awesome laps! but what many people tend to forget and neglect is control and maintenance when they send the cars hard in race conditions... even homologation cars like the gr yaris are just cars like every other car, and we must remember not even race spec cars handle that kind of punishment and are under constant extensive control and maitence after every single race...parts and fluids are replaced after every single race to ensure power, safety and longevity of the the car! unfortunatly many people buy a sporty car and think that the factory recommended inspection intervals are enough and then hit the track...if you are an amature racer that drives alot on race tracks especially such as demanding as the nürburgring that eats tires, brakes, and suspencions for breakfast, you have allways got to have a healthy backup budget to take care of your car and i would never track my daily driver without having a backup car... had to learn that the hard way!!! most of the time buying the car is the cheapest thing when your hobby is motorsport since most of us are not sponsered and have a pit crew to back us up! none the less great car and great driving!
Car has all the fluids changed every season. Other consumables like tires, rotors, pads are on demand. Drives around 5k kms per year, with 1500km of those being on track. Every 6 months does a visual inspection at Toyota.
@@GreatMotors that is all really great if you are doing sporty driving on b roads and the autobahn but wenn doing 1500km race track a year especially the ring, changing sparkplugs,filters,oils and other fluids once a season and a visual inspection every six months is not enough for the performance you demand from your motor and chassis...there is a rule of thumb when driving full send on race tracks that says that every 1km you do on a racetrack equals 10km driving on normal roads...so when you say your doing 1500km on tracks per season then the wear and tear on your car is the same as doing 15,000km normal driving and then the other 3,500km you drive per year you are actually way over the recommended service/inspection intervals of what toyota recommends...your easily around 8,500km over the recommended inspection every 10,000km ...and why i wrote above many neglect and forget control and maintenance according to how hard they push the car when racing! dont get me wrong what you are doing is still better then 80 percent of the people doing touristen fahrten, but if you want to have longterm fun without more risk then necessary of severe motor damage and such you should play it safe and do fluids,plugs,and filters multiple times per season...better more then needed then not enough! no race car does 1500km track racing without many services inbetween every race to motor and chassis except maybe during the 24 hour races!
before my father passed away we had a small private family owned worksshop and one of our clients was a man who did classic races with an AC Cobra and after every race we would give the car a full service and visual inspection...wich means usually about every 15 to 20 laps or 60 to 90 minutes of full send on a race track depending on the circuit he drove.

A couple of great laps, the second one must be one of your best at 7.48sec and I'm sure the low sun didn't help but there was not to much other traffic to slow you down, I have just got GR myself, struggling a little with the manual box as I have had Jaguars for the last 10 years, automatics (been lazy) I will get the hang of it, maybe one day I will feel confident enough to take it on a track.
Thank you! No power during a handful of seconds didn't help. But it was a nice lap. I guess a clean run would have shaved off a couple of seconds 🫡
The gearchange on these isn't great,mine is acceptable now only due to fitting a Verkline lower engine mount and Forsight short shifter,still not as good as my 95 mx5 by comparison.
@@grahamhaynes7658 Thanks for your reply, I am getting better now since I found the rev matching button not so much on-off the power in the lower gears, I don't think you can really compare the MX5 gear change (which is straight into the top of the box) to the Yaris as it relies on rods or cables to shift the gears, but as you have done there is always room for improvement.

Why the Click bait title, What's wrong with the GRY?
I don't know. If you watch the second lap you will see that it looses power for a hand full of seconds just for the error to disappear and normal power to be restored.
@@GreatMotors Thanks for the response. Glad it was not series and nothing looks "BROKEN" ;-) I've a GRY myself, so enjoy your driving skill in lapping the Nürburgring. Nice mods to you made to the brakes and suspension. Keep up the good videos.

Yes! Made a huge difference. The stock anti roll bars are too soft for track use

Hi mate I was wondering do you have the engine cooling under tray? You do a lot of track time and was wondering how you deal with overheating.
When does your instrument panel say, "Immediately Check tyre when safe"? Do you inflate your tires (tyres) outside the normal range?
It's because pressure is lower than it expects. This is do to me removing ar after the tires heat up on track.

having a GR myself i use 235 /17 what do you say about your 255 is there a performance plus ?
The car has an absurd amount of grip. Also 255 40 R17 is exactly the same diameter as the original 225 40 R18, which is great to not mess up the differential
