If you take the wipers off and the plastic ducting under them, you can pull that crossmember off really easily and it adds a ton of extra room for pulling the intake and everything else off straight up.
I have noticed too many people confuse fuel injector tick with the rocker tick/knock. If the ticking is subtle, it can get confusing knowing which it is. But just give it time, the rocker tick WILL get louder and you will know it's the rockers. I had a 2000 Chrysler LHS that made this noise from time to time. I fixed it by throwing some of that engine restore stuff in the silver can in there. Never heard it again. In the beginning, it's just a lube problem(not getting enough oil up there). So catch it soon and just keep a good engine lubricant in there along with your oil and it won't get worse.
Had the same problem with my 06 magnum sxt with less than 84k miles. Changed the driver side rocker arm assembly and a couple of gasket covers and new spark plugs. No more knocking and engine sounds just like when i bought the car in 08.
Oh and one more thing it only does it when I hit the throttle at a certain point but you when it's like not on throttle it's not as loud but you can hear it from the right side and I have the same engine as you in it
If u tilt the front of the intake up almost 45 degrees and then rotate counter clockwise to where the longer part is clear and the shorter side by the throttle body is a much easier clearance and u might need to tilt it a little more and get ur hand under the intake and a hand on the transmission dipstick- to keep it from getting caught or falling back in its placement in its. latch Oh and go ahead and spray ur throttle body with carbon cleaner if it needs to be cleaned I had a problem with the double threaded bolts on my throttle body and bracket getting threading out and not being able to tighten correctly .
Engine light comes on and we take the car to get a diagnostic. Result was a #5 misfire. We have replaced all sparkplugs and still the light is on. So we replace #5 coil. Light is still on. So after watching a video on replacing rocker arms for a 3.5L, we did a little more research and found out this is a common problem with the 3.5L dodge challenger. So we ordered the assembly, both sides, and gaskets. And after spending most of the day replacing them and getting it all back together, took the 2010 3.5L dodge challenger for a test drive. It idles really rough and the engine light came back on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Did you get it fixed? If be checking for power at the coil pack and then maybe swapping coil packs around seeing if issue changes also the sensor on the left of the intake can be a problem as well and if try moving fuel injectors around and seeing what that does if the engine is mechanically okay it must be electronic or fuel related
I don't think rocker arms would be the first thing i looked at for a #5 misfire code. There are alot of cheaper and more probable causes like a bad coil pack, bad plug, bad injector, or bad wires.
It’s probably a fuel Injector. Or what was it loll this is a year old. Mine was 4 and 6 misfire and I did the same. Turns out it was the injectors. All good so far
so…. mines is a 2006 dodge charger sxt 3.5L it has a tick, i ended up pulling the valve covers to replace the leak it had and i noticed that the drivers side was really clean and the passengers side was burnt, owner told me that he had replaced one side of rocker arm assembly which im assuming its the clean side, is it safe to say that the passenger side might need to be replaced?
I had someone replace mine because I didn't feel like messing with it. New new rocker arms , gaskets , spark plug seals. Almost 600 dollars and I feel like it's down the drain. Is it something else or could it be they aren't torqued right ?

Did you use mopar or one of those knockoff rocker arm assemblies? I ended up buying the cheaper alternative from China. I’m hoping for the best. 😅 Thanks for making this vid, It helped out with for tearing down my sons 300.
@@AA-fg1on The problem ended up being a spun connecting rod bearing. I changed the bearings in my garage. The rocker arm assemblies held up fine for 4 months until the car threw another bearing and we junked it.
i just had one that was hanging the valves open. I was thinking about just coverting it to solid. remove the hydraulic part thread it an make lash adjusters out of bolts.
10:00 It's a breeze to do spark plugs on the 98-04 3.5L V6's that came in the FWD LH cars, didn't have to remove the air intake to do it like you do on the updated engine in the video.

Just some hand tools and a torque wrench. I say socket and wrench sizes in the video. Honestly i would change the oil in your 2007 and sub one quart if oil for lucas oil treatment. It helps alot. The problem is the rocker arms get starves for oil, so the lucas oil treatment helps with that.

I've had my 3.5 since new and this sound started at around 20K. Not all of the time, but sometimes loud enough to wake the dead. I now have 98K miles and have never replaced them. (shrugs)
@@johnringoo756 run thinner oil in lower temps. any motor especially dodge ticks in winter. drop a weight, as it gets colder your oil thickens wich makes it harder to spread around fast enough. thinner will get it slung around faster to avoid that tick sound. had a 318 and a 360 ram 1500 and a 3.5l and the 5.7l typical dodges man it aint no thing.

