He's showing off, but he's right. The bass doesn't normally play the melody, their job is to keep time, and build the vibe. You sometimes get solos and stuff, if you are lucky.

That's something I've been noticing about Japanese bands, their bass game is on another level. They also tend to put the bass pretty forward in the mix so you can, you know, actually hear it.
@@Pit_Wizard i love Japanese music. It just does everything better than what's coming out of mainstream America. American charts has basically devolved to the same song with a different tempo key and lyrics meanwhile every Japanese song feels like a completely different wonderful experience even though they a lot of it is built on the same chord progression.

It's definitely up there but my favorite cover of Toxic was by Professor Shyguy. He was at an anime Convention, they gave him a panel super early in the morning, he had nothing planned so it turned into an impromptu acoustic show and the second song was Toxic.

The bass is like one of the most important parts of the band. If a band fires you for being too badass, they don't deserve you.
Well, the thing is bass is not just an instrument, it is a duty. I used to overplay all the time until an instructor brought me aside and told me, “you are great and I see you becoming very good in a few years, but you are a piece of the puzzle. Don’t listen to yourself when you play, listen to the band.” I’ve since learned a motto: good bass is like a comfy worn in leather sofa that the band all hangs out on. It kinda sits there unnoticed often but it changes everything, and a good bass player will stay out of the way while keeping the foundation interesting.
@@micahdeselms615 Very similar with drumming, while we do get our occasional fill, our job is really just to keep every on beat and be the glue that brings the rest of the band together.
Playing music in a band aint a competition between you and your band mates. If you start doing too much, you are no longer playing with the band but playing for yourself. It completly breaks the whole flow because you wanted some cool points. Now if your band tells you to do that cool solo then all is fine but my no means should any member try to outshine the other.

Ironically the vibe with Brittneys tours is amazing. There’s obviously dos and don’t but in comparison to a lot of other pop artist. Brittney and her team actually treat session musicians very well and always recommend them after the fact.
Apparently when she was under conservatorship she did an amazing job managing her tours and now that she is free it is said that she is a thousand times happier.
