I hope you can help with this question - I have the Singer model 700 which is very similar to the one you demonstrate in this video. I have checked the control settings in the manual so many times I can't count, but for the life of me I can't get the machine/needles to pick up the second color yarn for Fair Isle. I've done everything as you have, making sure I'm using the slot in the yarn feed for the 2nd color of yarn. Our carriages look very similar - you make it look so easy! I have absolutely no idea why it's not working. If you have ideas, I would love to hear them! I cannot find any videos that discuss this particular issue. Plenty about loops and missed stitches, but none about why the yarn isn't being picked up. I'd actually be happy for loops at this point! :)

I wanted to get people up and running as quickly as possible, to be able to enjoy machine knitting and to see how easy it can be to knit. I did this video mainly because I sold a knitting machine to someone in another city and it was so they could watch and follow at the same time. It's because you are using different colour yarns and 1 yarn might end before the knitted edge and when you pull the needle forward it will catch/knit the yarn to give it a neat edge.
Hi this video is so helpful. I’ve been able to get the knitting empisal 323 that I inherited from my aunt working. It’s missing the motif plates, cams and yarn separators does that mean I can’t to motifs? Thank you
Those items are used with motifs however you could still knit using the punch card, it just means to will have lots of the same picture all over your garment. i have just been given this machine ,it looks great but the wheels on the under carriage are preventing the carriage from sliding across ,they are not moving so guessing they might just need cleaning im assuming it needs cleaning ,how do i access the wheels please help me , xx
There are some very good RUclips videos that show you how to strip the carriage and clean it. It's not too difficult to do. It's always best to take photos as you strip the carriage down. Keep a small container nearby for screws that you take off. Each carriage is slightly different when taking apart. The wheels need to spin freely. Yarn often gets wrapped around the wheels causing them to become hard to move. Perhaps the carriage may never have been stripped and cleaned before. Whereabouts are you in the world? You can purchase a set of 20 cards from China for around AUD$25 or if you have an electronic craft cutter you can cut your own. I use a Brother scan and cut machine, but you can use a Silhoutte or Cricut machine. There is info on RUclips how to do that and a Facebook group I have uploaded files you use with your cutting machine. Website AliExpress. Check it out! @@susanglaus4312 Thank you so very much !!! This is great start for me. I live in US. How about sizes cards. Do you know what size blank cards I buy it for my machine ? My daughter in law has a circuit maybe she can donut for me :)
I was using the colours to test the machine after I serviced it. Not my favourite colours however it's always good to experiment and knit something unique :)
Great video! I have been cleaning up a 321. It is a great, sturdy machine. I have been successful getting it to tuck and slip, but whenever I try fairisle, the main color does not knit off properly. The colors don’t switch on the main side of the fabric. If I look at the needles while knitting, some needles have two stitches on them instead of the single stitch they should have. I am going to try again with your video, but I think I have done everything just as you have. I have also cleaned the carriage and made sure the flippers are moving like they should and installed new spongebars. In addition, I have cleaned old fiber out of the bed of the machine and from the “towers” on the carriage. I would be thrilled if you had some advice. I am mostly familiar with Brother machines, so I am hoping that I have just missed something stupid.
Hi Laura, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, it's been a hectic week. The only thing I can think of with 2 stitches on the same needle is that you need extra weight on your knitting? Are all the levers on the side and front of the carriage in the correct positions? The "towers" you mentioned, are the drums and they help with patterning. With the carriage off the bed, do the drums spin freely/easily? Let me know if you managed to sort the issue out. Happy knitting :)
Hi there love your video! I'm new to using a machine as I can't crochet by hand anymore due to severe carpol tunnel and I have a question the model I use is a Toyota ks 901 would this tutorial still apply to mine silly question I know but I'm new to this haha
thank you so much for this video! I have a Studio Model 322, which looks EXACTLY like this machine.. I'm assuming they are the same, just singer vs studio. on my carriage, one of the big dials on the back (unsure of its name) but its not spinning freely. I'm told they both should turn quite easily. I can't find anything jamming it. Any idea how to get it moving? I'd love to get this machine operational. thanks!!
Yes, that would be the reason why the stitches drop. In the manual it explains the reason why you pull 1 stitch forward for each row. It gives you a finished edged.
It's to make different types of stitches (A different pattern). The best is to search on Google " Knitting machine tuck stitch pictures" and you'll be able to see the type of stitches you'll be able to make with your machine. Certain punch cards (that may have come with your machine) are only for tuck stitch. Look up the other types of stitches on google to see that they can do.
This video was very clear. I’m very interested in getting a machine, but I’m not sure how to even go about choosing. I’ve been knitting, and crocheting by hand, but would love to figure out which machine to get. Any advice on how I should go about deciding on one?
1. Decide on what you would like to knit with the machine 2. What's your budget 3. Join a machine knitting Facebook Group and ask them for advice as there are so many different types of machines. 4. Push buttons, punch card and electronic machines are available and up to you as to how easy/difficult the machine can be to learn. 5. Do you want to knit lace? Summer lace tops. Not all machines come with lace carriages. 6. Some machine brands come with lots of accessories 7. Choice between plastic or metal bed. I prefer metal bed as it's stronger 8. Size of knitting stitch. You get fine, standard and chunky knitting machines. Start with a standard 4.5mm as there are many available. 9. New or second hand. There are some new plastic beds on the market however people have not been that happy with them. Purchase a steel bed one and preferably one that's been serviced so you can knit straight away. Pricing ranges from Free, as the machines need to be stripped down, cleaned up and oiled. Singer or Brother punch card machines, depending on the model can sell from $100 depending if all the accessories are with the machine. Most knitting machine manuals are now available free online. I hope this helps you :)
This has helped me also and thanks for the video. Which machine would you recommend for a beginner and learner. Am planning to do knitting as a self employment.
To buy, you can visit TheJapaneseMachines on the etsy website. Send me a message via etsy and I will calculate the shipping fee for you. and i will add empisal there.
I’m following this video, but the first row - my machine is not doing anything! It’s not catching the yarn! I wished you explained the whole setting on the carriage
You need to make sure you have pushed the yarn all the way in and the end of the yarn underneath the machine, push towards the back of the machine and then try knit from left to right. If sounds like you haven't push the yarn into the carriage properly
If you are talking about your punch cards, no not necessary if you are only doing a few rows before changing to a different punch card. If you are doing hundreds of rows, yes, so the punch card keeps rotating around and around
Unfortunately I don't teach online. There are a number of RUclips videos people have made that can help. I will upload some more videos in the coming weeks.
Sorry for not replying sooner. You can purchase the punch cards online or you can make your own. Search the web for making your own knitting machine punch cards

