Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3299/
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 8500 → 30000
- Beast Eye → Dragon Eye
- Retaliate → Avenge
- God's Curse now deals mid-heavy almighty damage and inflicts Curse/Nerve ailments only
This is a rarity. Since Samael offers nothing but avoidable XP to LL routes I usually skip him, but I decided to showcase him this time. As with Futomimi I used 0 XP cheats although I didn't end up saving after anyway since this is a waste of good Luster Candies. Now I have Wu Kong with Debilitate I can set up max buffs in a single round (well, as long as I micromanage the team's agility correctly, more on that later) and go to town with a combo of focussed physicals and Mjolnir shocks for extra crits. This is the best way of dealing damage to neutral affinity targets in hardtype and you'll be seeing it plenty more for the rest of the run.
As for Samael himself, he's not too bad. I think this fight can catch people out because it really sucks if you're not prepared, but all you need is a fast Prayerbot, some fire immunity, and a way to quickly undo those annoying Rakukaja stacks that he follows up God's Curse with (he seems to perform this script every 2-3 rounds). Dekaja + Taunt is the best way to do this, and a phys resist magatama means Demi can easily tank his counters even if he's at +2 attack... not that he'll counter at all if you shock him. With a little advance planning I was able to get all of this using demons I'd already made, which is always satisfying. He will occasionally strip all buffs with Dekaja & Dekunda at low health, but we can easily reapply them so this is a non-issue.

@@horshorson8198 Oh, well unlike other bosses he is completely skippable both for Masakados and TDE, the only reason to fight him is if you want the neutral ending.

Kind of off topic. I'm doing my first hard TDE run in vanilla, and I noticed something. Does null phys prevent counter skills from working? My Arahabaki had counter, but I never saw it activate even once, so I got rid of it.
Yep. It always used to throw me off how Wu Kong and Rangda learn Avenge, despite having no use for it.

Nope, they were just never that useful until now. They've been nerfed pretty hard (rightly so) but White Rider's resistances and Tetraja let him fill a really specific niche for these last 2 Diet Building bosses

Nocturne HD is coming on May 25th, although this is actually just OG Nocturne emulated with mods and upscaling ;)
I mean I wouldn't have complained if you ended up getting Samael's xp. It's a boss not unlike the others, after all. It also woulda solved a lot of lucifer problems by getting you one more level (probably).
Having played ahead a little (spoilers) you're right. If I took the XP here, I would finish up on lvl 58 and Demi could learn Fire Repel. Non-essential but definitely a boon vs Luci for the extra chip damage, plus it would stop those annoying attack drops from Phlegethingy. Still, I've made my bed at this point.

@@si-level I don't think Luci will even come close to the longest fight, thanks to elemental repels.
All 3 reason bosses seem like a drag, and Kagutsuchi could last indefinitely depending how much he spams Infinite Light which now heals him and removes all buffs. It's difficult to outdamage him unless he wastes turns on other stuff.
best demon in hardtype? for me white rider only because of the laught
Hardtype Black Rider is the most based of all. Retains full ailment immunity + high agility makes him an ideal Prayerbot, and Soul Divide destroys those HP bloated random encounters. His laugh is the cutest too.
Unfortunately level 61 is just out of reach for this run :(

Uzubae and sheep in terms of favourites.
I really like Parvati too but don't get a chance to use her in this run. In fact all the times I might've used her Sati weirdly outclasses her, because I could boost Sati's stats with Mitama but Parvati is too overlevelled to do so.

why isn't his megidola as strong as mitra's? he's higher level and has the same magic stat unless they changed mitra's magic stat
must mean that mitra's megidola being super strong was completely intentional
It is by design but creates one of the less engaging fights in hardtype imo (mithra I mean, whole fight is just reapplying buffs every turn so you can survive the big boom)
