Moved out of Long Island 3 years ago and I’m very happy I did!!
Too expensive to live there and NY has changed a lot!!
Started looking for houses on Long Island December 2021. Every night scanning for new houses on the computer. Open houses and private viewings every single weekends. Open houses sometimes took hours, with lines for hundreds of feet. When my fiancé and I would finally find a house we liked enough to make an offer, the offer had to be made by the upcoming Sunday/Monday and be either asking or more than asking to even be entertained.
It’s extremely discouraging. Especially for new home buyers. You have no way of collecting your bearings and figuring out a strategy. You need to view the house, and throw a crazy offer in. If it’s crazy enough you win it.
Finally on April 12th 2022 our offer has been accepted. It’s a horrible process and will test your limits. But keep pushing. Don’t force it. You will eventually find the house where everything aligns. The house will be appealing, no need to convince yourself. And the process of bidding will feel right.
“Long Island is a joke” .. if it’s not a home on the Border of queens and Nassau County line then it’s not worth living out Far East of that.. It’s better to live in a swamp anywhere in Florida then to live in the boondocks like Suffolk county .. and far out pass Hicksville
Yea but NYC rental market is on fire as well. Something doesn't make sense, I thought everyone was leaving New York?
So many neighborhoods on Long Island that are just too dangerous to live in,! Gangs, illegal drugs, and local water supply is tainted by all the overdevelpment. Due to "social programs" property taxes are ridiculous.
I grew and worked around Long Island. It’s the influx of a group brought in the gang activity. It’s like a 3 rd world country. Long Island was one of the best county to live in. Now, the other groups having the whole tribe overcrowding the place the blocks with cars and etc

@@walikhaled7739 Trump admin. tried to deport MS13 gang members from Suffolk but couldn't because they were 2nd gen. born in America. Don't worry, the tide is rising and everyone will head for the Midwest in 30 yrs.

I hope you're right because way too many people are getting forced off LI by these high prices.
As long as everything in a particular area is zoned single family only, housing costs are going to be high. That’s the reality.
