👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
The entire, "From the Basement" Radiohead set is insane. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it and I'm still overwhelmed every time.
Same here, there are a few From the Basement sessions and they're all incredible!
Same! It inspired me to take up the bass, absolutely love it.
Its **so** good
Me too. It's the greatest thing of all time and as a musician in a band it's unbelievably interesting to watch them go. It looks like the most fun band of all to be in.
I was going to suggest him reacting to Nude
When Thom sits down at the piano in that song, I become a single goose bump.
Yep called goose bumps not chicken skin geebs!
and I am another
Ew
Indeed!
Same. He is the embodiment of Asmr for me
Honestly Geebz - the combination of you and Radiohead just makes me happy. You're a star mate
Seconded.
"Poetry for the soul".
Can't think of four better words to sum up Radiohead's music.
I've always said Radiohead speaks directly to my soul
8:24 - yes, Geebz. this glass sound comes from the guitarist Ed O'Brien. Furthermore, 95% of Radiohead's weird sounds and noises are in his department. Ed is very distinctive in searching of tones, melodies, and frequencies to cut through the mix. For me, he is a secret weapon of the band: zero egos, always serving a song, and always looking for inspirational sounds.
Aw, lovely Ed❤️
Decent vocalist as well
@@majorlybad very true! I also like the fact, that he improved a lot in recent years
95% disregards a lot of jonny greenwood
@@ralph9182 It's really impossible to give any of the band's members too much praise for what they bring to their overall sound.
To Be honest mate, it was you deconstructing Radiohead that brought me to your channel and becoming a subscriber. I await with baited breath every time you decide to do a Radiohead piece, as i feel you truly understand and appreciate their craft. Keep up the good work :)
Awesome, thank you!
me too! I've been watching his Radiohead reviews for the past few hour I love his astute observations of all the masterful nuances
All I Need is a top 5 all-time favorite song for me. The ending is incredible. In Rainbows is fantastic as an album as well.
i wish the outro could be like one hour longer lol
Am I the only one whose favorite parts are the verses more than the outro?
The way Thom's voice ties everything together in every song is miraculous.
Im still here. Every song on this album is incredible.
The best Radiohead album. Fight me!
@@StripeGurger Its not only my favorite Radiohead album, but my favorite album of all time.
@@TheAlibabatree Definitely in my top 25. I have a numbered poster from that tour on my wall. Every time I move it gets a little bit more worn but I'll never stop putting it up.
I can't express how happy this made me. This entire showcase, as well as the second one they did, are absolutely top notch, essential Radiohead. Their ability to pull and stretch your emotions in several different directions simultaneously is something very few artists achieve.
Cheers!
The ending section of that song is other worldly…a masterpiece
I kid you not, but Radiohead's performance of "The National Anthem" on SNL in 2000 is one of their best live performances.
Idioteque was even better from the same SNL guest appearance.
The entirety of the album In Rainbows from the basement is gorgeous. I'd recommend pretty much anything from that. Thanks for reacting to this!
I'm suffering now in life, but Radiohead makes life worth living, simply beautiful
I love everything about Radiohead's In Rainbows. It's in my Top 10 of All Time favorite albums. The history fascinates me: the free album download, the fan-made official music videos, the physical CD packaging(complete with CD tray stickers to create my own CD case), the Faust inspiration, tracks recorded in a haunted mansion, original versions that appeared years before the album versions, bonus tracks, Live From The Basement recordings... It's all fascinating to me.
On my first listen, I remember thinking at the time "this is gonna significant" and I immediately told family and friends to buy the album. They shared my sentiment! 10/10 album.
I love Radiohead's "the Daily Mail (from the basement)", I know you would too, starts with Thom on the piano, maybe you'll check that out?
I second this recommendation 💯
Only Radiohead would not put such a great song on their album.
Absolutely!!! Have to do this one geebs
I agree, this one is a must!
Bump!!!
You dont listen to Radiohead, you dont read the lyrics, you just feel it.
