I think judo should incorporate knife defence and escapes from grabs as traditional ju jitsu doesn't have the resistance and randori of judo. They should do self defence but without strikes (to keep with the spirit of judo). I did both traditional ju jitsu and judo but prefer judo
People will always say "running away" is the best technique. If it was, and if we always had the option of running away we would train cross and field instead of self defense. You can't always run away. Plus disarms are great for supplemental and additional training.
me personality I take classes in judo I and I find it to be much better than video rather it be on vhs DVD or RUclips it's always better to have a trained black belt showing one the right wY
I appreciate this video and I'm not being deliberately over critical but even If your a 5th Dan 9 times out of 10 you wouldn't get away with that, You have to stop him getting that close with a knife. You need to disable his arm before he gets to you making him drop the knife and there's a way to do that that isn't taught in martial art circles. Even more unrealistic is the way some instructors teach how to take firearms off assailants you can get seriously injured grabbing a gun or rifle and is only the stuff of Hollywood.
@@SereneJudo I was in the US Marines. The last technique in this video is what they taught us to do, except to rotate the knife into their chest (lethal takedown). The non lethal take down was to step to the left or hand the knife is in, grab their hand with both hands, and to twist then to sweep their legs and drop ontop of them. I personally do not like either technique in the civi world. In wartime combat, we are armed with main arms, side arms, grenades and Last resort bayonet. In the civi world, I mostly am unarmed except at night, so neither technique is great, but the trick they taught us in the Marines is to identify that you are in a combatant situation and immediately take charge without hesitation to any consequences. In a life and death situation, you might have to get real nasty and ugly, if a crotch presents itself, do not hesitate to tear it , eat it, or both. If it's a group of attackers which is usually the case in my area, my main goal would be to get the knife out of the attackers hands as fast as possible then slit his throat, get some blood shooting on his buddies might just end the fight. No real win win situation in a knife fight if your unarmed, either way it goes down, it's going to be a bad day for everyone. Best thing to do is carry a firearm if possible, even then your still at a disadvantage against a knife attack at point blank. You could get stabbed multiple times before you could draw. I pray I don't ever get into a murky situation like that and hope nobody else does either. Best regards
Correct. This sort of fanciful rubbish is what gets people killed defending against an edge. There's literally no control of the assailant or the threat arm, no immobilization, all reliant on fine motor skills and hoping that your grip doesn't fail when you grab the knife hand. I've been training in the Kalah System for several years and we pressure test it under stress and fatigue using gross motor skills then we compare it to rubbish like this and I can absolutely guarantee, the sort of thing shown in this video does not work. Bullshido indeed.
Quality instruction, Thankyou

Yes, especially in an enclosed space. In a lift/elevator, for instance.
I feel like I'm being trained by Soap Mactavish
Curious why more do not watch these techniques? We practise most of these ...........
