      So very true. Even after Vietnam, many blacks had difficult times getting the G.I. Bill, especially in the Southern states. They can either pay now or have the most HIGH tell them, "And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance." (Gen 15:14, KJV) You don't want him to tell you to do something, it won't end well. Obviously, its going to be very bad.

      I assume you mean white people when you say "they". As a white person I'd like to say that I wish and pray for change. And that we can makeup for some of the atrocities perpetrated on non-whites by our ancestors. There is still much hate in the world but there are also plenty of us that don't have hate in our hearts but truly believe in equal justice and equality for all people. What's really sad is that, to be honest, I don't really know any black people and that really bothers me. I live in a predominantly mexican neighborhood by choice and maybe because I live in California and I love it. I love my neighbors. We're different culturally but we respect and acknowledge our differences as much as we appreciate our shared humanity. I've also had indian and pakistani neighbors and I love and appreciate their culture and heritage as well as all that we have in common. I ask that people not judge all white people by the same measuring stick. We should all appreciate our similarities and differences based on our shared humanity and definitely not by the color of our skin, religion, culture or bad choices our ancestors made. There are plenty of us that wish we were better integrated and have room in our hearts for everybody. It's the government and hateful people that we must all stand up to and fight together. The best way to show love to eachother is by example and by not continuing to divide people into separate buckets. Turning around people whose hearts are full of hate and fear is our biggest challenge.

Specially black and brown kids in America. We pay for the school system. The education system needs to be utilized better. There's 2 generations of parents in the world that don't know about the monetary and financial system and it's been systematically put against them at their inception.

      @MrBloom-mh4li 3 года назад +3

      You are correct. Although a good piece of news coverage, the piece was incorrect about stating that this is were the racial lineage wealth gap began. It actually began the day former slaves and newly US citizens were denied land reparations after the Civil War and during Reconstruction and also denied land grants during the Homestead Act, which was the largest government land give away in US history and in which an estimated 45+ million white Americans alive today benefit (wealth) from this very day (and this number does not include the New Deal and Fair Deal Acts that happened years later and these Acts also excluded most ADOS who were US citizens). Although many former slaves and their descendants miraculously were able to acquire some land, farm land being the biggest acreage, in just a few years, nevertheless, over time most of that land was taken or lost (schemes) or just flat out incorporated in other tracks of land without the legal ability or resources and most importantly government protections to fight back.
      These acts by the federal government led to practices called slavery by another name, such as sharecropping, convict leasing, etc. It just amazes me how much pertinent US History were not taught and are not taught in High Schools or Colleges/Universities concerning the hundreds of government created and sanctioned policies (and I am not talking about conspiracy theories) but pure on the record government policies (Jim Crow policies nationwide) at the federal, state, and local levels that basically tethered ADOS to the bottom (wealth) as a collective no matter how hard they worked or how much education they had. I use the term collective as a statistical term for most data usually have statistical outliers for various reasons and during those times, hard work (feet, back, and hands) was essential for survival but sometimes luck and at other times pure strategy (Madam C. J. Walker comes to mind concerning strategy) or just flat out being chosen by the white establishment for various reasons, etc. caused statistical outliers.
      This is why I say Black History Month is not just about individuals who accomplished great and extraordinary things which is awesome but also is about a SPECIFIC group of people here in the US whose ancestors SURVIVED the US Chattel Slavery system after building the country with free labor and whose very bodies were assets and collateral used to finance the growth and expansion of a nation and ENDURED AND SURVIVED 100 years of Jim Crow policies at the federal, state, and local government levels in the South AND North AND West) and yet we are still here.

    I am an Uber driver and the majority of the black passengers I've had is in the hood still. My black passengers have been my favorite passengers. They have not tipped me the most (they don't have the money to do so) but they have been the most respectful and kind hearted and easy to give good service to. They tip also as much as they can I feel. My city that I live in has been working on the housing for a while now I think. I have seen many brand new houses that have gone up recently in the less fortunate areas. The city seems to be working on this situation but I can't tell really for how long and how much they will put into it. I hope a great deal of effort goes into it and on flip side I hope during this process people get closer instead of further apart. Believe it or not it makes me very happy to see new houses and apartments for people that deserve best. I haven't been a part of anything to help the African community except trying to build a good relationship with them on my time with them. I have my reasons why I don't participate in any community activities and it's really quite a few reasons, but thats a whole different story.
    I can say most of my favorite people that have been in my life are black women. 3 that stand out because of time spent and what they did for me. One a couch, one a boss, and one a friend. They were all very good to me and no one else could top them with how they treated me. I will never let anyone take that feeling of respect and love for them away, no haters will ruin that for me. Its a tough world for me and I know the reasons and the silver lining with that is I can understand a bit of how the black community can feel so much resentment. I'm not saying I "feel" your pain completely but I do understand more and I do feel pain.

    Just the other day I was trying to explain to some one on a Huffington post story, the legacy of Jim Crow and his response was the same as the first guy, " Move on" . I really don't think people are able to critically think about how the polices of the past (and i am not talking slavery) i am talking Jim Crow, just how much it effects the present. My own personal story, I am 50 years old, and I am my grandfathers second grandchild and the first one to be born in my family with the full rights of a American citizen on paper , my sister was born in 1968 before the last Civil rights Bill was passed. To all those "white" people who may read this, I am not posting this to illicit any type of "White" guilt, I am posting this so people can understand we are not that far removed legal discrimination. What I find so hard to understand about this story and many like them, is the "black" Americans of this time paid local, state and federal taxes at the same rate as "white" Americans, "black" soldiers also fought in World War II but where unable to enjoy the benefits of their taxes nor could the returning "black" GIs take advantage of all the programs that other soldiers had, along with Native American, and Hispanic American soldiers. What we do about it, i dont know, maybe teaching it in a way that will help us understand why we are in the shape we are in today could be a starting point. But it will take Civic will and a cold hard truth willingness to talk about it. I just dont know.
