Absolutely SENT IT !!! Met JA when he was touring in UK with Satch, brilliant concert, JA signed his CD get inside still have it played it to death. Krea Gata is unbelievable.
That is real good old and juicy rock. I am a fan of Johnny A since he published "Poor side of town". Listening to this video shows you why I think this guy is really one of the outstanding rock evangelists of our lifetime. Compliments to the drums and bass, too.
Phenomenal sound from these three! I've been a forever fan of Jimi, Beck, and Moore with Clapton being my King. I recently saw Johnny play twice in one week and he now wears the crown in my kingdom. He was a great guy to me both times.
A delightful piece! I hear early Cream, that's the Clapton influence and, of course, Jimmy Page, and certainly Hendrix permeates the entire performance. There are other influences, too, but not easy to put a finger on. I can listen to this over and over. Isn't he a great player!
Great to hear Johnny A. and his unstoppable rhythm section stretch out of their "normal" 4 or 5 minute songs. Awesome mashup ala some of Steve Morse's rock hero homages.
First time hearing this guy.. all three guys are SO in SYNC and feeding off each other each other and absolutely jamming! I think of SRV, Hendrix, and some Gary Moore. SmokeN.
My friend & I got to visit and sit onstage with Johnnie at outdoor hillside concert in Austin right after his 1st LP came out. Great guitar & nice guy too. Austin was still cool then....but now I hate to have to go. Glad to be in nearby Wimberley! And we got tons of music right here!🎸🔥
Over the years I've seen some of the best guitarists, e.g. Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Joe Bonamassa, etc. I must say that Johnny A rates right up there with them. This is some great guitar work. Also, what is the tune he's playing starting around 4:50- 5:30?
The thing I was noticing about his signature guitar is, other than it sounds totally killer and it looks just as incredible, it seems to hold the tuning pretty damn good. I mean he's been beating and bending the hell out of those strings and it didn't go out of tune
Leonardo Mirenda The Epiphone version is also really sweet. The Gibson is just amazing! I had the pleasure of meeting him recently while setting up for an in store demo, really nice guy and he sounded fantastic running through two Deluxe reverbs in stereo.
Happened to read your comment concerning the Ohio Players' "Skin Tight" and "Fire". I had a listen and agree that Johnny A. is referencing them. The bass riff used near the start is indeed taken from "Skin Tight". I feel stupid that I wasn't able to pick up on it but, then, the years '73-'76 I was pretty much out of commission for reasons difficult to explain. A lot of the music from that period is lost to me. I'm glad I read your comment. I've discovered the Ohio Players.
Teachering Yeah .. and then the fill/bridge bit at 2:45 is definitely from "Fire". He is referencing tons of songs from the era, right? The whole piece is kind of a mashup of 70s tunes... Jimi, Stones, Zep, Cream. He's showing his heroes. He's a fantastic player though. When I was younger I don't think I would have found him "shreddy" enough, but now I think you can just play too fast where your notes don't matter. When I hear Johnny A, everything is "hearable".. it never just becomes a blur. His playing is super juicy and tasteful. And what a tone! He is a "guitar guy" that I would take my non-guitar-fan friends to. But glad I helped you remember the Players! They are one of my fave funk bands. To me.. they are "quintessential funk". They have all the elements that I love. They have great vocals (I gotta have those falsetto harmonies!), tight horn section, the outfits(!), and great tunes. A guitarist called "Sugarfoot"! Titles like "Sweet Sticky Thing"! What else can you want? Other groups may excel in certain areas, but if I had to teach an alien what 70s funk was, I might start with the Ohio Players. I discovered them through Soundgarden! SG covered a OP song on their second EP in '88 - "Fopp". Red Hot Chili Peppers covered "Love Rollercoaster" too. And "Fire" is a tune that I would always hear talk-show bands play when they went to commercial. They are kind of a "tip" amongst funk bands. For the connoisseurs. :)
Teachering WoW thats awesome to hear......its almost exactly what youtube should be about and stand for. Making connections and discovery's. So cool to know you have an open enough mind and heart to even mention it......I remain positive about the progression of the HUMAN RACE....Peace
what a great guitar design. 25.5 scale. solid top, 1 piece mahogany hollow body. gibson have made a lot of strange guitars but this one is classic. could have been a 50s design. remenicent of a 50s EDS. Johnny A designed a great one and is a great player
Reverend Manta Ray or Tricky Gomez!. But this one is a unique Gibby. 25.5 scale. The sides & back are one piece. All solid old school wood. It is just a bit deeper bod than say a 335. He has a vid here on YT about how they (he) designed it. I am not fond of Epi's but if they ever make something like this even in a laminate I am so there. Actually the new inexpensive Gretsch Streamliner Jr (24.75) have a great vibe too. 550 with a Bigsby.
Terrific player with an attitude, met him backstage at a Jeff Beck show in 2001 and he was a dick even though I was complimentary to him. Not how you treat your fans.
I had the same experience with him. I met him at a show in Shirley, MA, said hi, told him I thought he was a good player, went to give him a simple handshake and he couldn't have been more condescending as he simply ignored me and walked away. Yes, a dick.
Another vote for him being a jerk.. A number of years ago he did a clinic at the Portsmouth, N.H., location of now-defunct music store chain and it was like everyone that was there was beneath him. He put the store staff in several really awkward spots with his attitude and demeanor. A shame, because he's damn talented and likely has a lot of insight to share.
You just have to think about it being a personality disorder of sorts, I think. There are several great players I've spoken to who were very approachable and easy to talk to like Albert Lee, Sonny Landreth and John Jorgenson, who were very appreciative towards their fans. Johnny A just doesn't give off that vibe and never will.
Sorry to hear that - really good music. But being a good musician also means being a good human being. Being a good guitar player takes a lot of work but it's also a gift - just like living. It pays to be humble. I had the privilege to visit with B B King once and was amazed at his humility and hospitality.
I was such a huge fan of him in high school and learned a lot about how to play from his albums. Got to see him a few times in college and he treated me like garbage. Wouldn't give me an autograph unless it was on one of his albums. I told him I already owned them... and the DVD but did not have them on me and he refused to sign it. I was like 19 yrs old. Never followed him after that... until tonight just to check in. Not a nice dude. Looks like he is up to the same old arrangements.
Caucasian nonsense. You can learn the notes, bends and pull offs but it’s just empty. Remember, if blues guitar solos are so hard why can so many 12 years play them? No grit, no fire, no lifetime spent on the chitlin’ circuit, no brashness, no raw sexuality, Just notes notes and more notes. Hard pass!
Absolutely SENT IT !!! Met JA when he was touring in UK with Satch, brilliant concert, JA signed his CD get inside still have it played it to death. Krea Gata is unbelievable.

