20 years ago I spent most of the time only doing Knitweave because it is so beautiful. I learnt from Audrey Palmer who has unfortunately passed away . She wrote a very comprehensive book called Create with Knitweave and if one is lucky her books are sometimes available. Once set up knitweaving can be fast as the weft yarn is threaded through the tension guide , so no weaving off the floor. . Knitweave stretches sideways but is firm in the length eg skirts don’t dip but give around the hips. Most of her designs are created sideways on the machine. The effects are fabulous.
Yes, early knitting machines were designed to do knitweave as well. My Brother KH580 (c 1966) shows it as a feature in the machine manual using the 8 buttons to create different weaving patterns.
Love, love, love your videos. Im busy binge watching them. Can I make a wee suggestion? For the show and tell portion, could you try and hold items steady and bring them to infront of the camera? Thank you for giving your time and effort, youre a godsend to this newbee.
Hi Angie, glad you like the videos! I must point out that I’m strictly amateur, and record all of them on an iPad. It’s sometimes difficult to remember where the camera is, but I will try and bear it in mind. I was going to invest in webcam equipment, but I want to support my local shop, so that’s out of the question until we’re out of COVID lockdown. The microphone socket on the iPad is also not working anymore, so I have to remember not to slide too far away from it as well!
The yellow pieces on the ends are for the AW1 weaving arm only, they trigger the switch of the weaving yarn from side to side. They won’t work in Fairisle.
It has been many years since I did any knit-weave, but I seem to remember that you can just make yardage and then cut and sew because it is very stable and not likely to 'run' when cut. Has anyone tried this?
Hi, is a studio. Machine different to the other knitmaster machines? I have had a zippy deluxe for many years but have always been too chicken to try knitweave. I may have to give it a go. Very well explained video. After watching it i am definitely trying it!! You make it look so easy!Thank you😊😅
Hi, a Studio machine is the same as a Knitmaster. They used to have different brand names depending on which country you lived in, so Knitmaster, Empisal, Studio and in some places Singer are names that all apply to the same machines. They now all go by the global brand name of Silver Reed. The standard gauge 24 stitch punchcard machines haven't changed much mechanically over the years, so what I can do on my machine, you should be able to do on your Zippy Deluxe. Have a try! it does take a bit of practice so don't be put off if your first attempts aren't perfect, they will improve
Good afternoon ma my name is Sylvester from Nigeria please I have a silver reed 325 machine that also come with that brush but I don't know how to fix it on please can you help me with the video on how to fix the brush
@@Sylvesterosagie01 there are several different brushes that attach to the machine. I’d need to know exactly which one. You can download a service manual from machineknittingetc.com which will show you.
The bag pattern has been published on Facebook in the Machine Knitting Beginners and Returners Circle. If applying to join, please answer the three joining questions. The shawl pattern was published by Iris Bishop and is called the Kaleidoscope shawl. Various stockists might still have hard copies, and it might be worth checking Ravelry.
That is very difficult for me to answer, as I don’t know what is available where you live. The older Knitmaster and Brother machines were very well made and and easy to restore to use.

Great Tutorial on knitweave. I am a big Knitmaster punchcard fanatic and I love the AW1 and the fabrics it produces. The bag looks great.

Sally, what are the yellow pugs on the ends? Can it be used when doing fair isle so ends will be neater? Thanks for all your teaching!!!

I haven’t tried it personally, but I have an old book that says you can do this.

What weight of yarn are you using?
The cream ground yarn is a U.K. 4 ply, the weaving yarn is chunky
Cannot see what you are showing!