This song builds up all the meandering rumination into a pinnacle. It’s like it’s a longing that’s shouting.
You should do this whole from the basement session. Loved every minute.
Heard this song hundreds if times and everytime with Thom plays the paino and harmonizes, i goosebumps, EVERYTIME!
Sir, you need to review each and every song of radiohead in the basement performance. You will finally see how magical radiohead are in their arrangement, their musicianship.
This made my week! Emotional tug of war is what Radiohead does best I think. They have a way of swinging back and forth between beauty and dissonance, to the point where the beauty never gets sappy and the dissonance doesn't get too uncomfortable.
Jonny Greenwood (their lead guitarist & keyboard player) has a piece called Loop-- there's a video here of him and the London Contemporary Orchestra performing it. It's exactly what I love most about that emotional tug-of-war, how it can make you feel so anxious and uncomfortable and then open up into something transcendentally beautiful.
Since you're on a Radiohead kick - would love to see you do the video: Thom Yorke - Bloom (Live from Electric Lady Studios). Absolutely incredible performance and the best version of the song.
Yes
yes2
I absolutely agree!
I'd argue for the In the Basement as the definitive version of Bloom
I still prefer the Basement version over that one, both are incredible
The entire from the basement of in rainbows and King of limbs is fantastic. And having seen them live at MSG in 2018, they’re still magnificent musicians on record and live.
The King of Limbs is the best album of all time. Or at least it will be in 100 years time! So ahead of its time.
So very excited you got to the basement recordings. This is a great song, amongst some of their best performances here.
However, ☺️
"Bloom" from the basement, can't be recommended enough. It was so amazing that Hans Zimmer himself picked up the version for Discovery channels, Blue Planet.
Bit late to the party, but I was going to come here to vote for Bloom from the Basement as well. I've been listening to Radiohead for 3 decades now, seen them live many times, and I'm convinced it's the best thing they've ever done.
@@mindovermarrow same and true
I swear, this band has the power to hypnotise!. Love them. Great reaction, keep 'em coming.
One of the best live bands I've ever had the pleasure of seeing 👀 I've seen them twice and they were amazing both times! This is why they're probably my favorite band ever!
Been lurking and waiting for you to make your way to the Radiohead Basement, thank you for putting the song construct into words, you help me make sense of it, and it adds another dimension.
Lurking here also.. Waiting for Geebz's reaction to "the Daily Mail" from this set
I can't tell you how much I love your Radiohead videos. You seem to really like them so I was wondering would you listen to them 'off the clock?' Take care.
Yes, actually - I really do love their work :)
I’ve found Radiohead really helps is feel what I’m feeling between the vibe and the lyrics.
The Drummer starts wrong regarding the studio version and it's corrected by the bassist and Thom Yorke showing the 1 on 4 at 1:58
Where I End And You Begin from this same session and from the album preceding In Rainbows is amazing. Might even be my favorite from this session and I've listened to it countless times.
These live from the basement performances are amazing.
Please more of this - I love this. Radiohead live, especially this session is absolutely brilliant.
I know you've done the studio version, but the 'Live at Canal Plus 2001' performance of "How to Disappear Completely" from Radiohead is breathtakingly beautiful and painful. Even if not for a video I highly recommend it. One of the most emotional live performances I have ever seen.
This whole album is a must listen
This is amazing……..but it’s not ‘Nude’ by Radiohead Live From The Basement amazing🎶😁✌️
absolutely cannot imagine my musical life without some radiohead in it.
Brilliant! You should do reckoner as well off in rainbows from the basement as well.
This
"slightly pensive" ! that was a priceless description. Well said! the biggest understatement I have heard in a while when it comes to Radiohead . Love it.
One of my favourite Radiohead tracks - deeply dark and powerful song masquerading behind what is initially an easy listening vibe. Top class
SOOOOO Excited.
I highly recommend you check out Bloom by Radiohead! Whether it be the Basement version or Studio version - both are incredible. I think you'll really appreciate the song, and it'll probably be unlike many things you've heard before.
