- In this video, I demonstrate how to grow peas and show the full process including how to build a simple pea structure. Peas are the most wonderful crop and tasting delicious sweet peas straight from the pod, right off the plant, is an experience that I doubt can be improved. This is the simple guide on how to grow your own peas at home.

So satisfying watching those peas jiggling out of the guttering ❤
I like using my sunflower stalks from the previous year as trellises. They work well.
I use last year's mj stalks
Yo Mama You’re better than that, those are for making gummies and edibles in a magical butter maker with spent dry herb.
@@Just-Nikki don't forget to share
@@Just-Nikki could you please tell me more about how to make this cookie?thanks
Hempstalks ?
I remember these as a child. My Grandad grew them with runner beans. Best days of my life .
I found myself more fascinated by the scenery, the accent and the dimples! I had to re watch the video for the gardening tips👍
Love the idea of using the little branches at the bottom to get them started... I will definitely be trying this with other types of vines!🙌
Twiggy pea sticks always a good idea
You have given me ideas for growing my favorite flower - sweet peas - as well as eating peas. Really like the rain gutter method.
Thank you so much for showing us an easy way to plant peas and plants . Great ideal for sure . Happy '🤗😊❤️👍🙏👍
Just outstanding demo of great techniques - I can see the rain gutter method being equally effective for radishes, bok choy, spinach, pole beans, etc, and the framing structure for cucumber, tomato, zucchini, etc. Thanks so much for sharing!! Stay safe & healthy, eat your veggies to stay resilient & strong.
the big issue i have with the gutter method is that it takes much space. I've got a tray with 300 pods of an inch by an inch, which i can easily place indoors or in a little greenhouse i've built solely for quickly making sprouts from seeds. The extra warmth speeds things up by alot and after a week or 2, the pods can be pulled out without damaging the roots (much), you'll need far less compost to get things started this way too.

I don't use the gutter method for peas, I use it for Bush beans, in fact that's the best plant to use this method on. No spacing required just dump the beans randomly it down matter of there not spaced they grow fine.
@@AwoudeX Not really you just cut to size, also you don't need to use a full Polly tunnel or green house. Just put it outside covered in a mini Polly tunnel or clear plastic. Simple.
Peas be with you.
you really missed an opportunity not naming this video "Easy Peasy"
and to say "Peace" at the end
@@elon2 peas, out!
Peas like and subscribe if you found this video helpful.😅
I do this with bushbeans.
😄😄😄👍❤
Sheep in the background! absolutely beautiful
I've got lots of gutters in my barn; now I have a cool use for them. LOL!!
Absolutely beautiful pea trellis, and the pea gutter tactic is magnificent. Thank you, you are obviously an expert and your knowledge is very much appreciated.
Love that you work bare-handed, my Earth brother!
“If they’re being a bit naughty…” ;) So cute. Great video, great ideas and execution and stunning garden & location
You are a national treasure, I hope your people appreciate you! Thanks for all that you do, from across the pond in the U.S., stay well young man!
This is a FANTASTIC idea!! No more scooping plants one-by-one! Wow.
Well organised and maintained veggie garden, even down to the grass pathways.
This is one of my most favorite garden videos ever..Thank you SO very much for posting it. Please continue to share your wonderful garden tricks with us. You have a very lovely garden! 💗🙏☺️
What a background behind your garden! Beautiful.
I saw this method last year on a gardening website and really want to try it this year. I have the worst rodent problem so I cannot direct seed anything. One year I planted hundreds of seeds in a 30 foot bed and got a grand total of 5 plants that survived. Last year I planted out seeds I started inside and grew to several inches tall and finally had my first successful pea crop but it was so much work planting each individual plant. This will be so much more efficient!
Gotta get some barn cats👍😎
"If they're being a little bit naughty"... This is why the British are superb
I do the same method for Bush beans.
The "Christmas trees make excellent 'pee' sticks" was the one that really tickled my dirty mind.
I planted some peas last year and not one made it into the house. I ate them right from the garden!
Amen. My peas never get any into the house. Last year i doubled my peavplanting and still none made it.
That's the spirit :)
My kids invited friends few years back and asked if they could pick some peas. When I checked, they got all of them. I wasn´t mad since they were 7yo and they said they tasted wonderfully. So the next year, I planted a 10m by 8m field and invited them over again. Well, the field was gone in half a day again. Now it´s almost a tradition.
Great tradition@@bowlchamps37
As Jimmy Dean use to say, "bless your pea pickin' heart".
Beautiful...I've never been able to figure out how these natural structures are built, this looks easy enough for a non builder like myself. Thank you!
Hey Huw! The method you describe in this video is genius. I have added my own stroke of genius in the form of drip watering my snow peas. I could not find any old guttering so I purchased 1.5m of black drainage pipe that has a removable open grid top for less than $20 AUD. It has two open ends, and I put it under a dripping tap planted out just as you suggested on a gentle slope on a concrete path. It fits out of sight behind a cast iron and wooden garden bench seat. This method was 100% successful, as gravity guided the water through the compost that I used as the growing medium in the black draining pipe. In some ways it acted as a swale with the overflow, eventually finding it's way to watering a 40 year old everbearing lime tree a few meters away even though I put two bricks at each end to protect my little seedlings from being eaten. The best part is I can use it over and over again! Cheers!
Thank you for explaining so clearly and encouragingly how to get the bet yield from peas. You inspired me to grow more veg this year with the help of my child. So satisfying to spend time outdoors and learn new skills together. All the best for a good growing season and much gratitude for sharing your knowledge and live of gardening!
I love the rain gutter idea!!! Now I need a rain gutter haha!
Thank you so much! This is my first year growing peas and this helps so much!
all the desciptive english words that could be used but is "naughty" is always y'alls top choice
I do love the Alderman variety of pea. My garden is steps away from the ocean and many days are foggy due to marine layer. Couldn’t grow a bean here to save my life but this pea variety grows like a weed in these conditions.
this is the greatest idea i ever have seen. 😍 until now i did it with single containers... thanks for your great ideas and videos
The very best idea I have heard since the paperclip!! Thank You!
Please do share the update on this plantation as appropriate to learn more about it.
I just think it's so funny that willow is so freaking stubborn, that even a simple stick might root 😂
Thank you for your very clear and succinctly demonstrated instructions. Also, the final arrangement is very pleasant to look at---and that's a plus.
'A bit of a tidy'... brilliant planting.
Genius! Looks like a simple version of the paper pot transplanter in the way of the simplicity of sowing the seedlings. Great job
Perfect timing Huw, I'm doing my transplanting today. Will try rain gutter method next season. Hoping my support system turns out like yours. You explain it in a measured easy to understand way. Stay safe and well
Easy peasy peas.. I've got seeds and thanks to your no nonsense video I am confident to have a go. And I had no idea what pea shoots were. Yummy yum yum
What a handsome gardener!
Damn those green hills and sheep background is lit af
Thank you so much. I JUST planted some peas. Now to build a structure.
Never been able to get peas to grow after planting direct into soil…will give the gutter method a go. Thanks
Fantastic system! I love this as I love having peas in my garden. Thanks for a brilliant idea.
Thanks huw:) Great demo, the soil in your raised beds looks epic. Bet you'll get a ton of peas from that setup:) Good growing.
Huw! That is brilliant!!! Thank you for the great idea!!!
Love the simple trellis and twig/branch idea.
love the design and look of your garden
Brilliant! I've been agonizing over what type of support to use. Thank u!!
Oh, that is very neatly done. :) I'll keep that in mind for next year.
Brilliant! I was just wondering how to do this. Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.
I love your video's Huw. You ought to consider applying for a TV job, as you are a confident and knowledgeable presenter.
After watching this now I want to grow peas again this spring. Haven't really grown them in years.
Wow, this is great! I have never seen peas done like this! Thanks
I love it have had difficulty with growing peas and I am excited to use your suggestions. Beautiful!

