In 1970 The Moody Blues were at their creative and commercial peak. After reinventing themselves from their R&B roots to a much more sophisticated sound, between 1967 and 1970 they released five albums, four of which hit the Top 5 in the UK with two of them going to No.1. They enjoyed similar success in the USA where four of the albums hit the Top 20 and the other was just outside. At the end of August 1970, shortly after the release of their album A Question Of Balance, The Moody Blues took to the stage of the Isle Of Wight Festival in front of an audience estimated at over half a million.
This DVD makes that performance available to be seen for the first time.
It features tracks from their best selling albums: Days Of Future Passed, In Search Of The Lost Chord, On The Threshold Of A Dream, To Our Childrens Childrens Children and A Questiuon Of Balance.
Includes the classic hit singles Nights In White Satin and Questions.
    Tracklisting:
    1) Documentary (approx 20 mins) The Concert: 2) Gypsy 3) Tuesday Afternoon 4) Never Comes The Day 5) Tortoise And The Hare 6) Questions 7) Sunset 8) Melancholy Man 9) Nights In White Satin 10) Legend Of A Mind 11) Ride My See Saw 12) Conclusion.
    Tuesday Afternoon
    Moody Blues
    Tuesday afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see, now I'm on my way
It doesn't matter to me, chasing the clouds away.
    Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?
Those gentle voices I hear, explain it all with a sigh.
I'm looking at myself reflections of my mind,
It's just the kind of day to leave myself behind.
So gently swaying through the fairyland of love,
If you'll just come with me you'll see the beauty of
    Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon.
    Tuesday, afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see, now I'm on my way.
It doesn't matter to me, chasing the clouds away.
    Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why?
Those gentle voices I hear, explain it all with a sigh.

Their music was very healing to me in 1970 when I came back from a year as an infantryman in 'Nam. I was that "Melancholy Man" at that time trying to fit back in to 'the World' as we used to say..I looked like every other college student on campus but inside was 'not the same.' Thank God for this group and their music and poetry...they were indeed at the right time and the right place for me and others.

    @Tuy19299,
When I visited the R&R Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 2001 they had a display on the MBs. The caption said they "overcame criticisms that they were bombastic and pretentious..." to enjoy great success. I grew up in the '60's & experienced the Moody Blues success as it was happening. I never heard anyone call them bombastic and pretentious. I have musician friends who have told me told me the more they listened to the Moody Blues the more impressed they were.

The guitar notes in this version are way better than the original studio version. The guitars here are a little more pronounced and brought forward than in the original. They should do a remaster using the guitar's played this way. Maybe there already is, but I have never heard of it other than this one. Absolutely incredible band of musicians here who endured the test of time. I was fortunate enough to see them live twice with all the members present and they were always good live.

The Moody Blues not in the R&R hall of fame. They better get there music out and listen to it again. It's simply some of the greatest music ever written. Do I have to remind them how many hits they had on the radio. People grew up listening to Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Melancholy Man, Ride My See Saw... And these days the hits just keep coming... The Other side Of Life, Etc. Let';s get it together and let them know they are one of the greatest bands ever. "Retro Ron" on you tube

The Rock and Roll hall of fame is so clueless and so full of themselves it is hard to think of them without getting sick to my stomach. Their snub of the Moody Blues is as good of example as any. I laugh at these critics and the industry. They think they are sooo cool and important. The Moody Blues have composed so many beautiful songs I don't know where to begin. I am just grateful I was given the experience. The big world is too in love with themselves to see it or hear it.

This is the song that hooked me. After hearing it a few times over the speaker at work in the early 90s. I bought their greatest hits. Then I had to hear everything they ever did. I bought every album but the classic 7 (1967-72) I'll never get tired of. I saw them live 2010 in the seventh row. I love this band.

Love Hayward with the Gibson. It was tailor made for this tune that he wrote. The lyrics were also great. And the band was so tight on this. He did forget one line early on, he forget the words "the trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why." But he quickly regrouped and never looked back.

Love to watch these guys perform this so many years ago, Who cares if it isn't "perfect"??? Why does it need to be? Do you think the Beatles never missed a note, 'forgot' or switched up the lyrics? So happy someone thought to record this for us to enjoy 41 years later. I will be thinking of how they sounded then in '70 when I see them this August. I KNOW they will sound as good! Justin has an unforgettable voice

I thought it was cool to see a show for free, had heard of "Knights in White Satin," and thought that it was a great song. Knew very few other songs from them. Anybody that really appreciates great music, great sound, and real musical talent would have loved hearing the MOODY BLUES as much as I did that night in Columbia, MD! I had always loved "Tuesday Afternoon" and had never realized it was them!

    Hi
Thanks for the comment. The song is indeed from the album you say, but the DVD that this live performance is taken from is as labelled.
    Thanks
    James

Memories from 1970. "The trees are drawing me near, got to find out why." This line always hooked me.