I second this recommendation!
It was so impressive, Hans Zimmer himself picked up the track for Discovery channels, Blue Planet.
It has to be the basement session I not only think it is better the visual aspect also makes it better it even sounds better than the over produced album version( in my opinion the whole album suffers from that).
Oh I'm early for once! This whole live performance is top tier
It really is a great performance
That entire show is absolutely incredible. The last 2 songs are jaw-droppingly amazing.
I didn't get Radiohead until I saw this live performance and now I can't get enough. glad you de-composed this one, man! :)
'A burst' is absolutely nailed on. Awesome as always - thanks!
Didnt see it yet but im waiting for a in basement decompouser for SO LONG im super excited
must agree that the entire 'from the basement' is just a stellar, haunting set. whoever does the sound for that set-up, is top notch. studio quality stuff, in real-time.
hey we haven't revisited jane's addiction in a long time! they'd be fun to watch you watch live. =) keep up the good stuff!
I know From The Basement is a Nigel Godrich project so I assume he is "producing" the sound for those sessions
Ah Jane's Addiction, one of my personal favourite bands, the band that make music that sounds like it's from another planet.
@@JayPhonomancer it's just so well mixed. thanks for the info, jay.
Radiohead - Go Slowly (Live at the Basement)
A song that really builds and builds is comforting sounds by Mew. There’s a live version of it on RUclips that’s amazing.
YES!
This whole performance is the greatest. I remember when it came out I was floored.
i just started the video and im already overwelmingly happy
please more from these sessions - they have two different ones...
Tracks:
Reckoner
Weird Fishes
The Daily Mail
Staircase
Bloom, Little By Little, Nude, Optimistic, Codex and really just anything from those two basement sessions.
That feeling of uncertainty (or "unsure" as you said) I think really compliments the narrative of feeling inadequate.
Great reaction my friend! Idk, if you did "Nude" already from this same performance but check it out when you can! Thom really shines in that one!
All I Need remains one of my absolute favorite Radiohead songs. I get goosebumps every time I listen.
The last one he did blew my mind. Live “free in the knowledge “
Today is my 50th birthday. Thank you for this 🥲
Happy birthday!
hey, I like hearing your thoughts on all of your reactions even if I don't always comment on every video. Hope you're doing well.
9:30 You are spot on! Even lyrics in the end (that I cant understand from his singing even when listening to studio version) are:
It's all wrong, it's all wrong, it's all wrong
It's all right, it's all right, it's all right
It's all wrong, it's all right
It's all right, it's all right
Love this. More Radiohead please!!
I'm still here, Geebz. I've been waiting for you to do something from the In Rainbows From the Basement performance for quite a while. It's probably my favorite live performance. Thank you. I've noticed Radiohead seems to put you in a trance and make you forget what you are doing, as it should. They always do the same to me. Best wishes. Thanks again.
The Daily Mail is short, but also outstanding from this session. So interesting. Great choice!
This song has LAYERS!
I don’t know how you can experience that outro without losing your goddamn mind…legendary…I love the chords on piano
such an underrated song...the layers 😊
I'm still here. Thanks again for your efforts Geebz
awesome reaction and breakdown of what you heard. love to see it.
Great tune! You said it! Radiohead songs bloom and implode at the same time. One song can trigger different moods on different listens. Awesome stuff.
I've watched this performance so many times. So good. In Rainbows too.
Always you grab your cup of coffee exactly in the right moment 😄
this is my very favourite song. hands down, of all time. i think this song saved my life.
I love the “From the Basement” Radiohead performance. Incredibly beautiful, especially this and Weird Fishes ❤️❤️
I’m still here till the end. Thanks for all your Radiohead reactions
Thanks so much for these Radiohead videos. Makes every visit to youtube exciting just to see if you’ve done another one yet! 😘
I’m still here! Have a good weekend everyone. Thank you Geebz
You always look blown away by Radiohead 🥰
Welcome to our world.
