I will never forget how it felt shredding the keys to Freya on Guitar Hero when I was fifteen. It introduced me to The Sword. Here I am twice-lived now at 31 and Im still drawn back like a moth to a flame.
… The maiden sitting by her pool Was first to hear my pleas As she gazed into the water She recited these words to me … Walk not down that road I can not tell you where it goes Ask me no more questions Some things you weren't meant to know … The mother toiling in the fields Her apron full of seeds As she dropped them to the earth She recited these words to me … Walk not down that road I can not tell you where it goes Ask me no more questions Some things you weren't meant to know The greater mysteries Cannot be shown Divided by three The are the maiden, the mother, the crone … Finally I found the crone Walking through the trees She looked in my eyes As she recited these words to me … Go before the maiden Bow down on your knees Should you win her favor She may tell you what she sees The harvest is reaped Seeds are sown Multiplied by three She is the maiden, the mother, the crone
The Sword is a gift from Gods! Let it be said! Great songs real solid. I listen to their whole catalog back to back on the regular as if its one album.
This song now has special meaning to me. I recently figured out who my Maiden, my Mother, and my Crone are in my life story. (my own mother is the Crone (she who raised me), my wife is the Mother (of my children), and the first girl I fell in love with, and she with me, was the Maiden (taught me how to love another unconditionally no matter the circumstance, taught me what it is like to be loved in the same way, and what it feels like to lose said love. No pain, no gain). I just wish my Maiden didn't pass away on New Year's Day, because even though we didn't talk at all, I'll always love her.
Awesome.. never tire of hearing this. The Sword can drift out of my current listening with so much out there to discover and enjoy, but they drop back and overload you're ears with gorgeous warm fuzziness ...
Damn! Today I just woke up with this music inside my head begging to be played! I just had to hear it! This ROCKS!!! Cheers from PORTUGAL!!! Hope they come here soon! ;)
I bought these guys on vinyl at random at a Newberry comics and I never looked back. They are one of the best bands that ive listened to in the last decade.
It's possible that's where they learned it from, but the triple goddess is actually a very old pagan/neopagan belief, real people believed and probably still believe in a form of triple goddess. Maiden in the morning, Mother in the afternoon, Crone in the evening.
I had to play 1:52 to 2:12 about 13 times in a row. That's some dirty ass southern guitar and drum work there. It sounds like if Andy Williams quit Every Time I die and went to play with black stone cherry
The more I listen The Sword, the more I found them ADDICTIVE! Along with Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Meshuggah, and few others, this band keeps REAL rock alive!!
People don't know. This band was frozen in cryo-tanks back in the early 70's by the U.S. government. It was called Operation: SWORD. It was done as a means to preserve the awesomeness of Hard Rock of that era, and to save future generations in case shitty music was made.
Damn these awesome fools!!! When I first heard this song over at my buddy's playing Guitar Hero 5 I went out and bought this album put it on my iPod and set it to repeat. This is one amazing song, and this band is one of the best . (Of this age, of course...)
Makes me happy that there is still good metal being made today versus all those shitty screamo/emo death metal poser bands that everyone seems to be listening to
Could it be the circle is once again turning? I had worried that my favorite bands like Rush, Sabbath and Zeppelin were a thing of by gone days. Now I have found they got together and had a love child together named THE SWORD! I am 43 and have been turning my step son onto Rush, Floyd, Zeppelin and Sabbath. He always says how there is nothing good these days that is near the same quality. Now he is blown away to find the guys shredding ass, and frankly SO AM I! Thank You The Sword, ROCK ON!!!
If you've heard of Asatru Paganism, it IS Norse. Odin, Thor, the lands of Asgard, Midgard (NOT the one in Final Fantasy but the one in the Norse lands), Loki, Freyja, Valhalla, and the battle of Ragnarok. Read a book on the subject matter and you might see this. The song is in fact about the Pagan Triple Goddess. Reading books about the subject may help you understand better. If the video were How Heavy This Axe or one of the other songs, then the comments would be different.
Great band... saw them in Raleigh at the old Kings location (2006?) We were maybe 5 feet away. Banged my head the whole time and have been a fan since 🔥🤘
Wow, this never ceases to amaze me. Why in the world are you watching this if you don't like it. All you are doing is ruining the video for everyone else. If you don't like it, go watch something you do like. I hate to have to introduce a new concept to you.
They did! lol They got a new drummer years ago, Warp Riders and after is all Santiago "Jimmy" Vela drumming, and he was the best thing that could have happen to The Sword! listen to warp riders or apocryphon and you can really hear a difference in the cymbals
Cymbals rock, fruitcake....You sound like someones Mom that they took to a concert. How about you change your name to Mother'sCommemorativeSpoonCollection and call it good.
not all comments like that are Trolling...Im a dick and shouldnt be labeled as someone "starting shit" just because i have an opinion. so THanks? and your welcome.
just announced these guys are playing a show 15 minutes from my house in May, will be my 2nd time seeing them, cant wait, sittin here introducing my 10 year old to GOOD BANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just saw these guys perform this song live in Milwaukee last night. Epic show...do go to see these guys if you get a chance. Worth every cent. Right now they are on tour with Clutch...double bonus!
This reminds me of old school metal that I grew up on. Bought this album a few minutes after playing this song on guitar hero 5. Heavy Guitars great drum work no crap. Keep making them like this and I will br back for more.
Thought the same thing a few years back when my girlfriend said "hey, You should hear these guys..they're right up your alley." Been hooked ever since.
i have commented on it before and here i go again....these guys are amazing....and to beat it all...there talented HUH what is talent well these guys have talent for sure and step back into the 50's,60's and 70's 80's...and even the 90's you will hear talent...what happened in 99 at twelve o clock midnight wasn't a power outage...apparently it was the death of real music.....but there is hope and these guys are proof.....
I'm seeing them with the mighty MetallicA in 2 days from now. excited to see the Sword, cool band and great songs. specially I love the classic rock touch in their songs! reminds me of Black sabbath...
Cool band they have a Black Sabbath style sound , definitely going to check out more songs by them . Southern metal music is awesome I have a lot of bands on my I tunes on my phone

