- Devon Call-Change Bellringers On Tour: Pershore Abbey, December 2013. Footage shows a short clip of rising the 8-bells in peal, various call-change touches and concludes with a short clip showing the bells being lowered in peal.
Pershore Abbey bells are famous among bell-ringers for the unique ringing platform, known as 'the cage'-- which was erected in 1864 when Gilbert Scott removed the floor of the former ringing chamber to open up the lantern tower. The cage is suspended high above the chancel crossing; it is accessed by means of two stone spiral staircases, a walkway through the roof, a squeeze through a narrow passage and a see-through iron staircase. It's certainly not for the faint hearted!
Ringers:
Colin Adams, Scott Adams, Sue Ashton, Stuart Bennie, Steven Came, Chris Clayton, Suzanne Driscoll, Stephen Herniman, Tony Jeffery, Mervyn Langdon, Christine Ley, Sam Massey, Andrew Phillips, Graham Sharland & Paul Wright
Good striking on tricky bells! Quite nice sounding, good old fashioned sound
Bloody hell that's a drop!!!!
What surprises me is that there are no comments from " scientific " ringers. Many of whom could not aspire to ringing at this metronomic rate and accuracy. Splendid stuff
I have listened to several recordings of your tour and i must admire your immediate summing of of the bells and the needs to sort out odd struckness.
Most enjoyableindeed
Henry Taysom but we don't have so many broken ropes either, especially when ringing up & down.........
Excellent as always, some good video footage of the Abbey and cage and of course superb ringing on a good-sounding old-fashioned 8!
I rather like these, I always enjoy a visit! Great ringing, as expected!
Amazing!
That is a very long way up.... They sound like nice bells with superb striking, but would definitely make myself worried with the height!!!
Love to ring here but I’m a bit scared off heights
Bloody hell! been here like when I was three not to ring jus for a visit and I was petrified
I thought the same thing when i came a month ago
WEIRD TO HAVE A TRAP THINGY OVER THE RINGER'S HEADS
Nikos Podas its how they get to the bells
Dude that’s belfry access you dimwit
It would be too high for me :)
THE TENOR SOUNDS WEIRD IT SOUNDS LIKE A SHOVEL BEING HIT BY A STONE
Nikos Podas maby not that bad
The tenor at Pershore is a grand bell. Devizes St Mary's tenor is a bathtub hit by a shovel.
