  • Pershore Abbey has a unique arrangement whereby the bells are now rung from a platform surrounded by a cage high in the lantern tower. The visit was dated 3 February 2018 and the ringing featured is part of the start of a peal attempt of Stedman Triples.

I don’t think I would like to ring there at anytime as I am terrified of heights.

There's no way I could handle that climb in my old age, but I really love these bells! I learned to ring on the Rudhall bells at Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts, during my college days in the 1970s. Although this is a heavier ring, the sound of the bells at Pershore is very familiar to me.

at least with john's lane, it's just at the staircase and you're safely in the room for most of the time!

It's not just a question of being bad with heights. To get to the open spiral stairs you have to go through very narrow passageways, one particularly narrow, which triggered my claustrophobia and I scraped a hole in my rugby shirt against the walls. I have rung there twice but never again.

That looks truly frightening! Does it not move when you ring?