Juan I use a bottle of lucas oil treatment when I do my oil change. Just use one bottle in place of a quart of oil. So one bottle of lucas and 5 quarts of oil.
We did that now it's shaking due to the cams not being TDC. The dodge repair manual says passenger side #1 TDC driver side #2 TDC that way the cam is basically in a neutral position.

Charlie Charles the part number i used for my charger is mopar 4892293AC. It is an updated part number should have yellow lashers instead of orange. Once you get the air intake off, rocker arm replaced, and air intake back on the EGR will just slide right into the back of the intake. i didnt use a repair manual, i bought a haynes repair manual mostly for torque specs. like i mentioned before DO NOT use the valve cover torque specs. i broke one following their guidelines. just hand tighten and quarter turn tight. I ordered my part from my friend who is a mechanic at dodge. He said they are now trying to sale individual rocker intake prices because it cost more. I would check to see if the part number listed fits your challenger, but if it is a 3.5l 2005-2010 it should fit.
I had this problem with my 2014 Charger. I don't understand why any of you would do this yourselves when it's totally covered by the warranty. I had it fixed today, and it's as quiet as can be. My dealer replaced all the rockers and tappets on BOTH sides, all the tappet-valve lashes and the intake cam on the right side. All was under warranty, and didn't cost me a dime! They weren't sure they would finish it today, so they even got me a rental. Dodge paid 35 dollars for the rental, and I only paid 6.

Sergio Castillo negative. I have a sneaky suspicion you might have a oil pump problem. Even if the rocker arms were ticking because its not getting enough oil, its such a little bit of oil that it uses it wouldn't set off a low pressure sensor. Your ticking could be a bent valve because of a weak oil pump.
My dude. There are 6 spark plugs..... v6 = 6 cylinders= 1 spark plug per cylinder. Not trying to be mean but from this question I would say you shouldn't attempt this repair.
45k on my 2010 and I'm disgusted. I can do it myself but my injuries don't allow me to so I can just let her tic away, or pay big cash to have it fixed, but was told it will come right back. Lucas helps, but no cure.

jtugfestiva no need to rotate the cams to TDC on know the manual says to do it but my buddy that is a Chrysler mechanic for 17 years said not to. Just unbolt and put new rocker arm assembly in!
jtugfestiva also word of advice DO NOT follow the torque suggestions for the valve covers. I broke a bolt into my head. no leaks, but all you need is to hand tighten, then 1/4 turn.
Chrysler gets a lot of Shit But they sure make some gorgeous cars. but the 3.5 V6 Has been their most popular engine minus some of it's Flaws it could've been the Best Chrysler Engine ever. That's my opinion I know but it's True with proper up keep they can hit 300k miles easily. The 3.5 fails usually from poor oil flow. One side the Rocker Arms will have issues Depending which Version of the 3.5
I buy nothing but Dodge or Jeep. My next vehicle is going to be a 2500 I6 Cummings turbo. They actually replaced the 3.5 with the 3.6 pentastar because of all the problems. Best engine they have made is a 4.7 v8. I have a Durango ive had 10 years and had no problems with it.
Hi quick question I bought some rocker arm assembly when I received it the yellow thing like the orange thing on your video on the lifter is broken but I glued it would it still work ?
Do not glue the lashers on unless you want the lasher itself and or the adhesive in your valves. There is a video with directions how to remove them. I would remove a lasher off the old rocker arm and put it on the new.
I have an 05 Magnum with the 3.5 and it started making this noise at 130k also. I've been putting a bottle of blue STP in at every oil change since it started, no noise at all after that and at 245k miles now, still no noise and never done any work other than PM and front and rear end suspension work.
willam tell Order the rocker arms from eBay and make sure at the very bottom that their the ones for your vehicle. You'll waste your time and money buying the part from a dealership, also it's best if you put the rocker arms on yourself, because dealerships will charge you a arm and a leg to put them on.
Most dealerships are trying to sale rocker arms in pieces and will tell you the wrong part # because of the updated methods in their method manual. They found it is cheaper to replace individual pieces rather than a whole new one. I perfer the whole assembly for ease of labor. Part # 4892293AC. The C behind the A is code. This is the third revision of this mopar part. Meaning they knew they had a problem but refused to issue a recall.
You guys need a camera on a tripod, not a cellphone. Your videos will be much better and your job will be easier too. Designs on the newer cars & trucks SUCK. Way too much removal to do a simple job. Edelbrock needs to make a 4 barrel intake for this engine or one for 3 Weber 45s inline fashion.

You have low compression in cylinder 5... you need a valve job more than likely

Makes me miss a good old 383 ! I had to get both sides of my 3.5 at just 34k ! I got rid of it after I found it was an interference engine.

