My parents saw Alan King on Broadway in May 1966, when he starred in "The Impossible Years". Ten years later, they discovered Dave at the Comedy Store, and then in 1986 became fans of "Late Night".
From the first Dave was on,,, I was hooked.,:)...
Paul as a sidekick and musician was infinitely better on the NBC show.
"Don't bother taking off your hat." No one bothers anymore even in restaurants.

I don't know when I really saw this, I doubt it was '82 as I was a kid then, but I'll never forget that blue screen gag.