This is why watching you react to the songs performed Live From The Basement is so wonderful. Looking forward to more! Love it! 🙌🏻
Leave 'em wanting more. They'll listen again and again to fill the need.
You should check out Thom Yorke's (singer of Radiohead in case you didn't know) solo stuff as well. Songs that move me every time without fail are Suspirium and Unmade. He composed the music for the amazingly beautiful horror film remake of Suspiria and those songs just make some of it feel so powerful.
My favorite performance of one of my favorite Radiohead songs. So good.
Wow, for sure one of my fav videos from your channel, thanks!
"I'm still here"! Thank you so much for covering this one Geebz, and the Patron who requested it 🙏 I've been campaigning for this one from the first Radiohead video you made. I'd also like to put in for 'Nude', 'Motion Picture Soundtrack', and 'Videotape'. I think you'd vibe with all of them.
Yoooo I love this one so much. Let's gooo
Ahhh.. Finally!! You watching this and seeing all these details, I have dreamed about it for so long! Isn't it amazing?? More more more! Arpeggi! You are going to have so much fun of watching them move around!
Yeah now i see its the guitarist. Kudos to him. Fantastic
I can't wait to see you do so much more Radiohead. Please do "Jigsaw Falling Into Place," "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi," and "There There (The Boney King of Nowhere)"
I'm still here
the xylophone on this was such a pleasant and blissful addition
Greenwood playing that part
Actually, this is All I Need. It's so fascinating that I never even come close to getting tired of this band. They are always relevant, at all stages of life
Being a piano/keyboard lover, Geebz do you know the ondes Martenot? Jonny as played it at times as well.
funny hearing you describe Jonny Greenwood as their keyboard player :) he's also their lead guitarist he also plays Ondes Martenot and does the orchestral arrangements on songs that call for it. Like the stunning 'How to disappear completely'. He's also now an award winning film score composer.
i see you geebz. you felt it while listening. thats the longest youve gone without pausing. luv you man. ride that groove
I feel this album is really underrated when compared to OK Computer and The Bends. Has a simplistic yet complex production feel to it in my opinion. Really glad you've started looking at it.
Idk if it's actually underrated. As the person above me, I often hear In Rainbows being someone's favourite album from them.
I also would say that I love In Rainbows the most, although it's really close with Ok Computer. But for me, this is the most consistent album, perhaps even all time, that I've heard. Every track strikes a chord and is interesting in it's own way, there's no filler tracks in 'In Rainbows'
More From the Basement Radiohead videos, please! Great stuff.
I’m in love with this song
You are great with describing the feel of the song. I'm thinking what you're saying. I just can't put it onto words. Thanks.
His pain is authentic. That’s part of the allure of his music.
From the Basement sold me on Radiohead. They were supposed to be the most important band of my generation but I just didn't get it until I was up late one night in the late '00s and caught this on cable. I sat and watched the whole thing. I made me want to find the album, which is still my favorite, and then I found their other albums, and it all finally clicked.
Do more from the Basement! Please!!! It’s a crazy good set!
oh yeah! I will always remember when one of my friends suggested this as we were all kind of baked (lol) on the "weekend at the chalet". what a performance in this full concert! (the singer getting from one mic to the other, the guitare sound, and other things are just the tip of the iceberg! ) there are little gems in this for you to react to for sure! aaawright!
Codex and Bloom from Thom at Electric Lady Studios brings me to tears every time. And I'm not an emotional person. Daydreaming is also a tearjerker knowing the connection to Thom's partner Rachel's battle with cancer. I could listen to only Radiohead, or any of their side projects and be content with that for the rest of time. The Clock, Analyse, Unmade, Before your very eyes, Judge Jury Executioner, House of Cards, Up on the Ladder, I might be wrong, Talk Show Host....
Radiohead made three appearances on 'Later with Jools Holland,' iirc...worth checking out if only for the other artists watching on & thinking of calling it a day😁
I'm still here, great reaction :)