The Sword freely admits Black Sabbath was a big influence for them. Us Metalheads recognize Black Sabbath is the gospel truth for heavy metal. Wolfmother is a spawn of that truth. So is The Sword. All of us metalheads should rejoice in the truth of Sabbath and all that it has spawned to us 30-40 years later and that includes The Sword and Wolfmother and Red Fang and Lamb Of God and there are verified accounts of other metal band influenced by the gospel truth of Black Sabbath such as "the biggest heavy metal bands of the 1980s and 1990s, like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, Guns n Roses, and even grunge bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden, have all been influenced by Black Sabbath". We are all one big dysfunctional family with one thing in common. We like our music unapologetically fast and in your face. Long live rock. Long live heavy metal!
The way they do this song you'd think they were a '70s to early '80s band, and yet, this song wasn't made too long ago. They did an amazing job resurrecting a genre that people said died a long time ago.
Saw them last night for the 4th time, amazing. They didn't play this song though, bummer. They did play several new unreleased tunes, you all will be blown away, the really rock!
they do all the riff , sounds and stuff i like to hear or play on the guitar!!! i have a similar style to them, im glad to hear them, they will inspire me
This might be the most underrated band on planet earth.
Saw them open for Primus. They blew Primus out of the water.
@@Eric06410 I could believe that, I seen them open for ZZ top in Austin TX and did the same.
for sure one of the most underrated bands to ever exist.
One of them for sure
Hell yeah, and they broke up!, DAMMIT MAN

Same! GH brought me to a lot of good bands I didn’t know about!
Dude u just unlocked a core memory right there
I forgot they were on that game
They was too heavy for me I was a lil younger lol
These guys have a sort of 70's/80's sound. Love it.
It's a freaking crime that this doesn't have a 1,000,000 views.
Timothy Brannan ikr
Yeah
Timothy Brannan they are pretty close though
Doon't worry, for two days will be a million views thanks to me ;)

