I don't know who needs to hear this, but remember that you are doing your best. I'm 100% certain that you don't wake up every day with the intention to make bad decisions and be an asshole. You're human and you have moments where you make mistakes. Sometimes you do them even when you know better.
You have faults. You're not perfect. Surprise surprise. But as long as you learn from your mistakes, you are improving and becoming a better person. The person who made that mistake in the past is not who you are today.

Guilt is easy to overcome. But shame is something worse entirely.
When you feel guilty for long enough, you start feeling shame, and it is no longer about what you did. It's about what you _are,_ and that is much more difficult to change.
It's no longer about "I didn't help them!" It's about "I _am_ such a coward..."
But dammit! One has to _own_ his own mistakes! One has to _accept_ that, yes! I am a dirty coward, a liar, an idiot! But I can't be an idiot if I try to become smarter! I can't be a coward if I learn to _do the things I'm most afraid of!_ I can't be a liar if I never lie again!
Shame is healthy in a sense. It makes you know there are things about yourself you need to change. And even if there are things you can't really change (like the _past,)_ one doesn't have to be held back by them. You can't fix your past mistakes, but you can _learn_ from them.

How does one get past that.

If you've realized your mistakes it shows that you've grown as a person. Make sure to apologize/confront anyone effected by you're mistake, and if there is a way to make up for it, then do. Move forward in life with you're experience and learn from them. Getting upset with yourself won't change anything. Everything you've done shapes you as the person you are today. So become great. Lastly there is always the option to go to therapy, there is nothing to lose so if you really do feel hopeless it wont hurt to try.

For anyone reading this comment section, the pain of regret is an essential one to growth. Some people are lucky enough to live life without many massive regrets or moments of selfish desire at the expense of another person’s well being. Just know that acknowledging that pain brought you here, to this video. That’s a step a lot of people in this world would skip. People that would rather make the rest of the world suffer and feel the pain they do instead of taking the pain they feel and turning it into the catalyst for improvement. Take a moment to acknowledge this very important step that YOU decided to take. Take a moment to be proud of that willingness to do right for the world, and not to do what felt best for yourself. Take a moment to forgive yourself at least partially for the people you’ve hurt or the damage you’ve caused. If you came here your heart is likely in the right place. Let that regret drive you to do better, but don’t let it drag you down because you deserve to live a happier healthier life.

I'm coming back now from a porn addiction after admitting it to my parents yesterday. I hope I can forgive myself and wash away the shame of it by accomplishing other things. I feel deeply ashamed but I can't change the past. I can however better myself in the future to make up for it which I hope to do now. For some of you guys that might have the same problem I wish you luck. I know you feel despairity sometimes trying to get away from it and failing but you can get away from it just like I'm trying to do right now. If you can admit it to your parents or to a trusted friend since not feeling alone and isolated will give you more power to fight it. Then work on the shame one step at a time. I hope we can escape this devil once and for all. Have a nice day.

Same. There needs to be a group for people like us. I mean, I didn’t lose them because of a mistake… I just thought they were my friend, but they just used me. I feel guilty for messaging them after they blocked me bc I had a panic attack and just couldn’t control my emotions.
He wasn’t mad I don’t think, but then I messaged him again while I was crying. I learned… I shouldn’t message people when I’m emotional. He was an a-hole and used me when I was depressed, but he became a better person later on. I still did some things wrong too, and even though he was worse, it doesn’t right my wrongs. I think he blocked me there too :(
I learned that I cannot talk to people when I’m crying or having a panic attack. I should just let my emotions simmer and accept that, even if I think his reasons for not wanting to speak to me are dumb, he still has that right. Just like when people don’t consent for dumb reasons, like because their signs aren’t compatible.
I feel so guilty, but I should take this as a lesson learned. I’ve had 8 years on and off of memories with him, all tainted because things ended on bad terms and I got no closure. I’m taking anti-depressants because of this and seeking therapy, as he was my only friend.

