The salt water slip would look great as a knee length dress, i think shorten the one you have made and you will end up loving it more. The back of it looks fine.

Hi Angela. Loved all your outfits. You looked stunning in your Lea Dress on Saturday and I didn’t notice the creases 😅 I know what you mean about the saltwater. When the screen went from the gorgeous Kielo straight to the Saltwater you could immediately see the impact of the fabric on your face/complexion. It is a beautiful fabric and in isolation looks great on you but there was a stark difference when comparing the 2 fabrics.

Great video and so many lovely makes and fabrics. You’re bang on with the fabrics that you love which really suit you. I find it so hard to judge fabrics on myself and am quite often disappointed that I don’t always like fabric after I’ve made it up. Very envious of your trip to Poundbury. Have fun in Swansea and hope your daughter’s exams have gone well! I’m going to that area tomorrow too. Have you been to Lee Mills? Wish someone would open up a lovely fabric shop in S Wales!! Xx

    • @DevonThreadTales
      @DevonThreadTales  3 месяца назад +1

Aahh thank you. Do you have someone you could help you to choose fabric? Maybe keep a bit of a note of fabric choices when they really suit you and when they don’t - to try and avoid disappointment in the future. It’s so hard though isn’t it?!
I haven’t been to Lee Mills. I’m currently stuck in traffic on way to Wales so not going quite to plan!!!
      Thank you 🥰

Gosh so difficult to choose just one fabric Ruan! They’d all be awesome! I think the one with the monstera leaves and the pink, white and black are my choices for the Palmer. Now! About Stylearc, their instructions are short but they’re to the point. If you read them carefully, you’ll get it. They take the hand holding out of the instructions but you are not a beginner so you will be just fine! I’ve made a lot of Stylearc patterns, including some of the kids range and they’ve all turned out true to size. Just remember they use a 1cm seam allowance not half inch etc. I’ve never had a huge issue with their patterns - the one hiccup was with a polo top I was making for work (I have to wear BLACK and its boring and no dresses even more boring but I work with children in long daycare so it needs to be practical). The instructions for the placket on that pattern were confusing and I had to unpick and redo about five times before getting it right. You do have to be mindful of the seam allowances with the collar of the Palmer also as they may use a quarter inch seam to attach the collar. I haven’t actually made that one but it’s generally what Stylearc does. Can’t wait to see which fabric you choose!

I love all your makes Angela. I think the slip dress looks lovely on you but it’s how you feel in it that matters. Maybe shortening it and see if it makes a difference otherwise get rid of it. I also think your striped fabric would look good as a wrap but not the Kielo. You have made two different ones in the past, I think one was the Appleton, would look nice. It would play just a little with the stripes at the front but the back would be plain 😘 Happy 20th to Ellen 🥳🎉💐🥂🍾

The watermark striped fabric is lovely, perfect for a T-shirt dress! Maybe a Tammy Handmade Naya top lengthened would look pretty and casual. I think you just need to give yourself time to adjust. It’s really ok not to have a paid job 🤫🤣
Smart casual isn’t just for work! Wear what you like, when you like. Your me made garments are gorgeous no matter where you are or what you’re doing. Read a book curled up on the sofa in your favourite dress if it makes you happy- no rules apply unless we put them there ourselves 🤭😍

What lovely dresses. I really like your Lea dress and Kielo wrap on you. You suit the bright colours as well as the brighter blue dress. The Saltwater slip dress doesn’t fit well enough around the bodice and the fabric deadens your complexion. I think the clearer, brighter colours are much better on you. My favourite was the Lea dress.

    • @DevonThreadTales

I love your striped dress , your striped fabric, and the blue melange sweatshirting. Blue is one of my favourite colours. Atelier Jupe fabrics are fabulous. Your Lea Dress is gorgeous. I made a toile for the Tessuti Lois dress, which is beautiful, but I had so many fitting issues with it that it's been thrown in a box and ignored for a year. Yours is a lovely fit. Your Saltwater Slip looks great on you. The length is fine, although you have great legs and above the knee is a good length for you. Mid calf length isn't the best for you, but longer is good, too. You did ask :-)
I have really enjoyed Me Made May, both watching all the great vlogs and making more sewing time (which has actually involved ignoring the housework). The beginning of the month didn't work out so well, but in the last two weeks I have made three tops and two nighties. I also have another top, a blouse toile, and strappy nightie cut out, plus a jumpsuit, two dresses, a shirt, Saguaro trousers, and jeans, in bags with their patterns and threads ready to cut out. So, Me Made May may well carry over into June for me :-) I'm not a particularly fast sewist, I enjoy the process of sewing, and rushing spoils the experience for me.
Believe me, you are very young. My daughter is 50, soon to be 51!

