  • After nearly 10 years since signing to her first label, Chappell Roan is finally blowing up with her first record, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" and her very first Billboard Hot 100 entry, "Good Luck, Babe!" Chappell's journey as an artist hasn't been the smoothest story. Roan has been dropped by a label, dumped by an ex and even was forced back to her home state. In this video, we'll recap her stunning journey as a musician. #theriseandfallofamidwestprincess #chappellroan #popmusic

    Her and Sabrina are honestly one of the few newer artists that hustled for years before finally getting their big break but you can see how it has paid off. Chappell’s music is a fresh of breath air in a climate where songs are so moody and angsty. No shade to anyone but a lot of household artists have become a tad stale and just a repetition of older music. Chappell brings something new to the table that has been missing. I have always heard of her but never dwelled into her music until recently. I will be honest, it took me a while to get into her music because I just couldn’t vibe with it but now I am hooked. She’s a modern day Kate Bush mixed with Lady Gaga but she has built her own identity. I think due to have years of making music and not becoming an overnight hit, she has developed into her artistry and knows the direction she wants to go in. Music has been needing some happy bops and I’m glad it’s someone who is queer because we need some representation here lol.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  4 месяца назад +9

      Honestly, yeah! I like the grit and awareness of identity and sound that sometimes crazy upstarts just have to find in the process. Chappell’s def someone who has Gaga and Bush and kinda dark pop influences yet still remaining vibrant!

      @@Mtv20O1 sure she makes “some” great new songs, but y’all are pushing it too far. she sounds identical to the “last dinner party”- just one of many artists. She’s LITERALLY bringing nothing “new” to the table.

    • @Mtv20O1
      @Mtv20O1 2 месяца назад +4

      @@LD-tn6ff I’ve heard the last dinner party, and to some degree, I don’t really hear the similarity. If you’re thinking with that mentality, then you can say nobody in the last 10 years has brought anything new to the table and that includes artists like Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae, etc.
      There was a dry spot in the mainstream industry of happy and cheerful tunes. Pop music had become moody since the start of 2010s and it continued through the pandemic. It wasn’t until late 2023-2024 where the bubblegum pop started coming back again.
      Sure, what she is doing is similar to the likes of previous artists (like I mentioned in my original post) but it is rare for someone in mainstream pop of the new generation to be making music like hers that is representing the queer community.

    One has to look at her newer music through the lens that it was created. Her inspirations are drag, camp, trashy, and just pure LGBTQ+ energy. If you look at artists of the past who were in a similar vein, this is great. We need this now, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. With the way things are going in the country, something not too serious that we can dance to, sing to, and perform to is cathartic.

    Tbh, I had already heard and seen “hot to go” but said no because of it sounded like a generic 80s revival with tacky visuals. Then “good luck, babe” consumed me. We were all fatigued with dark, sad, quiet sounds and she was right there, with Sabrina, giving us the break we needed.

    @joshlikesfries 4 месяца назад +68

    To be honest I didn’t know who Chappel Roan was, the time I knew who she was when she opened for Olivia Rodrigo. I think it is quite werid and fascinating how she seemingly came out of no where (atleast from my point of view) and it is quite telling how I haven’t really hear anyone calling her a “Industry Plant”. I guess when an artist does put care onto their work people can really vibe with that.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  4 месяца назад +35

      The truth is most artists are sorta “industry plants” and a lot of them wither. The ones that are nurtured and become our faves, they work their butts off. Lady Gaga had a similarish story, being picked up and dropped by labels and even having to perform at IKEA parking lots to slowly build a fanbase. In the modern digital (post social media) world, people don’t have to do that but the ones that do and succeed (like Chappell) they last longer tbh.

    I love this album I just think the track list needs to be re-organized here’s how I would’ve organized it
    1. Femininomenon
    2. Red wine supernova
    3. After midnight
    4. Casual
    5.super ultra modern girl
    6. HOT TO GO
    7. Coffee
    8. Guilty pleasures
    9. My kink is Karma
    10. Naked in Manhattan
    11. California
    12. Pink Pony Club
    13. Picture you
    14. Kaleidoscope
    Short reasons on this track re-listing: I think the narrative and energy is better kept up and told. Kaleidoscope being the closer is the only change I’m 100% sure of, it has the same modes of story telling as Guilty pleasures but it feels like the Kaleidoscope she’s taking about is the view points she’s gained in this song, rather than being done with a narrative she’s re-entering the cycle to her detriment but she has new perspective which I think is a more suitable ending

    Glad to know she's really catching on with audiences. I first heard her when "Naked In Manhattan" came out, which was a long time before Midwestern Princess was a thing, so I wasn't even sure she was going to have an album. The song was a striking introduction just because of how personal the verses were mixed with a more upbeat/comical chorus and her voice sounded so into every emotion. Compared to most pop artists, the song had a personality that was immediately memorable. It's amazing how long the journey took to her debut, but it also meant I was familiar with over half the record by the time it finally came out. Still, it's so much fun, and made my best of last year as well. I love Chappell and hope her next chapter is even better. If nothing else, that Coachella set was one of the best I saw on the livestream (love that "HOT TO GO" works like a modern "YMCA" crowd dance). It really comes across how much fun she's having and I think that's going to get her pretty far.

      I think her Coachella set was a star-making moment, her performance at Boston Commons apparently drew a bigger crowd than some of the headliners! She's really on her way to proper pop stardom. It's cool seeing someone actually build word of mouth and succeed on a slower path!

      She really stands out in today’s sort of landscape not to detract from the other girls but she has a unique backstory and vibe!
