then hit them direct with a hammer also would have talked up where they met with caulking and then maybe put one more quick coat of paint over once they were installed to hide your screws also hopefully they don't have any raccoons on the outside or cats on the inside because that vinyl screen is just about as fragile as you could possibly get I would have used the black coated galvanized metal screen it's a little more difficult to work with but it is a lot stronger
Great advice. I have four cats. Someone else told me reinforced screen would be better. However, when getting a quote today the contractor told me regular wire since the galvanized is harder to handle. Now what do I do? Also, I am using a chair rail, but I didn't hear her specify how many inches she used when meassuring for it. I want to make sure it isn't too high or too low. If someone can tell me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks~

you honestly believe she didn't have help?
I'm going to do it while my husband is at work one day. He keeps saying he will do it. We have lived here since 2013 and now 2021
:D
Ask him if he’s alright from getting run over by that bus you just threw him under.
Did you do it?

This has to be one of the best diy videos on screening in a porch I've seen. You really explained everything very well. Thank you!
I have built a dozen or so screened porches using this screen tight product. Easy install, reasonable price, clean look and customers love it.

Awesome job she is badass. I rarely see women Who know how to do anything other than makeup so this is a refreshing video.
AND she had her makeup on point! LOL. I noticed that first! This lady's ON IT! :P
This was awesome. I think I can tackle it by myself as well. I will start with painting my wood first.

How’d it go?
I have good hope that I can do this...thanks for making it look simple 😊

Have watched this several times to keep inspired while I collect ($) the thiings I need to do this project.
This is fantastic. Thank you so much for this tutorial. We want to convert a carport into an outdoor patio space. This is the perfect idea.
I must find out where to get an “impulse” nailer. I have always hated how all of my nailers are logical and think things through first. 😂
Hilarious! Nice to see some wit about these things... :) Bravo!
Awesome illustration of DIY patio Screen
Very informative on each part and good camera work on focusing on the areas you were working on to show!
Thank you! My wife and I will start this project!

Amazing video. Almost giving me confidence to do myself, only thing missing is how the door is done
I think she just purchased it, installing it should be very simple, however you can find lots of tutorials on the internet as well