Amazing ,cool tricks to help peas climbing
Thanks, very useful. Am growing peas for the first time, didn't know I could grow them that close. Gonna be planting more today. 😊🍃

Happy Eating Of The Peas! Too Right Gov!👊🤠👍
I absolutely love fresh-picked baby peas.💕
This was excellent, thank you! I am planting my starters now.
I also had wood rats and never managed to get peas without them going into rodent nosh so super idea God bless Jeff for this one. Like the extra string I have terrible cross winds in my garden some times.
Wow. That is awesome. I will try this in the fall or definitely next season. I already planted peas 2 months ago and have been harvesting. We love sugar snap peas!
Great ideas. I'm trying the rain gutter method. Thank you!
My 3 year old daughter helped multisows peas today in Michigan. Such a serious little counter as she made sure that each cell had two peas. ❤️
Oh my, I love your tutorials, you are great at tips.
Thank you so much! :)
Thank you for these tips, I see clearly what mistakes I've been making.
Very satisfying way to plant!
I love this method.. very inventive and inspiring.. will certainly try it this year.. thankyou..
Dude this idea is absolutely brilliant. The rain gutter was really the only reason I picked this video, thought yeah I got a few of those not doing anything.

Love. This looks like it will work for those with tiny homes
what a beautiful garden
Best station I’ve found cheers Bro 👍🏻
Thank you, I will be growing peas for the first time and appreciate this beneficial info.
Love this idea - thank you! I will admit to being a little perturbed seeing you standing on your soil and compacting it. I've been taught that that's a big no-no.
Oh great ideas! Good structure! I'll try all that this year. Thank you!! 🧡💚🌱
Wow. You make all this look easy.
Love that transplant method. Thanks!
Love your videos. Thanks so much. From South Afrika, Northern Cape... Winter is near.

Otherwise known as how to survive in the wilderness. Well done, Sir!
My library has your wonderful book!
Super helpful! Thank you so much. Yesterday I found an old gutter laying around in the garden, so I will give it a use. Going to try this today! ;)
The gutter usage is awesome! Save time and space.
This looks great. Going to try this method!
This is such a neat method!
Thank you for pea trellis. I had forgotten that I have a curl willow tree and used the limbs.
