Honda always had good cars. The artificial sound is the worst i have ever heard. It would totally make me crazy..holy. The handling and the front axle are good as usual. Btw. The guy is a really nice dude. I hope He will get His New Type R soon, he deserves it.
@@aikhaa996 I have test driven a 308 GTI a few years ago, when it still had 272HP with no OPF. Great Car imo. I think the Sound actuator wasnt half as bad as this one. This Honda here has a high pitch sound and a CVT that mimics a DCT, which is insane. It mimics non existant gear changes. To me that is worse then just artificial sounds. I hate CVTs with a passion.
@@t3chn0m0 To be precise, there is no CVT in this car, technically there's no gearbox at all. Traction is 100% electric, the engine acts as a generator and its speed is mostly unrelated to speed and acceleration. They introduced these fake gear changes because people complained a lot about Toyota's CVT feel. In Honda's series system the natural condition of the engine in this fast track environment would be to drone at constant max RPM most of the time, which apparently would be a worse option for most people.
Hello all, first of all thanks Misha for doing this lap with this car, i have one and i was wondering if it would ever happen and im glad that it happened . Regarding the car, it has no gears, yes the sound is not the best but well, but if you drive in the city in eco you have no sound and the fuel consumption is amazing, 4 litres/100km is normal but you cab go to extremes of 3.5l/100km and in highways at 120km/h you have 5.2l/100km , so that is why this setup. The car is 90% of the tike using only eletric engine and only above 120 or with a hard pull will engage the clutch for the ICE. There are no gear and no CVT is basicly a eletric car with a generator in it.
This is not a CVT. The way the Honda hybrid system works is that the ICE acts as a generator which powers an electric motor (which can also be powered solely or partially by the battery pack). The electric motor is what drives the wheels. There is only a small cruising speed range (around 100-120kph) where a clutch closes and the wheels are directly driven by the ICE. At any other given time, the ICE and the wheels are completely disconnected, which is what allows the ICE to run in its most efficient region, hence the great fuel consumption. The downside to this, however, is that the engine sound is really unproportional to the acceleration. The gear-shift mimicking sounds were Honda's attempt to improve this correlation, but I agree it was a hit and miss... Nevertheless, a really solid chassis which would make for a great tuning platform if they released a petrol version for those who can't afford a Type-R.
Well explained! 👍 In the US, there is SI version, which is a petrol version using this amazing chasis. Unfortunately, we do not have such option for whatever stupid reasons here in Europe. 🙄
@@slivkask8329 The lack of SI in Europe is such a shame. I have the previous gen Sport which is almost there (20hp less than SI from the same 1.5T) and love it as a fun daily. I'd 100% get the SI if it existed here.
2:08 the car is not really a CVT! It gets sold as an "eCVT" because explaining what it really is... is not easy. I mean it's an easy concept, but there's no marketing term for it. Basically the car has no transmission. It's one gear with an overdrive gear with a system that makes the petrol engine work in a serial or parallel hybrid configuration. Basically the electric engine fills up the powerband to make it all work without real gearing, it's wild, but simple and reliable. It's also why there's this horrific noise on top, you can have the engine rpm be completely unlinked from the car speed (i.e. the engine can work only as a generator for the electric engines)
For people complaining about the sound, it was totally not meant for the track. If you drive the car a bit enthusiastically on a back road it actually sounds pretty good and you would hear more noises of the car going through the gears. It sounds bad and droney here because on a track you maintain really high speeds.
I often get annoyed when journalists (Clarkson especially) would misuse the words sound and noise. This is just noise, and utterly horrible). The GT3 is pure sound
I drive a manual CR-Z (obviously with small bits of mods), and I think one thing Honda's 'sporty' hybrid cars excels at is that you can enjoy your car (in terms of 'feelings' - Honda put lots of efforts into ensuring a low sitting position) when you want to (just switch to 'Sport'), yet you can also relax when you want to (just switch to 'Normal') and get on with your day. Many cars can deliver fun, but few of them can do both, and if you plan to enjoy a car more/keep it for long, both really matter (good to have fun on a run, but few cars could also make good fun getting groceries).
I have a U.K. ‘23 Civic eHEV Advance and over 12,000 miles the car has been perfect with great handling and a better ride than the BMW M340i I had before. I would confirm that the car does NOT have a gearbox at all although the engine will, under low load conditions, connect directly with the wheels through a single speed clutch. The synthesised engine sound is only added in Sport mode and is nowhere near as prominent in everyday on road driving. The instant 315NM torque from the electric motor produces very good “off the mark” acceleration that, after I test drove it and switched back to my then BMW M340i, did not feel noticeably slower around town. Obviously the BMW would pull away at higher speed but, now that I am (early) retired, the Honda is perfect for me!
As an owner of an FL5 Sport Hatchback (non-hybrid), this video certainly makes me appreciate my car a lot more. It's not fast, by any means, but the handling isn't bad, and the chassis is set up decently enough that you can have a little fun with it. As a daily, it's a great car and gets very good fuel mileage and the practicality of having a large storage space in the back is useful. Interestingly, when I have my car in "sport" mode, it doesn't produce artificial gear changes. It's just a constant sound, like what most CVTs are. Perhaps that's just a thing with the hybrid models? I don't really know, but either way, the sound isn't going to be great. I'm sure we'll see people putting exhaust cans on their FL5s in the not-so-distant future, but it's not going to really make the cars sound any better. If you want a car that sounds good, there's plenty of other ones on the market that are far better at it. You'll just have to pay a somewhat steeper price for them, unfortunately.
Your car has an actual CVT, so the engine is not completely free to run at preset RPMs and produce fake gear changes. In the hybrid the engine is completely disengaged from traction, so they were somehow free to let it run at whatever RPMs they wanted it to sound. It does that in any driving mode, luckily only when accelerating fast. The only difference in Sport mode is they added the audio enhancement on top of actual RPMs.

