  • I document my first attempt to grow hydroponic pea plants - using the Kratky hydroponics method! Follow along to see how to grow your own peas indoors, under lights, with hydroponics. These plants are super fun and easy to grow, and as a self-pollinating plant, they are perfectly suited to growing indoors. See how simple it can be to set up your own bucket gardening system! If you have ever wanted to grow hydroponic peas, or grow peas indoors, this is for you!
    I was able to harvest peas from my plant considerably quicker than the suggested grow time on the seeds packet, which leads me to believe these plants love being grown with hydroponics as opposed to soil. Let me know in the comments what you think is the best way to grow pea plants, and what you think about my growing methods!
    Thanks for watching and happy harvesting!

    Any chance you could do a video talking about specifics on how you did nutrients? Like ratios and when you changed the strength of the solution.

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  4 года назад

      You can check out the advanced nutrients review video on my channel. I mix the nutrients the way the bottles say to do it and it’s as simple as that. I never check or balance ph, check PPM, any of that. Just mix in the ratios the bottles say and it takes care of itself. Next product on the market in my opinion for that reason

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  4 года назад

      I would top up the bucket maybe once a week as the plant absorbed the water. Never a full change out of the reservoir though.

      Thanks! I was able to get about 60 pea pods off of the plant in total if I recall correctly. They grow pretty quick- everything was harvested and done within 90 days or so

    9 days to germinate... ouch. With a heating pad mine sprouted in 3 days. I did the same, a tiny piece of rockwool with a little rockwool blanket on top... but I didn't put them in a dark room, they were covered by the little rock wool on top, so no light would bother them until they germinated anyway... once they had a tiny sprout, I rearranged the rock wool so the seed stayed moist but the little green shoot was free to reach up to the light.
    Just a thought for others, heat and no dark room... but my seeds were fresh, and out of 15 seeds I had 13 germinate.
    Try sugar Daddy snap peas also (you had snow peas there, they're excellent in stir fry or any kind of soup, plus eating raw) they are even sweeter and there is no 'string' on the edges to be annoying.

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  Год назад +2

      I have used two different brands and they are mostly the same. I find the Advanced Nutrients micro/grow/bloom series to be the most user friendly - it typically will balance itself to a plant friendly pH level, not requiring pH up/down adjustments. Amazon link in video description.
      All are good though, follow the bottle instructions.

      My plant did not regrow any pods I picked, but it did continue to grow new branches with new pods on them. Eventually my plant gave out, started browning/drying out in its leaves and I cut it down at that point. In my harvesting pea seeds video you can get an idea of how big the plant got and how it looked at the end

    how many ml do you use for your nutrients when is a seedling?

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  4 года назад +1

      I go 4ml of each micro/grow/bloom for all stages of plant growth. You could do less at early stages but I usually just mix one container and use it to top up multiple plants.

    Just curious, why do you germinate your bean seeds in the dark? when I was a kid we used to put them on paper towels and in a bag and in the window.

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  2 года назад +2

      My understanding is that this leads to higher germination rates. I think the purpose is to mimic the dark of seeds being buried in soil?
