    I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it looks like your plants had nutrient burn, most likely from nutrients concentrating in the jars from evaporation and being continually topped off instead of occasionally replaced (or topped off with just water).

      That's what I was thinking. Especially since beans are very light on nutrient feeding and being grown indoors I can't imagine the outside temperature making all that big of a difference. Although I might be wrong. Beans my just genetically be predisposed to die after a given lifespan. Harvesting does expand the life of beans when you grow in dirt, but they do eventually die. I'm curious if a perpetual bean plant is possible.

    Very often, the yellowing of leaves is actually caused by a calcium deficiency in the plant. I would recommend adding a calculated amount of calcium nitrate next time

    Are the flowers pollinated by wind or insects?

    Try using a 6” top hat lid on a 5 gallon pail. That’d be interesting to see how it turns out.

      Agreed it would be! Should be trying some larger reservoirs soon

    Why in the dark? I do mine on cotton balls in a 14 hours LED light. 3 days later I have what you have in 3 weeks? So you can make a 13 weeks into a 10 weeks live and a start harvesting also 3 weeks earlier.

    What is the strength of the nutrient solution did you apply on these bean plants? I plan to grow string or long beans hydroponically but i dont know the ppm requirements.

      I just follow the mixing instructions of whatever nutrients I purchase and that hasn't steered me wrong yet. Was most likely using the advanced nutrients micro/grow/bloom here. Just a base series, nothing fancy.

    With Gratky hydroponics, you're not supposed to top up the water. The plant forms air roots as the water level goes down and the water roots grow deeper to follow the water while the air roots get oxygen and moisture. Calibrated nutrient water has to be added, but not topped up, because the jar is so small. In a large enough jar, there is no need to add water.

    I've noticed hydroponic plants adapt to reservoir size where soil plants will circle their roots and become suffocated.
    I have a pinto bean growing in a coffee container and it's very healthy although roots filled the reservoir and stopped growing but is developing flowers .
    I want to try this experiment with a tomato

      Thats great! I too have yet to see any real adverse effects on the plants, but am curious what the limits are with plants like tomatoes, peppers etc. I just purchased some larger jars and hope to do a few comparisons

      The reason that happens in dirt is that the roots are searching for moisture, and/or nutrients, whereas in hydroponics it has plenty of both so there is no need to go out searching.

    Hey Jimmy. Are you still using the same nutrient mix you introduced in your May 1, 2021 video for the plants you're growing this year?

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  2 года назад +1

      I do still use those- future harvest nutrients. I also use Advanced Nutrients - their micro/grow/bloom series.
      I find the base (micro/grow/bloom) series from all these brands work pretty similarly. Just follow the instructions on the bottle.
      Good luck with your own plants! Any questions let me know

    Did you change out the solution at any point, or was it just topping up each time?

    • @JimmyBHarvests
      @JimmyBHarvests  Год назад

      I mostly top up, but occasionally if things get dirty/mirky ill do a total change

      The seed sustains the early growth but nutrients have to be added to the water soon after germination.
