    This is 100% constructive. If you want a lighter bike, lose some weight. It's the best strategy. I lost 35 and it made ALL the difference.i have a 1991 XR600R plated from the showroom and love it. Great video.

    Great suggestions! Thanks for going through detail, including tire size. I’m still riding my stock 1996 XR650L Calif vrsn. I have GOT to remove smog. Love the handle risers, the front sprocket. 20 lbs lighter will make a big diff!

    I've done most all that.... just need to re jet it and de smog. Also install auxiliary lights. Leaving battery where it is since I store stuff where the air filter is. Pew pew. Oh and need bigger gas tank. 4.0 or 4.7! With stock tank I have to turn on reserve at 70 sometimes 80miles.

    Nice vid. Next add oil cooler, fork brace, mikuni pumper carb and rim locks. Im glad you warned people about that damn front stock sprocket eats the splines up. Ive got the MEFO Stonemaster rear tire in 140 size for my Florida sand/mud, Its a beast.

  • @zrig1
    @zrig1 5 лет назад +11

    Good popular mods. Weight reduction, toss the rear footpegs they weigh far more than the 1970's looking tail light. The only reason my taillight is replaced. broke it after looping the beast. Don't use the XR 600r front sprocket. It needs to be reversed and throws the chain out of alignment. Go with the Fritzonic. Best mod for this bike is tossing the CV carb over your neighbors' fence and transplanting in an FCR/MX flat slide from a CRF400R. Don't bother with Daves mods, swap the carb. The accelerator pump is a huge bonus. With the 14 tooth Fritz front sprocket it accelerates like a scalded cat ... 07 XR 650L ...

      Sheep Dog I keep my Rear foot pegs on for my girlfriend. She likes hopping on the back to scope out certain trails. I also ride in large groups and have them back there for a safety measure. Small price to pay really. I did not like the 14 tooth fritzco front sprocket even though I still have it. I also thought about the CRF 400r carb. Going to update this video soon since I’ve done more to it since it was posted.

      No I added to the rear took away from the front 15÷45=3.3 that's 3 rotation for the front sprocket to 1 rotation for rear
      Now 14 ÷ 48=2.9

  • @walkerskii

    Cool Honda! Excellent video! Do the bar risers throw off the geometry of the bike? What about a header, a skid plate, putting heavier front fork oil, red or yellow spoke sleeves, folding mirror & an oil temp gauge (in front of the gas tank)? BYW, your chain looks loose.

    I used to have a 2 XR600R and now I have 2 XR650R, unkorked and spring matched to may weigth, both bikes are really great, the 600 is a more forgiven bike for power steering or sliding ,is a very strong at low speed and low regime, suitable bike for newbies if you are tall and well experinced riders too, the xr650r is the only XR thats is not like the XR spirit, you have to have the agressive position for this bike to really be feeling it ligth, for me is the best bike to ride it on stand position, and in this position you go faster tahm any, and here the bike is like the 600 forgiven to any power sliding or steering. The XR 650R is a bike for experienced off road rider, you have to ride the bike, otherwise the bike ride you

    Trying to decide between this and a DR650. Sat (didn't ride) on the XR today and 3/4 of my foot reached the ground; could probably get the whole foot down with a lower seat concepts seat (6' 220lbs). 70/30 street/ off-road and will commute 40 miles round trip to work. Will probably rarely go past 70mph. Appreciate any help! Love the look of the Honda, but people complain about the 1st-2nd gear spacing. Suzuki may also be faster?

    Good review! Its winter here now and im doing a refresh on a old 93 of these i bought not long ago. It has some of these mods done to it, but it also has a Mikuni TM40 flatslide which im working on to try and get the jetting right. My bike has the stock headers which im a bit worried that are to narrow for the full effect of the flatslide. I’m also a heavier rider, do you have any suggestions for the suspension? Without having to rebuild the tubes and shocks? Lol dude I used to ride a yz426 race bike and I was actually in good shape. Then I grew up and now I’m a fat ass. I try to run and eat healthy but it’s hard with my lifestyle bro. I’m getting back into riding and am looking for a semi used 2012-2015 XR650L

    • @Dustytrails1221
      @Dustytrails1221  5 лет назад

      Those 426's are ok and are a bitch to kick. I started on a kx250 2 stroke, and was in good shape then too. I guess that's the life of a working man trying to balance all things. As far as suspension, if you wanted to spend the money on a pair of crf450 front forks that would be awesome but I would do my research. Honestly I don't feel like I need anything for the suspension. I ride this bitch everywhere from Carolina adventure world to Hatfield and McCoy's. For a big guy who wants power and electric start, plus street legal riding these mods will keep you smiling. Especially for the reliability and low cost overall. If you want a beefier suspension I would look into a motocross bike. What makes you think this suspension wont work as well for you?

    • @zrig1
      @zrig1 5 лет назад

      The suspension on this bike is circa 1993. Has not changed since the first bike rolled off the assembly lines. If you are a heavier rider you will need to respring the front end with possibly adding a gold valve kit. No two ways around it. Yes you can scour youtube and find videos of peopl adding PVC shims to the front springs but that is sketchy as hell. Get a proper spring rate for your weight. I am 240 pounds and the front end is pretty squishy. There is rebound adjustment on the front forks but it does little to reduce front end dive. Rear suspension is adjustable for rebound and compression. You can (and probably should) adjust the sag as well. I am considering an Upside-down swap ... using CRF 450R front forks.