That's beautiful! I really want one of these now. I think I don't have the patience for hand knitting large pieces.
once you get into machine knitting, you'll never look back
This is wonderful
Thank you
Thank you so much for the video !!!! Help me a lot .
I'm glad you found it helpful. Happy knitting!
Can you show how to knit a polo collar on the machine with the ribber, this will help to be able to make a polo shirt for menswear.
Great video. Thanks. Why do you pull forward the first needle in each row when punchcard knitting? Is this just a Singer machine requirement?
It's because you are using different colour yarns and 1 yarn might end before the knitted edge and when you pull the needle forward it will catch/knit the yarn to give it a neat edge.
Hi this video is so helpful. I’ve been able to get the knitting empisal 323 that I inherited from my aunt working. It’s missing the motif plates, cams and yarn separators does that mean I can’t to motifs? Thank you
Those items are used with motifs however you could still knit using the punch card, it just means to will have lots of the same picture all over your garment. I am in the process of loading files for people to download and 3d print knitting machine parts. Therefore if you haven't got these parts and have a 3d printer available. (We have 3d printers at our local public library.) You would be able to download and print the parts you need or alternatively purchase off Ebay. The site I have been uploading 3d printable files to is called Thingiverse. My username is SuziePerth. Best is to subscribe there and everytime I upload a knitting machine part for 3d printing you will be notified. Hope this helps?
@@susanglaus4312 thank you so much for replying, your answer is so helpful and fantastic news about your site. 3D printing sounds like a great idea I will check the site out. Thanks again very much appreciated
Por favor paque sirve el rollo negro del costado derecho de la maquina
i have just been given this machine ,it looks great but the wheels on the under carriage are preventing the carriage from sliding across ,they are not moving so guessing they might just need cleaning im assuming it needs cleaning ,how do i access the wheels please help me , xx
Buenos dias.
Hello Susan, I just got one of this vintage machine and was able to cast on and the do the beginning when I realized I don’t have punch cards. Where do I find them ? It seems that all are digital …lol…I’m so lost. How do I do this ? “ please help me “ ? Thank you kindly ~ Patricia

Hello, can you teach the texture of a single flower by machine?🙏🌹
Beautiful. Wasn't sure about the colours, but it turn out very nice!
Thank you!
Dear susan - is the cast on comb required or does it just make thing neater?
It's not required. It is not a neat cast on compared to other methods of cast on. It's a quick cast on method :)
Hi there love your video! I'm new to using a machine as I can't crochet by hand anymore due to severe carpol tunnel and I have a question the model I use is a Toyota ks 901 would this tutorial still apply to mine silly question I know but I'm new to this haha
This is awesome, thank you very much.
thank you so much for this video! I'd love to get this machine operational. thanks!!
How have you gone with machine knitting know? Make sure you keep oiling the carriage and bed
My edges alway get dropped. Pulling the first needle forward each row will probably solve my problem. Mahalo🏝
Yes, that would be the reason why the stitches drop. In the manual it explains the reason why you pull 1 stitch forward for each row. It gives you a finished edged.
How to use design card number 311
Hi you made good things ,how can I get this machine I need to buy it
Please tell me...what is the function of other modes...like tuck mode, slip mode and punch lace mode...
I am eagerly waiting for the next video on this topic....
Can i use a brother kr850 ribber on a empisal knitmaster mod 324?
No as the Empisal you have is the same as a Singer / Silver Reed and the ribber is a SRP20. I am not sure the SRP50 fits this machine
In other countries, the Empisal was actually a Brother :) That adds to the confusion!
This video was very clear. I’m very interested in getting a machine, but I’m not sure how to even go about choosing. I’ve been knitting, and crocheting by hand, but would love to figure out which machine to get. Any advice on how I should go about deciding on one?
1. Decide on what you would like to knit with the machine
2. What's your budget
6. Some machine brands come with lots of accessories
7. Choice between plastic or metal bed. I prefer metal bed as it's stronger

Thanks 😊
I’m following this video, but the first row - my machine is not doing anything! It’s not catching the yarn! I wished you explained the whole setting on the carriage
You need to make sure you have pushed the yarn all the way in and the end of the yarn underneath the machine, push towards the back of the machine and then try knit from left to right. If sounds like you haven't push the yarn into the carriage properly
What's the name of that machine madama suzan
Is it compulsory to pin down your cards
If you are talking about your punch cards, no not necessary if you are only doing a few rows before changing to a different punch card. If you are doing hundreds of rows, yes, so the punch card keeps rotating around and around
thank you
