    Hey fella! I got one better for you that you probably don't know about (actually I don't think many people know about it, so if you feel it's worth a mention in future feel free) but a barbarian with the ring of flinging, tavern brawler feat, and the gloves of uninhibited kushido (all available in act 1) can throw water, oil or powder barrels for pretty impressive damage (5d4 + double strength) and make a surface. Once they have multiattack, they can follow up with throwing a torch which also does about 4d4 plus strength and ignites oil/firewine/powder. But wait there's more! If you're worried about carrying all those barrels.... I stumbled across a container in the underdark "arcane tower" area called the Chest of the Mundane. When you find it, it's full of junk items like forks and cups but if you take them out they turn into valuables. Thing is, it's not a one time effect, and if you right click and pick it up, any item you place inside of it will turn into a fork or bowl while it's inside... weight and all. Your barbarian gets a slightly hefty bag of holding that you can keep EVERY SINGLE BARREL you find inside to throw to your hearts content.

    1) theres nothing wrong with using a spell slot to create water, plenty of times you'll notice shadowheart isnt going to do much damage unless you respecced her into a more damage oriented role, in that case this isnt for you. this for anyone using a healer. you'll notice often times they get top initiative and wont have anyone to heal because no one is hurt yet, so you just make them shoot an arrow or cast guiding bolt or something. there is nothing wrong with using their turn to set up the *rest of the encounter* with a single turn. Think about how many turns you've had wasted just because your attack roll missed, or you misclicked and the game decided to waste your turn anyway, or the enemy makes the saving throw also wasting your turn. using your turn to cast create water is a guaranteed hit, cannot fail, no saving throw, it just works, and you get to pick the area you want to affect. This is god tier since it cant fail, and if an enemy counter spells, thats even better because they just wasted a slot that could've cast fireball just to stop you from making them a little wet. excellent spell. The complaint that oh its a wasted spell slot, so is any other spell you cast that fails or misses, thats DnD, at least with create water its never a wasted action.
    2) surfaces. this only works if you're meta gaming and know a combat encounter is coming up. if you're going to meta game and you already know what encounters are coming up, you dont really need any of these OP strategies because you already know what the enemy will do so you could easily just plant explosive barrels and OTK the entire encounter. These strategies should be general strategies for players doing their first play through that dont know what to expect, so setting up a surface strategy doesnt work because you never know when you need to do this. If you see a group of enemies and decide to lay a trap for them, thats fine, but you dont know where they will move or if they will even move into your trap, often times they will jump over all surface effects and completely waste all the time you spent making that surface trap. Also, the irony that he says create water is a wasted spell slot but shooting chromatic orb into the ground is totally not a wasted spell slot, clown logic tbh. Also you're telling people its totally cool to use up consumables *which are finite* instead of using spell slots *which you get back every long rest with unlimited supplies in the game* clown logic.
    Look. the reality is this. You can make them wet. double your damage. and win the game. GG easy. this dude is telling you not to use create water and not to use spell slots and oh no you're wasting an action! Listen. your entire build should be based around this if its what you want to do, its called synergy. So your entire party should be electric themed. This means everyone in your group should have lightning, cold, and water spells no matter what, this way it doesnt matter who goes first, whoever it is will have the power to create water, and if the enemy is too spaced out thats fine, because eventually they will move closer and then you can hit them with black hole or something to set them up so that your support caster can hit them with water. then everyone else has permanent double damage rest of the fight.
    This dude is acting like you should only ever have your main character do anything, which is completely wrong. hes telling you to use consumables instead of spell slots, also wrong. you can do it however you want, dont listen to this dude.

      This is a little harsh, but I agree that initiating combat with Create Water is very much worth it if your whole team is prepped for that. Still, this video is useful. I didn't realize that if you use fire on frozen blood you can create steam, that's genius.

      The water bottle crossbow method only cost a bonus action, so it is more efficient than create water, since you can get them wet and blast them in the same turn.

    Water is extremely op in this game. A high level druid can shapeshift into air elemental and make 3 electric attacks per turn. Apply haste on druid and water on the target and you will do 6x double damage. If the target is under hold person/monster, it will be 6x quadruple damage (elemental weakness + crit).

