ABBY ABBY ABBY!!! if you want an indigenous fashion reference from last year, Quannah Chasinghorse, a native american model, had all of her jewelry and accessories loaned to her from her aunties at the MET Gala. She's an activist for indiginous rights and the facial tattoos she has are also legitimate. She's not talked about very much but I figured she would be important to acknowledge in the discourse.

I imagine that the Beard Brothers button had to do with the Centennial celebration of the town on the button. In the seventies, part of those celebrations included enforcing the defunct beard laws from the mid-nineteenth century. If you were a man who didn’t have a beard during the celebration period, you would be “arrested” and fined a minimal.amount that would go to a charity. I remember my father had a beard for a couple of months in the mid-seventies for that reason. I know, ancient history to you.

I had a button bracelet nearly identical to the one you just received back n the early ‘80s! I loved looking at those buttons and imagining where they came from…I was 7 and it was a hand-me-down, I thought they were salvaged buttons 🤣🤣. I bet you were an outstanding professor.
Sending good vibes for your house closings, both the sale and purchase, and hope everything’s “like buttah” so you get some stress relief.
You may appreciate my latest acquisition… a 125 year old Swedish “Slanty” spinning wheel. I’ve been learning to spin for a few months, and she kind of dropped in my lap, so to speak! She needs some loving cleaning and re-oiling, but that’s about it before she’s spinning like new, again. I’m so excited!!! (My son named her Brunnhilde, Hilde for short 🤣)

I am sorry about the puppy drama, that is not cool. As a cat mom with a feline who has a chronic health condition that needs meds and care, I have so much empathy for finding a vet while not being settled. All the hugs, glad to hear that meds took care of the situations for the puppers. These mystery boxes were pretty good. I worry about getting one with things I wouldn't be able to use, guess that is part of the game. Love the clothing pieces accessories hat/veil wow. Good luck with the move and new house, excited for you and your family.

Dear Abby. (hahaha hehe) I wanted to let you know that the selling/buying of houses and moving release the same chemicals in the brain as a death in the family. I am impressed that the white hat stayed on Abby's head the whole time. Good posture! I am always up for an unboxing of a mystery collection. In the early days of internet shopping (yes I am that old), many boxes turned out to be accidental mysteries and sometimes even a paradox (like why I ordered tissue paper but received shredded wheat cereal, we will never know for certain). Love that little shell purse. I would totally put it in my sewing kit with something ? In it. Maybe blunt large needles.

So glad to see you. I've missed you. I love your historical commentaries even though I no longer sew or have any historical garments. Of course I'm old enough that if I still had any of the clothes I had as a child or even a young adult--they would be considered antiques!!

Did you see Quannah Chasinghorse at the Met? She 100% understood the assignment, but no one talked about her, sadly. She looked STUNNING and had great Native American inspired style (the dress took inspiration, but from my understanding her jewelry was gifted from her aunt, who was a former Miss Navajo). If you didn’t see her, I’d 100% look her up - she looked like a goddess and her interview was great

Re: Brothers of the Brush - my home town had something similar for their 150th celebration in 1967. Facial hair wasn't big then so they gave notice early, then held a beard contest they also called Brothers of the Brush.

you showed the little houses and I was like "oh yeah, we have a lot of the dutch colonials in my hometown" then you said this was in bloomington, IN (not my home town, but very close)- I had no idea this little place even existed nearby lol. But it definitely has a number of styles that are very common in the little place I grew up.
