- Basic but important.
there are some deviations to this that the pros might use for 3 part mixes but generally this is the easiest way to mix for the common painter. Scale Model (Hobby)
hopefully this answers the questions a few modelers have messaged me about.
when in doubt - follow manufactures directions to start
and as always,additional info /corrections welcomed. Авто/Мото
Dam Andy X you just Explained the paint cup so well and it was over 8 years ago thank you if you are still Alive Lol;
I second that!!
See I watched a Eastwood video and didn’t understand where they were getting their starting number, but this video made it clear it’s based off the amount you want in the cup and so it’s the number that you pick. Thanks very much
This was so simple, thank you for helping me finally get those silly markings. I was so excited when I got it that I showed it to my husband right away, and was able to easily explain it to him.

Hi Andy, Came across your explanation of mixing cup ratios and appreciate your video. Sounds silly not to know how to read a mixing cup like this, but have always scaled out my sealer parts by weight- a 3 to 1 ratio required because... I never really understood the cups! So as little of a deal as you may think- you taught me today how to read the cups! So Thank You! Have a good day fella!
+Colby Clauss thank you Colby
Very helpful and clear instruction, thank you.
My mind tends to overcomplicate things. So much appreciated!
Super simple! Great job!
This helped me so much first time auto painter here!
I want to thank you, that was a nice simple to understand explanation, I already knew the easy 1 to 1 ratio, but I am getting ready to spray a ceramic undercoating on the bottom of my car and it calls for a 4 to 1 ratio, and I have some PPG measuring cups but I did not understand the measuring numbers, but your instruction is very clear and I now understand, sometimes my dyslexia kicks in and I get thrown off on the measuring I was going to ask my neighbor who knows these things but I was a little embarrassed thanks again, It's to bad not every mix is a 1 to 1 ratio, like they say, "But knowing is half the battle' thanks again. now I don't have to go to Eastwoods site, they probably just would have confused me anyway.
Thanks mate, easy to under stand it's a big help.
wow...painting a boat, looking to get this as simple as possible, watched the section with the 1:1, 2:1 etc, thanx for helping!!!!
men watch so many video and ths guy is the only one the can explain thank you the best
good video man great information for new painters thanks .
excellent explanation. thank you!!!
Thank you man this really helped me out!
Very well explained, easy to understand as I know what to do to mix it. You should always use the same number when you fill up no matter what the mixing ratio is, but all of them must come with same number to get good mix. For example, your primer is 4:1, look at 4:1 on the cups. Fill up the primer to 2, then fill up the hardener to 2 to make it 4:1. Same with clear coats but the mixing ratio is different 👍
Very good at explaining it! Worked great

Excellent explanation Thank you very much
Yeah I'm a painter on a budget cause of my penny pinching customers,I use sandwich bags.I put it into the cup with a rubber band on top and reuse the measuring cup like a hundred times before I get a new one.
That's boss actually
I've always felt like a dummy when trying to figure out these ratio mixing cups Clearly I'm not a pro and I failed math in highschool. I still feel like a dummy, but one who finally understands it. Almost certain I do ;-) Thanks!
Lars,
You should not feel bad! I have a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and still was not able to figure out the markings on the container without reading the instructions on the Internet! Thanks for your appreciation.