… The maiden sitting by her pool
Was first to hear my pleas
As she gazed into the water
She recited these words to me
… Walk not down that road
I can not tell you where it goes
Ask me no more questions
Some things you weren't meant to know
… The mother toiling in the fields
Her apron full of seeds
As she dropped them to the earth
She recited these words to me
… Walk not down that road
I can not tell you where it goes
Ask me no more questions
Some things you weren't meant to know
The greater mysteries
Cannot be shown
Divided by three
The are the maiden, the mother, the crone
… Finally I found the crone
Walking through the trees
She looked in my eyes
As she recited these words to me
… Go before the maiden
Bow down on your knees
Should you win her favor
She may tell you what she sees
The harvest is reaped
Seeds are sown
Multiplied by three
She is the maiden, the mother, the crone
I FREAKING LOVE THE SWORD!!!!! This is the type of music that MODERN METAL truly needs....A great throwback band to SABBATH! LOVE THE SWORD!!!!!
No more ghost and slipknot pls
Minus Ozzy vocals. Dude can’t sing just like Mustaine
When you look at these guys and listen to their sound, you instantly know that they friki'n loved Black Sabbath!
Pure, unadultrated, face-melting, ball-crushing, bowel-busting, jugular-popping metal.
Hail The Sword
Head banging not to forget
I saw them a few years ago with Clutch. It was the best small venue concert I've ever been to.
Same here. Jan. 2014(?) in Jacksonville.
That sounds like a supergroup to me
I saw them open for Metallica a couple years ago. I had no idea who they were and when I heard them play I was an instant fan. Awesome!
Trey Gilmore ...... that’s a fucking insane ticket man. I wouldn’t have survived.
Epic
These guys are the reincarnation of good old fashioned 70's era hard rock. Love it!
Best there is
The world was not ready for The Sword.
How have I not heard or heard of this band during my stay on this planet.... Shaaaame
+coitinsforyourocky One of the greatest new sensation from 2007...I fuckin love this band
I only heard of them because of Guitar Hero.
The Sword is a gift from Gods! Let it be said! Great songs real solid. I listen to their whole catalog back to back on the regular as if its one album.
these guys are what wolfmother wishes they could have been
+RhythmGrizz uuhm.. what? wolfmother are freaking amazing
+Badmotorfinger112 yeah, I like them too.
+Phillip hanna They're tied for me! the sword has more albums though
And Black Sabbath is what The Sword wish he could be :^)
I love these guys and wolfmother and be glad brother for this kind of variety in this day an age is rare indeed!!
No speakers on Earth get loud enough for this song.
im glad the classic genres live on because of bands like these...
I love the fact its sounds classic but isn't.
deerdestroyer2009 Sons of Black Sabbath.
@@IanIsrael It's going to be a future classic then!
The Sword is timeless man.
I know it almost sounds like pentagram
The "old but new" sound. How original huh
Can't stop watching it again and again...
That explains the views to likes ratio
46 people had their faces melted by this song and couldn't see the like button, so they hit dislike on accident.
+Xavier Morrissey That better be the case...
+Xavier Morrissey 5 more got burned by Tears of Fire.
Amen Brother :)
no no ,51 people liked this video so much thay flipped there phones up side down and liked again😁😁😁😁
hell fucking right!

Man, that's the power of music.
Hecate embodies it all.🙏😎🌾🍁🌌
@Seth Fineberg interesting. Also a fun fact, GRRM took his name for "the seven" because it is a number that appears on page 7 of the Silmarillion.
Strong words, pretty nice inspiration
Awesome.. never tire of hearing this. The Sword can drift out of my current listening with so much out there to discover and enjoy, but they drop back and overload you're ears with gorgeous warm fuzziness ...

My Favourite band of this Century
gotta love George R R Martin, thank you for the inspiration for this song

Clutch headlining and The Sword is an amazing show. One of the most memorable shows I've ever been to!
I love this band such a old school feel to it
Love this song! Love the message and imagery! Moved me in all the right ways!
May I suggest Purson or Jess and the Ancient Ones?
I had to play 1:52 to 2:12 about 13 times in a row. That's some dirty ass southern guitar and drum work there. It sounds like if Andy Williams quit Every Time I die and went to play with black stone cherry

as a wiccan, this soung not only is great music, but also plays into my faith. gotta love it.

Long live metal the way it should be \m/
Steven McKnight do u know wats fuked up? On itunes this is listed as hard rock, like same thing as that AC/DC bs

wow, pagan/wiccan hard rock without "gothic" overtones. Actually, it's awesome.

This is one of the few bands today who can bring a sense of oldschool metal but keep it modern I love this band
Should open for sabbath
Sabbath should open for them.

This video needs to be re-uploaded in 1080p. Is this really the only version of it on the internet? This was bad quality even in 2008.
It sounds like it's in mono.
Actually thats the point it mimics classic rock
A drummer who can sit behind a basic kit like that and look bored while busting it out like this is genius-level good.