All these guys are pros. The best
Sven Piechota I totally agree.
Ahh! Johnny A and his amazing rhythm section! Beyond Perfection!
Tone, Chops, The Whole Enchilada!! :)
Can't get it to go loud enough! Ron Stewart has popped up on my radar lately...what a drummer! Bassist is great too. This was great!
AYFKM?!?!?! WOW!!!! How has this Man stayed under the radar for so long?
You’ve just been over the radar-or no paying attention. Go buy his records.
That was a phantastic gig, I was there!
You were there?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You lucky dog, you!
Have seen this live 6 or 7 times never gets old !!! He play twice a year at the Tuppalo Music Hall in NH. Never miss a show....
That bass player is extraordinary. Well, everyone is.
Phenomenal sound from these three! I've been a forever fan of Jimi, Beck, and Moore with Clapton being my King. I recently saw Johnny play twice in one week and he now wears the crown in my kingdom. He was a great guy to me both times.

just found out about johnny a and wow
rock like jazz with a lot of blues and an original style.
I love the jazz influences with a bit of Hendrix, a sprinkling of EC and a little Page and some Beck. Mix them all together and you a very tasty band.
Beck!
You must be crazy.
@@bobreed7851 Crazy? No question about it.
Wow nice with new beautiful flavor. Great performances to all..
Great to hear Johnny A. and his unstoppable rhythm section stretch out of their "normal" 4 or 5 minute songs.
Awesome mashup ala some of Steve Morse's rock hero homages.
super
First time hearing this guy.. all three guys are SO in SYNC and feeding off each other each other and absolutely jamming! I think of SRV, Hendrix, and some Gary Moore. SmokeN.
saw him live, nothing like it. if you have a chance, take it

Fantastic player
That tone is CRAZY good!!!! This should be called the Jimmi jam!!!
This guy is just a fabulous blues player! Bought tickets to see him in Sept... Can't wait!
Love the respectful audience. What a show! Wish I’d been there.
HOLY CRAP!!!!! GO JOHNNY A.!!

Good lord, such huge sound from a 3 piece band! Great rhythm groove.