I had an 07 3.5 charger. Put 170k on it no problems. Mobil 1 and motorkote worked for me. Pothead texter hit me and totaled it.
How much motokote did you add?
Were you able to move the rockers side to side just by moving them with your hand?

Charlie Charles the part number i used for my charger is mopar 4892293AC. It is an updated part number should have yellow lashers instead of orange. Once you get the air intake off, rocker arm replaced, and air intake back on the EGR will just slide right into the back of the intake. i didnt use a repair manual, i bought a haynes repair manual mostly for torque specs. like i mentioned before DO NOT use the valve cover torque specs. i broke one following their guidelines. just hand tighten and quarter turn tight. I ordered my part from my friend who is a mechanic at dodge. He said they are now trying to sale individual rocker intake prices because it cost more. I would check to see if the part number listed fits your challenger, but if it is a 3.5l 2005-2010 it should fit.
Jonathan Strong mine is a 2010 challenger so it should fit. Where did you get the Haynes repair manual? Does it show the bolt pattern also ?

I had this problem with my 2014 Charger. I don't understand why any of you would do this yourselves when it's totally covered by the warranty. I had it fixed today, and it's as quiet as can be. My dealer replaced all the rockers and tappets on BOTH sides, all the tappet-valve lashes and the intake cam on the right side. All was under warranty, and didn't cost me a dime! They weren't sure they would finish it today, so they even got me a rental. Dodge paid 35 dollars for the rental, and I only paid 6.

Its about 700 dollars in parts alone to do both sides, it's about a 2.5 hour job so I'd say about 1300 to 1500 bucks.

Sergio Castillo negative. I have a sneaky suspicion you might have a oil pump problem. Even if the rocker arms were ticking because its not getting enough oil, its such a little bit of oil that it uses it wouldn't set off a low pressure sensor. Your ticking could be a bent valve because of a weak oil pump.

My dude. There are 6 spark plugs..... v6 = 6 cylinders= 1 spark plug per cylinder. Not trying to be mean but from this question I would say you shouldn't attempt this repair.

45k on my 2010 and I'm disgusted. I can do it myself but my injuries don't allow me to so I can just let her tic away, or pay big cash to have it fixed, but was told it will come right back. Lucas helps, but no cure.
Use lucas oil treatment. Just sub a bottle in for a quart of oil (short it a quart) and just change oil regularly and it will stay gone.
Lucas upper cylinder lubricate is a waste of money. Lucas oil treatment does wonders.

jtugfestiva no need to rotate the cams to TDC on know the manual says to do it but my buddy that is a Chrysler mechanic for 17 years said not to. Just unbolt and put new rocker arm assembly in!
jtugfestiva also word of advice DO NOT follow the torque suggestions for the valve covers. I broke a bolt into my head. no leaks, but all you need is to hand tighten, then 1/4 turn.

That's my opinion I know but it's True with proper up keep they can hit 300k miles easily.
The 3.5 fails usually from poor oil flow.
One side the Rocker Arms will have issues Depending which Version of the 3.5
I buy nothing but Dodge or Jeep. My next vehicle is going to be a 2500 I6 Cummings turbo. They actually replaced the 3.5 with the 3.6 pentastar because of all the problems. Best engine they have made is a 4.7 v8. I have a Durango ive had 10 years and had no problems with it.

Do not glue the lashers on unless you want the lasher itself and or the adhesive in your valves. There is a video with directions how to remove them. I would remove a lasher off the old rocker arm and put it on the new.

I have an 05 Magnum with the 3.5 and it started making this noise at 130k also. I've been putting a bottle of blue STP in at every oil change since it started, no noise at all after that and at 245k miles now, still no noise and never done any work other than PM and front and rear end suspension work.
Would you be able to share an image of the bolt pattern for both sides?

willam tell Order the rocker arms from eBay and make sure at the very bottom that their the ones for your vehicle. You'll waste your time and money buying the part from a dealership, also it's best if you put the rocker arms on yourself, because dealerships will charge you a arm and a leg to put them on.
Most dealerships are trying to sale rocker arms in pieces and will tell you the wrong part # because of the updated methods in their method manual. They found it is cheaper to replace individual pieces rather than a whole new one. I perfer the whole assembly for ease of labor. Part # 4892293AC. The C behind the A is code. This is the third revision of this mopar part. Meaning they knew they had a problem but refused to issue a recall.

front right side of engine towards the top, mounted in the top of the timing belt housing, secured with one bolt.
You guys need a camera on a tripod, not a cellphone. Your videos will be much better and your job will be easier too. Designs on the newer cars & trucks SUCK. Way too much removal to do a simple job. Edelbrock needs to make a 4 barrel intake for this engine or one for 3 Weber 45s inline fashion.