  • @15thobserver
    @15thobserver 7 месяцев назад +9

    There is one way I feel is worth mentioning left out here. If you run a Berserker barbarian in your party you can get throw as a bonus action. This is significantly better than the off hand arrow BECAUSE: Thrown objects are benefited by 2 key factors. 1. Strength modifier 2. gravity modifier. If you take tavern brawler on your berserker barbarian (which you pretty much always should), then being above an opponent and throwing a bottle of water, is roughly the damage equivalent to a bard using their main hand attack.

    • @resm-oe9ji
      @resm-oe9ji 5 месяцев назад +1

      The berserker could throw a bottle, but they would lose out on the damage from using an actual thrown weapon.
      Casters, on the other hand, don't have a lot of use for their bonus action, and the offhand crossbow allows the caster to inflict wet and then cast their spell in one turn.

  • @Blakobness
    @Blakobness Год назад +4

    You can circumvent a lot of the setup for wetting enemies by outsourcing the setup to an ally. Rogues naturally have great action AND movement economy (especially Thief), and I do this with explosives. It's easier if you can manage to hide the turn prior, as you can move in and out, pass enemies without needing to worry about attacks of opportunity. Get close enough to drop a container, and move away. You still have the character's attack and one or even two bonus actions depending if you're a thief and didn't have to cunning dash, which you can use to shoot a fire arrow at the enemy to break the container. If it's a bomb, the fire AoE will make it go boom, if it's water, you get water; and you're getting your sneak attack with either outcome.
    Pair your rogue and your spellcaster into a group so they can have the same general turn order.

The bigger elementals can as well--Water Myrmidon especially is amazing. "Using create water or throwing a water bottle is bad because it uses 1 level 1 spell slot and an action!"
    Look, you never really use level 1 spell slots after you hit level 3 since generally level 1 spells are terrible.
    Moving bottle around like that is just tedious and time consuming for very little extra damage. It's far better to just have a cleric, druid or storm sorcerer use their level 1 slot to inflict the wet status, then use the other casters to first electrocute the enemy, then freeze them with an ice spell. Generally, this will one shot most things since, for example, Ice Storm and Lightning Bolt, which means Ice Storm will hit for a maximum of 48 + 16 on a wet target, coupled with the 96 damage fron lightning bolt is a whoping 160 damage in one turn, and on multiple targets. There are almost no enemies apart from bosses and a select few big bois like Cortash's robots that have more than 160, but even then, at that point you have Cone of Cold and Chain Lightning, which is even more damage, enough even to one shot Raphael with just 2 characters, leaving more than enough space for 1 character to use their turn to case create water.

Have a familiar throw or attack dropped water in early game. Wizard can learn quasit from scroll and it can throw (Warlock pact gets it too obviously). Mage hand before combat works also. Later on, not a big deal if it's an action if you have two sorcerers twin casting haste to just cast create water, but early game will want to use one of these strategies.

      All depends on how you are plain m8. What works for you and your party may not work for others. One could also argue that attacks from a familiar are more valuable than a bonus action. All depends on what you got goin on. Which is why I tried to cover as many ways as possible. So no your no is indeed invalid lol

    Due to bg3's (and actual dnd) emphasis on action economy. You do want to squeeze every bit of damage and remove as many enemies from the battle asap so shutting the enemies before they can act is crucial. I agree that throwing a bottle in battle isn't the most optimal action if you are sweaty enough to bother putting it out first and have a mage hand throw it.
    But we'd rather have a martial with multihits throw a bottle to a crowd as long as the doubled lightning removes most of the threats BEFORE THEY ACT in round one than wait for a doubled lighting in round two. Don't we?

    This seems like a bit too on the min-max side of things imho and quite misleading as well.
    First of all you need black hole for you idea to work, every shot you have of doing max dmg is after having yoinked all the enemies together so a single water bottle can hit them, so for anyone not doing illithids, specifically rejecting the evolved illithids, this is not a thing they can do.
    Secondly create water is not only like double the range at base, but scales, so you can have a companion use a tier 3 create water and basically cover almost all arenas you will find yourself in, this cant happen for bottles.
    Third is water barrels, you'll need a strong ally to carry it but its way bigger area than a bottle.
    Fourth issue is that hand crossbows are not available really until end of act 1 - start of act 2. I dont think ive even seen a hand crossbow in act 1 so far, let alone 2 to get the bonus action attack.
    Just use create water. More reliable, only cost 1 spell and has the highest efficiency.