I bought my 5 speed civic hybrid last year.. Love the car to death! I am dreaming of installing a rear-mounted tesla drive unit.. We will see if it can happen over the coming years. The stock 90 ish horsepower isn't quite enough :)
Watching this makes me think back to those Fast & Furious cars with unlimited gear changes and takes forever to reach to the final destination. 🤣🤣
Ive always likes Honda and seeing how this newest generation of Civic has done is exciting.
Despite being underpowered compared to a oot of the cars on the channel its still cresting 200kph and handling really well!!
the hybrid isn't really underpowered. its got more power than a lot of base civics of the past
This sound would make me kill myself 😂
What the hell is that sound 😭😂
Great video as always! Just a quick one Misha... Which are better for handling coilovers or lowering springs as I have coilovers on now but they are not the best. Stance ultras are my current setup
on which site can we order the front blade? thanks in advance 😉
I'd be finding the fuse for the speakers.
He's tricked it up a bit.
Looks bloody lovely
Honda Canada, when u bring this out, dont go over $38....ur recent Canadian prices r crazy. Interesting seening this on the ring.
That E36 at the end, hell yeah! Love that classic livery!
There is a better place for E36 BMWs than a race track... Scrapyard.

Why they think it’s a good idea to put fake engine sounds in cars will always baffle me. It says to me “we are ok with telling lies”. I don’t want a car that lies to me.
Good you were not driving the Dacia last night 😱
The moment I heard the sound I started crying from laughter, awesome vid, awesome car
Did you try the new subaru impreza hybrid?
Things to note, did not care about the CVT, actually noted that it would be a pain to drive in traffic if manual. He was impressed by the car's handling. I would say for street use this is good value for money and with a few more mods it will be a street weapon. Now. The Civic type r needs an auto option and a traditional e brake
Roumanian number plate😈
Wait 40k and a student? Thats crazy
That’s what I was thinking. I’m 59 with a good job and can’t do that. Cars are just so overpriced right now.
It's possible to file for flight plans for commercial filming via drone on the Nürburgring, maybe you should consider hiring a drone cinematographer to film laps associated with your videos, would be a very cool perspective to include.
And wow, that fake engine noise is almost strangely insulting, haha.
Which is this spoiler?
I love this channel, all types of cars can be fun!
Why don't they offer fake noise deletes from factory. I hate those "sporty" interior sounds.
Good to see my fellow Romanian on the Nordschleife.
ears left the chat
Foarte frumos! Felicitari pentru masina si clipul cu Misha! :)
RIP Blinking Dacia... will always be in our hearts...
Handling is one of the main reasons I'm back to Honda for my daily. Misha, you have to try the Honda CR-Z someday soon. Not fast by any means, but tons of fun. It's hybrid, but a proper manual 6+1 with no "add on" sounds in the speakers.

sounds like a 90s arcade racing game
I have a "trip" button on my steering wheel. What does this button do actually?
Nee car owner here.toyota
Hhh good in one second I was going to bay it 50 gear change hair dryer noise I will check other thinks new gti maybe
It'd be fun to replace the engine sound with a recording of a guy going "WAAAHHH!" like a kid pretending to be driving.
Pls tell me there's an option to turn that fake intake/exhaust noise off
весь круг , тапка в пол ...и расход 6,5 л/100 км ? )))))🔥
Apart, laat ik het zo omschrijven, dat geluid.
my brother in law now owns this car:))
it sounds like in the movie fast and the furious. they just keep shifting and have infinite gears
Would be nice to test hybrid Lexus gs450h f-sport
l love new civic but this sound... real sound is VTC💪💪 l will by old real honda and test with you at the nurburgring. god luck misha from 🇬🇪❤️ 🤜🤛
i expect to see a video that has Pittard, 296 GT3, and some engine noises soon ... !
Crazy sound civic ever 😅
