Fabric Haul from Jenny Stitches

- I visited Jenny Stitches and the Cumbria Sewing Craft and Craft shop whilst on holiday last week and went a bit wild with my fabric purchases! at least I did have patterns in mind this time 😁😁😁
Jenny's shop is gorgeous, she has a lovely range of fabric, patterns and haberdashery and is so helpful, knowledgeable and patient! I wish I lived closer than 4 hours away 😅😅😅.
The Cumbria Sewing and Craft shop is a complete Alladin's cave with loads of fabric including a lot of crafting cotton.
patterns mentioned today are the Cashmerette Stanton Hoodie, the Concorde T-shirt and the Mercier Jumpsuit. Simplicity S9614 polo top and S9052, parka coat. New look N6644 Cargo Pants and the Womens ABB Tee. I'm wearing a Cashmerette Fuller cardigan in Sew Hayley Jane fabric

Hi Linda, thank you 😊. Yes indeed, I thought I'd better raise the flag for us ladies who learned to sew on a hand sewing machine, when overlockers weren't invented and tailor's tacks were the only way to mark your fabric......I hated tailor's tacks 😅😅😅😅
Hello from Texas! Beautiful fabrics! I've made several polo shirts from that Simplicity pattern. It's a nice, easy pattern. It only took me about 3 hours to make one.
I love Luna! I have 4 of the books, and have made Luna and several of her friends. They're such well-made patterns!

I too have 4 Luna books and a lovely pile of kits, ready to make. At the moment, Luna, Wilhelmina and Freddie are on the window cill waiting for me to make them new friends, Hugh and Freya. And all of them are waiting for new clothes. I just love those little, perfect clothes. Just finishing a tiny tweed jacket for Freddie 🥰

I love, love, love that Jumpsuit fabric. And genius of Cashmerette to have a pattern for a jersey one! Plenty of stretch for dodgy fitting and buffet dinners 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don't think I'd have been that organised if I wasn't 4 and a half hours from home!!! Really didn't want to rely on a list of items, so I thought I'd take the packets in!!! Can't miss anything then.....famous last words 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Susanne, you are so right! the buying is easy.....too easy. I've managed to actually cut the paper patterns out, but as usual, before I can get going on my haul, another bit of fabric leapt to the top of the list and I seem to be working on a shirt that wasn't in the plan 🤣🤣🤣🤣😄😄

Oh Kay what a fabulous shopping trip and very successful purchases as they all look to coordinate - even your jumpsuit fabric, albeit too dressy for the yard but maybe suitable for dog walking…….🤪 Well I walk my dog at Windsor Great Park, so maybe when the polo is on…..😜
Now there's an idea for the Jumpsuit after the cruise 😁😁😁, I may pop down and join you when the polo is on....although the overall look may be ruined by my wellies 😅😅😅😅

Hi Ruth, Jenny is such a lovely lady and her shop is precious. Full of treasures. I think thanks to her, I shall be the best dressed dog walker in Bedford 😄😄. I cannot believe my luck getting that fabric, I would never have spotted it on my own.

I enjoyed myself so much getting that fabric, and at one point I was almost under control......then whoops, off I went, ignoring my list😅😅😅. But that's the fun of fabric shopping 🛍 😁😁😁

Thank you Angela, we are a bit short on fabric shops round here (Buttons in Biggleswade is my nearest), so obviously a four hour drive to Cumbria makes perfect sense! I'm wondering if buying fabric is actually a separate hobby to dressmaking, it's just irresistible. I'm loving that jumpsuit fabric, so glad Jenny suggested it, I would never have spotted it on the roll.

Yes fashion show!! I would love some cashmerette patterns but so expensive here in Canada $45 plus shipping for a pattern!!
I think a fashion show would be great fun and it will be the push I need to sort the tech out! I'm so sorry you can't get the Cashmerette patterns at a reasonable price, that's so expensive. I don't buy mine direct from Cashmerette as again, it's to expensive to post to the UK. Most UK online retailers of patterns, here sell them, but they are expensive compared to other patterns. Have you considered the Cashmerette Club? It's £147 pa here in UK and you get a free CLub pattern a month, plus access to all the previous Club patterns. Usually they are not available as patterns to buy in the shops. Let me know if you want any more info, happy to help x

Hi Bridget, yes indeed! some of the makes are shelved until autumn.....no way I'm sewing with thick fleece in the summer 🥵🥵. but I want to try and get the cargo pants started this week, once I've tackled the shirt I wasn't supposed to be making.....

Well worth it I would say. I am on a fabric buying ban until I have used some up. The Byron top by Style Arc is next to go with the Love Notions Caprice skirt I just made.

Fabulous haul. I made a trench Mac out of the showerproof fabric. It is lovely to work with and such amazing value. I do admire you sewing for the life you have- I get far too distracted by the new and shiny, trendy patterns…..🤔. I also have a top in the swirly pattern- it will be amazing as a jumpsuit. I have made the cargo pants pattern. It was a very nice make. The top loos like a good possibility in that same pattern as well.
I've just finished the cargo pants and I love them. But crikey they took a while with all that top stitching 😂😂😂

- [ ] Adjustment of tension on a serger is very easy. It’s just different! Learning to recognize what’s what is the secret. Some may need to thread in 4 colors to decipher.
- [ ] Upper looper creates “S” Lower looper creates “y”
- [ ] The upper looper stays in the top
- [ ] The lower looper stays on the bottom. They “kiss” at the edge
- [ ] The needles hold the looper threads in place .
- [ ] Remember LOOSEN WHAT IS TIGHT FIRST!
- [ ] . ALWAYS turn tension to 0 in when threading- tug on those threads before raising the tension - this assures that the thread is seeded into the tension discs.
- [ ] Thread in order
- [ ] Upper looper
- [ ] Lower looper
- [ ] Right needle
- [ ] Left needle
- [ ] And make sure to thread every thread guide
- [ ] Also the knife needs to be close enough to the fabric that when the fabric is cut the thread reaches the end of the fabric. If the knife is to far away the looper threads will hang off of the fabric. A serger sewn seam isn’t as tight as a seam sewn on a sewing machine allowing the seam to stretch
- [ ] I teach “get to know your sewing machines
