- Real estate brokers on Long Island are being sued for housing discrimination. CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reports undercover investigators posed as renters to find out what went on.
What exactly do you expect when the government has made it virtually impossible to evict a bad tenant?
Interesting point
They don't pay rent also
If the rent is paid directly to the landlord that shouldn't be a prob;em. The problem is having a tenant that causes problems for the neighbors and property.
The voucher program is not bad, it's most of the bad folks utilizing the program who give bad experiences to landlords (Destroyed apts, loud music at all times, drugs, mentally ill, criminals, disrespectful, Etc...).
It's a huge gamble if you get a decent respectful tenant from the voucher program (who won't do the mentioned above).
I am stuck at a homeless shelter with a housing voucher on my hands. Nobody wants to accept it. I have all my interactions with brokers recorded. Please help me sue them. I need a good pro bono lawyer.
You can’t force people to do what you want
@@Sowhat-b7e Those sneaky mother-fuckers are obligated to accept vouchers. It is the law.
Contact the human rights commission they will represent you for free
@@dollmafiagaming5920I did. They are useless, unfortunately.
Sorry but nobody wants section 8 programs. That's logical.
Why not it's guaranteed money and it decrease the homeless situation are you saying having somewhere to live for the common tax paying American citizen should be a luxury and when I say tax payers I'm talking about people that work and have a voucher cause believe it or not outside that little bubble of your you live in some people actually need help with the sky rockting rent in some of these places.
I dont see what the problem is tbh. A landlord has the right to decide if they want voucher holders or not. Because sadly, the truth is, most sec 8 recipients (not all) do not take care of your property! I have a friend who is now well over $20,000 in REPAIRS after evicting someone on sec 8! I mean someone who is not on housing assistance could do the same but for some reason, sec 8 has a bad name.
For some reason that's laughable 😅
I get it not all section 8 individuals are desirable....but all that Section 8 is bad...blah blah blah.... BUT WHAT ABOUT THE VETRANS WHO FOUGHT AND WERE CRITICALLY INJURED...WHO NEED HELP...HALF IF NOT ALL WHO SAID THEY AGREE WITH BLATANT SHUNNING SECTION 8...HAVE NEVER EVEN SERVED A DAY IN THERE LIFE IN UNIFORM....food for thought.
Regardless how you play the game , section 8 is section 8 don't matter if u r homeless , veteran or both or single mom with kid. The guideline to evict section 8 tenant
is extra step. Must get an approval letter from federal before court hearing
99% are single mother with wild unsupervised kids and a boyfriend that is not supposed to be there .
The fact they lump them in with such individuals kinda tells you how the government views them. If it was just veterans then renters would definitely rent to them.
Tbh no one wants section 8 renters , yes section 8 is reliable payments. But typically comes with undesirables tenants or teens etc.
I personally agree with being picky as I moved from an otherwise decent neighborhood which turned ratchet quickly when it was overwhelmed by renters .
A community of houses should not have rentals or air bnbs they have cities and projects to accommodate those whom need affordable housing.
Tax paying home owners want to build their communities not foster transients, temp neighbors which typically come with extra baggage. If vetting individuals was easier process unlike the laws that have made it unfair for landlords over the years.
👍 Truth
This is a legit problem because a lot of bad people are on the government dole along with good people who have legitimately fallen on hard times. How does this get sorted out for the protection of the genuine needy as well as neighborhoods and property owners? This is a dilemma for all involved. It’s important to be able to determine if a tenant is suitable for a property and some judgement of their mental health, character, criminal history, financial activities, lifestyle, etc..., is important and justified. Personally, I believe that Section 8 tenants should have access to section 8 housing in government owned buildings and properties. Independent property owners should not be forced to absorb this, which often results in people with criminal histories moving into communities they end up victimizing and degrading.
This been going on for decades
Discriminating against people that want to give their family a better life is wrong
They did not mention HOW these tenants get the vouchers . Many from being in shelters ( for the # time ) after bankrupting the previous landlord from LONGGGGGG time no rent payment . Why would any landlord "willingly" accept some of these voucher holders ? SMH.
I think it should be ok to restrict rent to those that can afford it themselves.
The government should build homes for section 8 residents
Have had a lifelong mental disability and am in a Supported Housing program. Can confirm they discriminate against people like me and keep us out of the more desirable areas to live (even though that's exactly where we NEED to live!)
You live in a desirable area already.
You have a good quality of life.
You don’t speak like your disabled.
I'd rather play Russian Roulette than rent out to these programs that almost always end bad. My property...my choice.
My property my rules.
sounds like someone discriminates and steals houses from people
Good !
Maybe NYC would take them in. At this point us Long islanders can't stand this stuff anymore. It's usually people from NYC so why not they build the affordable housing? Because clearly it's not working here even after everything they built.
Who cares, Virginia and Maryland are nicer
They do the same thing there
they need to go to JAIL.....they do this all the time...lets make a huge example here????
Now sue all those nice areas in queens they do the same
Most the nice areas are no longer nice in queens bc of low income housing and section 8. Yes there's many great people but the bad few overwhelm the rest
They are nice area because they don't have section 8 .
JAIL TIME no doubt!
Lol 😂
Shut up, they make a bad reputation for Themselvds
Love it
