In 1970 The Moody Blues were at their creative and commercial peak. After reinventing themselves from their R&B roots to a much more sophisticated sound, between 1967 and 1970 they released five albums, four of which hit the Top 5 in the UK with two of them going to No.1. They enjoyed similar success in the USA where four of the albums hit the Top 20 and the other was just outside. At the end of August 1970, shortly after the release of their album A Question Of Balance, The Moody Blues took to the stage of the Isle Of Wight Festival in front of an audience estimated at over half a million.
This DVD makes that performance available to be seen for the first time.
It features tracks from their best selling albums: Days Of Future Passed, In Search Of The Lost Chord, On The Threshold Of A Dream, To Our Childrens Childrens Children and A Question Of Balance.
Includes the classic hit singles Nights In White Satin and Questions.
    Tracklisting:
    1) Documentary (approx 20 mins) The Concert: 2) Gypsy 3) Tuesday Afternoon 4) Never Comes The Day 5) Tortoise And The Hare 6) Questions 7) Sunset 8) Melancholy Man 9) Nights In White Satin 10) Legend Of A Mind 11) Ride My See Saw 12) Conclusion.
    I'm a melancholy man, that's what I am,
All the world surrounds me, and my feet are on the ground.
I'm a very lonely man, doing what I can,
All the world astounds me and I think I understand
That we're going to keep growing, wait and see.
When all the stars are falling down
Into the sea and on the ground,
And angry voices carry on the wind,
A beam of light will fill your head
And you'll remember what's been said
By all the good men this world's ever known.
Another man is what you'll see,
Who looks like you and looks like me,
And yet somehow he will not feel the same,
His life caught up in misery, he doesn't think like you and me,
'Cause he can't see what you and I can see.

He created his music and shared his message with the world from a place of spiritual grounding. As he always said, 'Keep your head above the clouds but keep your feet on the ground.' His authentic essence uplifted everyone who came into contact with him. His lyrics, philosophy, and vision of humanity and our place in the cosmos will resonate with generations to come.

The beginning with the flute and guitar is beautiful... and Ray Thomas is rocking that double corduroy look in 1970s earthy tones to perfection. I was a 9-month old baby when my parents took me to the IoW festival on the same day the Moody Blues performed. Whether I was there at that moment - who knows. I would have loved to have been.

Though I’ve been familiar with all of the Moody’s big hits for many years, I’ve never heard this song until around late April of this year. Interest in the different Isle of Wight sets has led me to this, and I found the performance so haunting with 600,000 in attendance, at sunset and captured on film, and so poignant to the place that I’m in, in my life right now.
I’ve been listening to it over and over.
Then I heard that Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues who wrote and sang Melancholy Man died on April 24, right at the moment that this song came into my life.
I believe that music is like love, and memory, and long forgotten smells, and old paintings that suddenly look new.
I shouldn’t say too much because a 54 year-old song just tapped me on the shoulder at the moment that it’s composer left this world. It’s all mysterious yet familiar and something like a dream becoming reality. And, I really shouldn’t say much more about it.

Did somebody say they lacked "chops" ???!!! Well, they're not showboaters but I've always been able to hear and feel the beauty of their music. I'm getting up there age-wise and I've seen almost everyone in concert; punks, folkies, shoe-gazers, head-bangers and I will say that the Moodies got it ALL! (Alas, I've only gotten to see them twice). Their bonus chops would include their passion, expression, spirituality, love for music and humanity. Since the advent of wonderful RUclips, I have been able to delve into them and other bands to my heart's content. I was very ill last summer, and I could only listen to the Moodies, their uplifting and healing music was the only thing I wanted to hear. Hayward's voice and lyrics especially. I really love Mike on this one. What an awesome song ! I can't find the Isle of Wight performances by the Moody Blues on RUclips (just this one) but when I type it in on the browser, they are there and seem to be on some Russian RUclips. But you ought to check them out...just wonderful!

THESE were the days! Simple..care free...no one was a.stranger..NEVER had a worry in the WORLD...AND THEN CAME THE MOODY BLUES, which started A WHOLE NEW ERA OF MYSTIC ROMANTIC METAPHORES DRIVEN BY SUCH WONDEROUS AND DEEP FELT SOUNDS OF STRINGS AND ORCHESTRATED BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENTS THAT COMPLETELY TAKES YOU BY THE HAND AND TELLS YOU A STORY THROUGH EACH VERY CAREFULLY AND SKILLFULLY PLACED WORDS THAT GIVE PAUSE TO PONDER EACH AND EVERY ONE AS THEY SPEAK IN DELIBERATE RIDDLES THAT GLIDE..FLY...

..CRY..SCREAM...WANDER...DREAM AND SAIL ON WISHES AND WHISPERS OF A LOVE SO TRUE AND REACHES OUT THROUGH THE VERY DEPTHS WITHIN ONES HEART THAT IS EXPRESSED WITH EACH AND EVERY INSTRUMENT AS THE WORDS SO SKILLFULLY NAVIGATES ITS DESIRE TO BE HEARD, AND UNDERSTOOD, WHICH REVEALS ITS MESSAGE IN SUCH A FULFILLING MUSICAL WAY...THROUGH EVERY CHORD..NOTE..KEY AND WORDS SAID IN SONG...AS EACH BELONG EXACTLY WHERE THE AUTHOR LEFT THEM AND EXPRESSED THEM EXACTLY AS EACH INSTRUMENT PLAYED THEM.

Ya know, when you mature and have maybe caught a brief glimpse of expanded consciousness, largely due to Moodies music, you can't imagine how they could re-create this music live right in front of you. I consider myself fortunate for a couple of things-one is that I have actually been able to see them a few times and also that nice people have been posting obscure stuff like on RUclips.

This song was on the flip-side of Tuesday Afternoon in the 70's, which caused me to buy the album, then another, etc. Imagine listening to everyday mindless pop songs before this came along. Many thanks for posting!

There's an interview with Mike Pinder where he states that he told the Beatles they should try the Mellatron and that he wrote down the name of the company that made the instrument and the name of who to contact, etc. They took him up on that and ordered two of their own instruments. Yes, Mike Pinder was THE master wasn't he? I wish he hadn't left the group, but I love the Moodys all the way through their careers.
