    A very informative video Sally and I really admire anyone who can punch a whole card with the pop punches. In the days before dye cutting machines I used the PM10 (or I paid someone to cut my cards for me!). Just as a note, at the risk of sounding pedantic (sorry!) at 4:46 Toyota machines don't use a belt mechanism, they use a grooved rotating rod that engages with the carriage and moves the needles. The rod spins backwards and forwards in time with the carriage movement - just as the belt mechanism would slide side to side (and in IMHO is much more reliable than the belt system which is prone to slipping).

    Hello Sally please please please will you tell me why the yarn gets tangled in brushes. I have got plastic but brushes protrude slightly. I am a new machine knitter and have had machine for a few weeks. Thank you for any help you give

    • @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
      @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts Месяц назад

      Honestly? it’s a beginner thing and will go away as you improve. Your overhead tension could be slightly off so that the yarn slackens off then catches, your yarn could be a bit fluffy, the brushes could have a wonky bristle or two. Try to get into the habit of holding the yarn above the carriage just as you start to knit the row, to stop it looping. You can also use the yarn separators (Silver Reed only) which will keep the yarn travelling through the arm instead of underneath it.

    • @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
      @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts Месяц назад

      You could, but you don’t need to. Ravel cord is useful in separating two sections of knitting without unravelling one of them. I use it mostly on the bottom end of the work, as unravelling knitting from the bottom up doesn’t work.

    • @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
      @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts 2 месяца назад

      Hi, no it’s not the finest gauge. This is a standard gauge machine with 4.5mm needle spacing, and this is the gauge you need for the Loom attachment. There used to be a fine gauge manufactured, 3.6mm but they are quite rare and sought after.

    where do you get the 10 cm. i have knit exactly as you describe in another video and my measurements is exactly like yours. but i don't understand the 10 cm part because if i measure my 'swatch it gives me 14x15 cm?

    • @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
      @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts 2 месяца назад

      Don’t measure your swatch with a ruler! The green scale calculates the EQUIVALENT number of stitches and rows per 10cm. But that’s not the number of rows and stitches that you knitted so of course it won’t measure 10x10cm.

    C'est systématiquement la méthode que j'utilise après en avoir essayé plusieurs.. A mon avis, c'est la plus simple et la plus sûre... Pour les diminutions, comme vous l'avez précisé, je retire le premier rang de fil principal après les diminutions car je trouve que les vides des aiguilles manquantes se voient trop 🤭... donc je détricote ce premier rang sans problème et je reprends le tricot. 😇 Pour les augmentations je fais exactement comme vous Un grand merci pour cette démonstration très claire 🥰

    Anyone know what could be causing dropped stitches on a LK150. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

    • @janatherton9194
      @janatherton9194 2 месяца назад

      Sometimes you can get dropped stitches if one of your latches is closed when the carriage goes across, you can also get them when you have a break in your yarn, or you have some static when using synthetic yarns. Another reason can be your weights, if you have too much, or too little weight your stitches can drop, especially at the edges. I start with claw weights at the edges and every few inches along the bottom and move them after about 2-3 inches of knitting has been done. I hope this helps you a bit.

    • @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts
      @sallybutcherskalamundakrafts 2 месяца назад

      Is it in the same place? If so, could be a damaged needle. If random, could be insufficient weight

    20 years ago I spent most of the time only doing Knitweave because it is so beautiful. I learnt from Audrey Palmer who has unfortunately passed away . She wrote a very comprehensive book called Create with Knitweave and if one is lucky her books are sometimes available. Once set up knitweaving can be fast as the weft yarn is threaded through the tension guide , so no weaving off the floor. . Knitweave stretches sideways but is firm in the length eg skirts don’t dip but give around the hips. Most of her designs are created sideways on the machine. The effects are fabulous.

      I believe this is a standard gauge machine, so any Silver Reed (now the global name for Empisal/Knitmaster, Singer and Studio) 24 stitch punchcards will work on it. You can also use other Brands such as Brother with the exception of lace. Just remember the start number is marked differently. Any machine dealer should have blank cards, you can also get them from EBay and Amazon.

    I'm in the US. What is the US equivalent of "white spirit"? Rubbing alcohol? Isopropyl alcohol?

    • @lancia.stratos
      @lancia.stratos 11 дней назад

      White Spirit in the UK is used as a paint thinner for traditional oil-based paints and is also used for cleaning paint brushes and rollers when used for this paint type. It is also sold here by the name of "turps substitute", "turps" being a contraction of gum turpentine. I think this is called "mineral spirit(s)" in Canada and the United States. It is definitely not propanone (aka "acetone") or propan-2-ol (aka "iso", "iso-propyl alcohol" which I believe you call "rubbing alcohol"). It also is not the thinners used for cellulose paint or spray gun cleaning, known as "cellulose thinners" in the UK.