You always look stunning in whatever you wear, but the black and white polkadot…. Wow, that was an absolutely gorgeous outfit! I keep thinking that you needn’t be so insecure about if you wear the right outfit, embrace your self more, you are beautiful!
My thoughts about the Kielo wrapdress are that it fits you perfectly and you need to make it with long sleeves, must be lovely and warm in the cooler months. Maybe you can alter the neck a bit, make it lower perhaps?
The Lea dress is gorgeous, the colouring and shape really suits you.

Lovely to have met you on Saturday at Andrea's. What a fantastic day. The Kilo wrap dress, I can't make up my mind about it, I like it but I am worried about the fabric at the front, would it exaggerate my tummy? I don't need any help there! I had just decided that no, it wouldn't, I will make one for our holiday in Spain, then you mentioned that it was quite warm! I agree with you over the slip dress, it does fit you very well and I think that it is the fabric that doesn't look quite good enough. A different design would be great on you. Thanks for doing these videos, but I will now have to watch your previous me-made May videos as I am so far behind watching vlogs. I may comment out of order! Take care.

Just mentioning you were doing an ironing board cover tutorial I’ve seen all your videos but don’t seem to have seen it. I either fell asleep or you didn’t do one. Can you throw any light on this for me. Thank you

Hi Angela, why not making a tabitha t-shirt dress from the blue striped fabric?

    Hi Angela,
Deer and Doe is now owned by Closet Core. The SaltWater Slip dress looks good on you. Have you thought of shirring the back if you want to make you next version a bit tighter (and yet comfortable)?
Thanks for your videos. I enjoy them!
Blessings to you and Happy birthday to your daughter (Amy?)🎂!!!

The new Sew over it dress is very pretty. I was worried tho...would it languish without buttons like the green one.😂

Ha ha ha - funnily enough - I feel it has now given me the confidence to finish the buttons on the green dress 😂 (still not done 🙈 )
      Thank you 🥰

Perhaps you should make a shirt dress with a mandarin collar (which I personally love) or make it in a funky print and colors to avoid the work(place) look. Also, your newest dress colors flatters you, and it has a slimming effect (waist looks smaller) on your good figure.

I think the Saltwater looks great on you! Would it make a difference it you either took in the side seams a little on the top half a little or took in the straps a little to raise it?
I actually have the exact stripey fabric you showed. I made the Sew house 7 Tabor v-neck, but I wish I had made the TATB Lotta dress from it instead. Love your new fabric, btw. ❤

Slip dress looks best slightly loose without ties

I liked all your dresses, the slip dress is not the best use of your colors. I like the idea of more woven dresses. I find that viscose is even cooler than most cottons. I can’t believe how hot we are supposed to be next week. I have been suffering through a blouse from H E double toothpicks. I was following directions carefully and using the correct seam allowance of 1/4 inch and I tried it on before the buttons went and it’s way too big. I am going to sew with some light weight cotton and see if I can find some success.

Aahh bless you - good luck with it and hope that you have success.
I agree viscose is definitely cooler than cotton!

Angela can I ask whether you lined the blue and white polka dot dress? I have a flowy rayon fabric to sew it up in and yours also looks nice and drapey. Did you need lining on the bodice and skirt to keep it's shape! Love this on you! ❤

    • @DevonThreadTales

Hia - no problem. No none of it is lined. Hope that helps. xx

I hope you don’t mind me asking…I would like to make some t shirts with various necklines, but don’t know where to get started…..do you have a top 5 or top 10 recommendations?

    • @DevonThreadTales
      @DevonThreadTales  3 месяца назад

Hia - goodness there are so many out there. it really depends on what sort of fit you are after. As a start I would say for tighter fitting T shirts - the Tilly and the Buttons Agnes, or the Deer and Doe Givre. For looser fitting - maybe have. look at the Helens closet Jackson Tee.
      I hope that helps ❤️

I think you are over-fitting the Saltwater Slip. Certainly on that busy fabric I didn't see that the back is an issue.

Listening to your comments about the Kielo dress and Shearer Slip, it seems to me that you have a small issue. I don't think that you are seeing your body in the middle, or rather the clothing covering that area, the same as we are. I'm not trying to be impertinent. To have a beautiful figure and I haven't yet seen something which you have made that doesn't look good.