He's got a whole new band now. Incredible players.
Now... If he would add a singer!!!
Oh I hope not!
vechap singer? No need
Amazing player
Love this guy! Never heard of him?
Was turned on to this dude on my Steve Kimoch station on Pandora. Once again thank u Pandora 😁
LOL! I found Steve on my Johnny A. station!
I found all of the above on Jeff Beck radio Pandora...as well as Duke Levine, another unspoken guitar god.
Absolutely ridiculously amazing fiddler! Saw him live at Guitar Town at Copper Mountain, CO. This live clip rocks!
wow, what a CREAM of a trio
THIS DDRUMMER NAILED IT and makes Mr. A look good. I saw JA in Fresno about 10 years ago. OUT STANDING
Holy crap , he is incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding!
Totally AWESOME!!!!
Absolutely love the drumming !!
Ronnie Stewart, original drummer for the Joe Perry Project
great guitar player

I love it!!! Great!! Thankeee)))

+Keith Hoover BIlly Cobham
I thought that was I Feel Free from Cream
Yep. I Feel Free.
Oh Wow.......☺
The thing I was noticing about his signature guitar is, other than it sounds totally killer and it looks just as incredible, it seems to hold the tuning pretty damn good. I mean he's been beating and bending the hell out of those strings and it didn't go out of tune

Super.
Oh yeah!
JH, SRV, then beyond!
Johnny A is a Guitar God!
This is the riff from "Skin Tight" by the Ohio Players! And then the fill from "Fire" by the Players too before the solo. Hmm.

K.K. Smith I just tuned in for a few minutes, but I heard a lick of 'Age of Aquarius' too.
whoops I just commented that no one picked that up, and good catch on the Fire break too! Also intro to Age of Aquarius by 5th Dimension
make that Gibson & Bigsby howl!!! Love this and it's nothing new!
Johnny a all day
Johnny A kicks serious ass on this but the rhythm section can't be overlooked. Fantastic performance all the way around....
Ahh..the J.J.J Jam (Johnny playing Jimi and Jimi).
I think you meant Johnny playing Jimi and Jimmy....
what a great guitar design. 25.5 scale. solid top, 1 piece mahogany hollow body. gibson have made a lot of strange guitars but this one is classic. could have been a 50s design. remenicent of a 50s EDS. Johnny A designed a great one and is a great player
Gibson 335?
What song is JA doing at the 1:15 mark?
Sure nuff!!!
Tasty indeed..
Plays circles around every rock guitarist in history.
And that ladies and gentlemen is what happens when a person spends decades tirelessly and doggedly working to master an instrument.
First, is more Hendrix with the Gypsyes doesn´t it? Then in the final Page riffs. Jimis Jam
👍
Playing with the Yardbirds
Wittnessing his chops when he burns makes his slow subtle work (wichita linesman) all the more impressive.
Entire concert here www1.wdr.de/mediathek/video/sendungen/rockpalast/video-leverkusener-jazztage----johnny-a-100.html
Some one roll a join and whos got the wine?
Bring the babes this is the real deal..
Does Johnny use SG necks on his guitars?
Look out Jeff Beck ,Hendrix, even SRV !
Fffiiiii-yaaaaahhhh. OHP.
God help Us All "WHEN HE STANDS UP?
perfect, volgens mij is het david spade
Na,ilyen az,amikor három profi "összejátszik"!
I've never heard anyone twist Hendrix's riffs in such a unique ways, not even SVR and Eric Johnson!!! He plays Led Zep better than Page!!
Eric Gale does a pretty creative job too. You ever listen to his "Foxey Lady"?
Faaaa-ya!
What a beautiful looking/sounding axe. Too bad it costs so damn much.
Buy an Ibanez AMF73 throw a bigsbyon it, and some alnico humbuckers of your choice in it. Wallah you got the same basic makeup.
mano a mano They are hammering them out of China. Sad. 400 USD
You mean the fakes? I saw pics of them.. It really is sad.

They did, but... if you didn't order one already... They are gone! Epi Ltd Ed Johnny A
Wish Johnny A was a little louder with more presence - the drummer is kill'n - bass player smooth groove !
To my ears the mix is great for the venue. Don't need stacks of Marshalls here btw the cat has presence to boot IMHO
Say what? The mix is great unlike other live concerts.
damn, those cats can lay it down, no?!
Kumar (from Harold and Kumar) on bass. Rockin'.

must be a really white listening audience since no on'es mentioned Ohio Players' Skin Tight (what a great riff) in 7 years...lol
Nice filming...watch the musicianship first and foremost...
get yourself a goud mananager and com to europe on toer