But by that time the person also started to became toxic so now we don't talk anymore. I was the reason he became like that. I made him cry. I hurt him. And all he has in his eyes for me is complete hatred. I completely understand his pov and yes this is what i literally deserve but what i regret is not realising my mistakes sooner. Not trying to understand him and always being selfish about myself. I loved that guy sooo much but all i could ever provide him was sadness. I'm soo sorry my love.

There was one time at work our shift lead said, "Everything is going to be okay" on a busy day. "Isn't that what you said on Friday?" I referred to a time she said the same thing and it all went terribly. She didn't answer, and I feel horrible.
What is the answer, if all of your redemption attempts dig a bigger pit for yourself? I've read books, practiced, leapt out of my comfort zone for nothing so far. What am I missing?

I apologized to her and we both agreed that we need to give each other some space for a while to figure things out. She said she’s forgiven me, but I don’t even know how to forgive myself I feel like crap for what I did. I reflected and cried about this all night, I just don’t know what to do from here on out.

Be thankful for you're friend to forgive you. If there is anything you can do to make it up to them, then do. But don't dwell on you're mistake. Everything happens for a reason and maybe this mistake happend at this point in time to teach you a lesson which prevented you from making the same mistake in a much much worse situation. Take this mistake and learn from it. You feeling bad about yourself is just a sign that you have grown from your experience and realized you were wrong. But getting upset with yourself won't change anything. Instead move forward from this point with you're experience and don't make the same mistake again. Forgiveness makes the heart stronger, and forgiving yourself is one of the most hardest things to do. But once you do you'll feel relieved and proud to know you've grown as a person.

When my Dad was ill. I always had bad moods about why no one was helping us, a few did though. None of his friends came. I was there, always by his side cooking, studying, cleaning , Tired, lack of sleep, couldn't go to class. Unhealthy meals. I always depend on the caretaker and was foolish. One day i went to church to meet friends, before leaving home. I left his breakfast by him and a note to eat. But little did i know, it was the last time i'd see him. Got a call from a family member, a relative. He's gone.
I realized, I was the one who killed him. Even though i did help him, I still feel pain from that scenario where it looked like he was asleep but he's gone. I killed him with my own ignorance. Its been 3 years. And still haunts me. I'll never forgive myself for that.
Now my guilt ends up hurting people i care too.

Wow what an amazing video! Something that haunts me isn’t necessarily something I’ve done to embarrass myself publicly, but rather just in front of one person at a time. I find it hard to socially interact with others and every awkward social moment is replayed in my head again and again. I’m really embarrassed about how I deliver myself to other people, and don’t know where to start improving on that. I feel a barrier when it comes to talking to others, and honestly, quarantine had only made me more socially awkward.

I’m having anxiety that’s affecting my relationship
I don’t know where to start, I’m a shitty person. Basically the night I broke up with my girlfriend, I was so relieved, it wasn’t what I wanted at the time, so I went to talk to my friend who’s also a girl and I ended up staying over with her because I didn’t feel like getting up. Nothing happened, just slept over. During my breakup period I eventually stayed over there again, this time even making out.
After a while I realized my ex is what I wanted, and we got back together. I am so happy with her right now. My problem is I constantly have anxiety thinking about my actions to her when I broke up with her.
I don’t know how I say I love her now, but did these things to her in the past. She keeps telling me she’s over it she forgives me, but I can’t forgive myself, and every day I tell her it’s eating me up. Spending the night elsewhere on the night of our breakup, where she was so upset. And making out with that girl weeks later, I can’t live with.
It’s so hard telling her I love her, but having caused this pain to her before.

People are trash in your life that you have to throw out as soon as moment comes, the problem is that most times you're forced to learn or work with that people, this the main problem. Just don't collect negative feelings towards yourself and others and move on and you have to ditch the people as soon as opportunity rises.
