A 308 partition projectile in the vitals will do the trick on Sambar with no fuss. 150-165gr is ideal.
I find it humorous how there's this attitude that Sambar will shrug off anything below 300WSM amongst grognards.
Learn to shoot your rifle I say.
Personally I have a BLR in 308 for my stalking rifle and a Howa in 7mm Rem Mag for glassing up and shooting at longer ranges.

Not sure how aggressive and dangerous giraffes are but i did have a chuckle that they are in the dangerous game category. Huge for sure but yet to see a video of them killing someone....but hey im probably wrong

Forgot to mention I now have a Swarovski Ds II scope to fit to my Sako 7 mm rem mag.. I plan to use it on Sambar for the long range trophies, and in USA on elk... But I will only load 140 gr partition, maybe 150... But i prefer the lighter bullets..

I need acouple. I have thick bush up the back which is state Forest but then on the other 3 sides I am surrounded by dairy farm paddocks which also back onto Forest. So i have already a 243 for fallow but looking at a leaver action 30-30 for thoes stalks and maybe a 300 wm for samber sitting on the fringes. Cheers.

Hiya im stalking/ med range shooting probably go the bolt rifle.270 Thanks for reinforcing ethical killing. .... .243 is min for deer in south oz i shoot for euthanasing and pest control .243 is the max i use always head shots, use on anything larger than big roos. Will either get a 7 rem mag or 308win in near future just to b sure i cover all situations i encounter . Do alot of varminting ilove my .223 and 22-250 200-400 meters for rabits and foxes, 12gague if im stalking em up close 22-250 and 243 use for longer range euthanasing jobs roos deer goats 55gr 22-250, 95grain bst bullets in 243 for those slightly bigger animals only head shots but can get away with heart lung shots if need be with243...... had a new tikka for a year and just ran in barrel and sighted in a month ago tried some diferent ammo and the osa bufalo river 100 gr sierra game kings shot well but also got really tight groups with winchester ballistic silver tips going with them for now as they have higher muzzle velocity.

The problem with heavier bullets is that they go through and explode after they exited.. Lighter faster bullets will deliver a hydraulic shock and cause more damage. In 308 I only used a 150 gr partition, and the sambar never ran, dropped on the spot. In .270 I use a 130 gr partition, and does a better job! I don't like venison with adrenaline!
